When your blades won't spinning on idle, you have a clutch issue. Most common is rust causing the clutch to stay seated in the clutch drum, and not allowing the clutch to retract or release. The blades should stop when idle. If they don't, follow this procedure.

Another reason for a curved cut is sharpening the chain too much on one side. To fox the issue, sharpen more on the side that is in the direction of the curve. This issue can happen with hand sharpening the chain with a file.

You want to be careful running your finger down the bar like that. If the edge is burred, you can easily cut your finger.

I found a trick that seems to help with this approach: Digging the dirt, rocks and the like is a lot of work and is tedious. What I tried is a really good power washer, 4,000 psi and 4.2 GPM. I used it to blast as much of the dirt and related stuff that ruins chains. Then I let it dry for a couple of days. After that I was able to cut the stump low enough so that my riding mower could go over it without issue. My chain lasted for 10 stumps, averaging 24" diameter. Without the power wash step, I had to sharpen the chain after a single stump. BTW, these were pine and fir trees.

before grinding your bar, look carefully at your chain. teeth may be softer on right side, they dull faster so it cut better to the left. it's a manufacturing defect. left and right teeth aren't hardened together, they are made on a different line. oven temperature, heating time, quenching bath temperature, Monday morning, Friday afternoon. ... slightly different adjustments = slightly different hardness. easier to see on a full chisel chain. compare how dull is the corner from left to right.

Are there real world figures for how low each pump lasts? I'm having my pump replaced next month. Don't know the brand but it is believed to be 1/2 horse and 105 deep. It is 45 years old and still working. Since I'm over 70, I'm looking for a pump that will work for 25 years but also not break the S.S. bank!

My crimson sentry trunk is 4ft tall, about 1.5cm thick and is lightly twisty and bent in bits. The trunk itself should hopefully just thicken up and straighten as it widens. It has a grafted top that is slightly to the side so I have it positioned for the wind to be pushing it back slightly. Just hoping it sorts itself out 😅
