My 40 lb. Broad Breasted White turkey hen has adopted the newly introduced Bronze poults. I find this fascinating, simply because the Broad Breasted turkeys are too big to reproduce naturally, this one doesn’t even lay eggs, yet the maternal instinct is still there. Enjoy!

Chicken Dewormer Options: Natural Vs. Medicated
Thank you for your helpful video!!!
How is your chicken walking now? Just wondering because I have one that is having trouble (leg got caught in wire crate month ago). Thank you!
She’s fine. Yours might just be a sprain. I think if you isolate her for a couple weeks she may come around
I have 3 roosters they are brothers. I have had them since they hatched. Things got interesting when the hormones came in. Who's in charge has changed twice. There was lots of blood. Hoping now that they are over a year old things will be calming down. We did get build a bigger coop cuz they did not like sleeping near each other.
I think the key is having lots of hens and lots of space. Each rooster will take his ladies and go separate ways. They really think they’re something 😅
great video. where did you get your chicken food feeders?
Coopworx. I did a review on them if you’d like to watch. I really like them!
Thanks for the info. Love your videos. Have a great day.
Glad you enjoyed!
Houdans also have 5 toes.
This is true!
When you are introducing a new roo, how long do you recommend keeping everyone separated before letting them mingle?
Assuming you don’t already have a roo, I just toss him in and watch the show. It’s quite comical watching him dance around and trying to impress the ladies 😅
Can't you get another turkey so he will have a friend to hang with???😢
It’s a girl turkey. She has turkey friends but they’re younger. I think it will all balance out?
That intro segment was really difficult to hear. Like; I have my volume turned up all the way and I still had to strain to try and make out what you were saying. I'm trying my best right now but some circomstances have made it so they don't have a safe place to wander around outside of their run. I'm going to try some of these out anyway though to try and make it as good for them as I can until things improve. My porch chickens like me a lot but my run chickens are kind of indifferent. They're more interested in if I have treats than they are in me. But I think it's because having to be in such a small area is stressful for them.
Chickens can do well in confinement. It’s very hard to befriend them. I didn’t have my microphone charged so I decided to wing it. I’ll try and produce louder videos!
@@pretendfarm Yeah that makes sense. Most of the porch chickens I raised from babies so I guess it's natural they like me more than the ones I got that are older. There's one on the porch named Cinnamon who varies between trying to peck me and wanting attention. She's great! That does explain the change in volume between the beginning and the next segment after that ahaha.
Too cute!!!❤
That turkey is in love with you 😂
She’s very clingy
I know Bucky's Happy 🐓❤️🐔🐓❤️
Dogs with wings. I got that term from you. She might be gearing up to give you some turkey eggs. With mine if I keep taking her eggs away she keeps laying and doesn't sit.
Do the commercial breeds lay?!
@@pretendfarm I don't know, but why not? Mine is not domestic.
Gonna be a tough thanksgiving
She’s buttering me up for a pardon 😀
And they make great sounds! :)
He's your buddy forever!!😊❤❤
That's too much. Precious turkey!😂❤
That was funny nothing like getting up on Saturday morning rubbing your turkey 🤣🤣🤣
I want to come in hang out with you Daddy 😘🐔😘
As a pretend farmer myself I have turkeys and chickens together on my property. Sofar never had a problem.
I had 1 turkey poult randomly die but I don’t blame the chickens
😂 love it
I have used chicken tractors and my last batch of birds is in the tractor now. I'm done. They are labor intensive and not as humane as a coop.
I fully agree! Been there, done that!
They say it causes cancer on the bag I got, do you wear a mask or something? What are your thoughts?
I do wear a mask. You wouldn’t want to breath in much lime or DE. Both can cause respiratory irritation. Typically I’m using it outside and the wind is blowing so it just kinda carries it away from me.
@@pretendfarm Thank you for your quick reply : ) I know you are busy and I appreciate it
All I have is one rooster pet and I started him with medicated chick starter, but now he's 4 months old and they're telling me I have to switch to scratch feed? I don't have any more chickens it's just one little rooster.
Thanks for the great reviews. Is the water silo insulated at all? Right now I'm using a Britetap waterer that connects to a 5 gallon water cooler. The water stays nice and cool for the chickens, but it's limited to two nipples. It would be nice to give more of the girls an option to drink at the same time.
