I bought this 1990 Volkswagen Camper t25 at auction for only £600, it was listed with the auction place apparently unable to open the doors to take photos of inside. So unconfirmed milage, interior or even whether it has an engine in it! Fortunately I think I've bought a bit of a winner! Sorry I had to cut the video short. My 3.6 litre 1989 XJS with Fuel Injection and obviously no carburettas gets 35 miles to the gallon. If yours has carburettas then you are doing well with anything over 12 miles to the gallon.

    Whoever started to do the van up found the engine problem and decided to get shut of it,it could be an easy fix but I doubt it I wouldn’t put money into it mileage too high even if you put an engine in the value is not great but I realise it’s content for your channel good luck

    My bad, you don't have the TH400 transmission, might want to check the kickdown assy though, that might be what's keeping it from getting out of first.

  • @magnoliav12
    @magnoliav12 4 дні тому

    You probably have to order the shift governor gear. There is a servo cover that you have to take off near the back of the transmission. Ebay sells that kit. It's sold as TH400 shift governor repair kit. Those plastic gears are notorious for going bad and it won't shift beyond 1st gear when that gets worn. The repair kit is cheap. The kit comes with a couple of nails for you to knock the roll pin out in order to replace the gear. Then you put the new gear in and use the other nail to pound the roll pin back in. I use a press, which works better than those nails, but if you don't have a press, that's the way you do it.

    By replacing the seals on your hoist outside it can make it dependable for years to come if that is all that is wrong with it.

    Great work. I've enjoyed watching you battle through the expected old Jag issues! Personally I would move it on and get another interesting bus in the garage as each time you get something else you are likely to pick up more subs as enthusiasts of that particular car get interested. Full on resto will take twice as long as you expect and costs will be bonkers. I love these cars by the way. Plus if it stays in the family you can still add XJ-S content from time to time ! Good luck whatever you decide to do & keep up the good work !

    Hi. Came across your channel by chance and decided to subscribe. I love watching these types of affordable restoration projects. Especially when it's one of my favourite jags. One question regarding the tools used. The scissor type lift looks very handy. Especially when you can fold it up and lean against the wall. Very space saving . Would you recommend it, and is there a proper name for it ? Might invest in one 👍👍👍👍

    Excellent, if it was mine I'd pile some local miles on, tidy it up without going too deep, and let your dad take it on the trip (maybe with a back-up car in mind just in case something goes awry at the 11th hour). Nothing wafts like an old Jaguar. I ran a S1 XJ12L in my early 20s (looked great parked outside the job centre at the time, early 1990s), wish I'd hung onto that one but space and other projects put paid to that idea. My XJ8 X308 has been something of a project too of late but it's getting there.

    How did he manage to get a MOT on that, with all that body/ suspension rust and brake line corrosion? In Victoria Australia to get a MOT (RWC) the car is photographed (all sections), documented and all this detail are sent off to a central government body.. Inspection costs from 500-1000 Aus dollars.