It’s pretty thick plastic but I wouldn’t call it insulated. One neat feature is you can purchase a float Valve that hooks to a hose and continuously replenishes the water as they drink it. That’d probably make for pretty cool water through the day
@@pretendfarm Thanks for the reply! I just ordered the 40 lb feed silo, but I think I'm going to wait on the waterer for a bit to see how they do with the cooler for now.
@@jamesorr1200 you’ll love it. It’s a beautiful thing being able to pour the whole bag of feed in and walk away knowing they’re good for the rest of the week
My chickens in open world they could leave but I love 100% real free range
Thank you for the video, I really needed to see it because I’m experiencing the same thing with my chicken.
Best of luck!
Did you say those were ‘chick’ feeders? Maybe full sized chickens couldn’t get into them easily? I’d have liked to see the experiment with the feed just poured into two open trays
Okay... um... doesn't sound pleasurable for either the Rooster or the Hen. What drives the rooster to want to do this if there is no ... um... physical immediate reward? (Can I ask that on UA-cam?)
It’s kinda like how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop. The world may never know. I guess God made the rooster that way and he just does it…..kinda like going cock-a-doodle-doo every 15 minutes. He just does it 😂
@@pretendfarm Well, I have a very aggressive rooster I'm afraid of. And he acts like a horny teenage boy with unlimited females (hens), so perhaps it is like sex for him. Just wish he'd be nicer to me when I went in to get the eggs.
Buy at local feed store. Not the big box
Great tips. We’re in a horrible heat spell here in NJ. Thanks for the video. Stay cool.
I think almost everyone is in a horrible heat spell right now. I hate it!
Aw so cute❤
Cuteness almost as Cute as Bucky 🐓🥰🐇
But not quite
Cuteness, bunny 🐇🐰
DAWW yaaah! Bunny living the good life! Have ya’ll given them bananas yet? Think that explains the phrase “going bananas”perfectly. Try it if you haven’t. 😀
You’ve inspired it. I’m going to make it happen! Thanks for the suggestion!
I needed an excuse to buy a machete! Thank you! 😂
You can use them for everything! You’ll wonder how you ever managed without one 😂
Lol! I’m sure Jason Voorhees has a few he can give you. 🤣😂🤣
I got a chicken cam inside the coop, and they look hot at night, like panting and opening their wings. It's pretty shaded, and has 3 windows and vents on corrugated roof. It's mid-80s here on the high, I wonder if I should add a vent maybe with a fan across one of the windows. And just bolt a panel onto it for the colder time.
It certainly couldn’t hurt!
Very cute video
Thanks pretend farmer! We have 1 hen with a gimpy leg (seems like it’s dislocated at the hip maybe?). She’s not really been picked on but has been trying to act like she is okay even though she’s clearly struggling to walk, but it hasn’t gotten better in days. We’re inspired by your video and are trying the isolate-in-tote method on our screen porch. I have not had good luck healing chickens with various maladies but hoping for the best this time.
Sounds pretty promising. You got this!
We have Ayam Cemani chickens at home, so i guess they get even hotter in the sun
What happened to Colonel Sanders?
We rehomed him and midnight. They were starting to gang up on Bucky in his old age and we obviously had to ensure Bucky was living a stress free life.
It's super hot in Cali now too. Thanks for the tips on keeping chickens cool in the summer. I always enjoy and learn a lot from your vids. I enjoy your great sense of humor too lol. Keep up the good work.
Bucky 🐓🥰 get that drinky-drink on 🥰🐔🥰
Lol, love the hillbilly midriff in the beginning! All important points for sure. Thanks for sharing!
☺️ Thanks
I spray the ground with water. They like to dig and scratch in the damp soil and grass.
That would be like a sauna right now in the sun. I bet in a nice shady spot would be key!
How about a small kiddie pool! They could really cool off.😊
They don’t like water that much 😳
@@pretendfarm Same, they just really don't get kiddie pools etc. I just followed the chicken chick's advice to dunk your chicken up to the neck in a bucket of cool water in order to wet the feathers because they can't sweat. It worked for a few of them, my lavender orpingtons were less panty, and my roos also, who are all docile with people, but they all protested to some degree or another. I ended up injuring a hen's leg when she tried to fly up wildly and suddenly. So lesson learned. Do everything very carefully.
@@zg2803 you have some serious patience to do all that for your chickens!
Their average body temp 106
Great info. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for watching! Stay cool! 😎
