    How do triops australiensis reproduce? Do they reproduce via parthenogenesis, hermaphroditism, or sexually? I can't seem to find any sources that can tell me one way or the other.

    • @TriassicParkTriops

      Heyo! My Triops Australiensis Green and Triops Australiensis Queensland are both hermaphrodite species. The Triops are basically always "female bodies" with eggs pouches and fertilize theirselves. No males are present and mating does therefore not occur. The eggs are always fertilized by the hermaphrodite "ladies" theirselves.

I want to grow some up and breed them too, I have sand from my lake I have treated and I use. It should be pretty for the tripos I have. I only know I have what is labeled ghost, fast reds, and giants. Idk they are for kids. Where does one get legitimate triops eggs.

    • @TriassicParkTriops
      @TriassicParkTriops 20 днів тому

      A proper setup will usually still "grant" a 3-4 months lifespan most of the time. They are temporary pool inhabitants in nature, and kinda simply made to last for a temporary pool rather than a long lasting pond or lake for example.

    • @TriassicParkTriops
      @TriassicParkTriops 3 місяці тому

      Heyhey, Yes we have to dry the eggs prior to Hatching. This is due to the lifestyle of Triops in the wild. Its Aquatic, but season based as they live in temporary rainpools. So basically yes, the full group dies out every year. But when the hole they lived in, fills up with rainwater again, they will hatch and continue the process again. This is how they survived for over 200 million years 🙏

    Ive had patients who coughed so hard that they broke their ribs, having seen it second hand I want to let you know that you went through something really difficult and that you're really strong! You said you ruptured your throat near your lungs - do you mean you had a hole in your esophagus, or that you had a "tracheotomy"? I know english isnt your second language, but I thought maybe I can help you find the English words to help explain it to people who ask again. Most medical words are pretty similar between languages because Greek, Latin, and German are used to make the new words, so if you were able to tell me what the medical things are called in your language, I could probably help you find the words in English. Im super happy youre doing well, you went through something super scary but you're really fortunate to have an attentive girlfriend and good access to doctors. I used to live in a really rural area far away from doctors and I had to drive an hour to get help for myself. Also, I love your shrimp! Fun fact, my friend's cat loves shrimp too - I had a tiny plush lobster (a small soft fridge magnet) and she kept stealing it and running away with it in her mouth, so I went to a pet store to find a similar toy for her. I found a toy shrimp the same size and the same red, and I got it for her and she is obsessed. She sleeps with it, meows at it, carries it around with her, and when I'm sad or sitting alone, she'll bring me her shrimp and set it down beside me. If she hasn't seen someone in a while, she'll put her toy shrimp in that person's usual chair. And she likes to watch little videos about shrimp! Your shrimp are very cool looking. Ive thought recently that if I ever got an aquarium again and had water pets, I would maybe try shrimp first. I haven't had any aquatic pets since I was about 10 - I had a pea puffer that I was very proud of, his tank was very pretty and he loved to interact with me, but our power went out in a bad storm and his tank suffered as a result, and he passed away. I was so heartbroken that I've been scared to ever have an aquarium again - but finding your videos has encouraged me to watch more videos by more people about all their little swimming friends, and it reminds me of why I loved my pea puffer to begin with, and why as a kid I always wanted a pet lobster! So if I ever get an aquarium, I'll definitely be considering shrimp or triops because of your enthusiasm! ☺️ Take care of yourself!

    I really like that youre getting back to the triops since they make you happy. I've spent the last two-ish years without my hobbies because of my own bad health problems *and* worrying about my own dad, so i empathize and really hope you can get the breaks and comfort you and your father need. I think triops can survive, species can bounce back from a lot. Like you said, they're ancient - there have been a lot of bad extinctions and environment changes on Earth, and hardy creatures like triops always survive. With people like you who love them, they stand an even better chance to survive! Amphibians are one of my favorite types of animals and many species are going extinct very quickly because of humans and a fungal infection. But I remind myself that amphibians are ancient and survived basically every extinction event. Its sad that theres only one species of giant salamander left, but it doesnt mean that in the future, there won't be more giant salamanders again! Amphibians used to live like crocodiles, so maybe that shape will come back again. Maybe in a million years, there will be a hundred new types of triops, big and small, with a bunch of shapes and ways of living. I hope you and your triops have many good days ❤

    I was happy to know that I can use just boiled rain water I have better access to! My triops (cancriformis) hatched, they are growing and zooming around, they make me happy :) I will use the thing you do for tap water for the main tank, I hope they will adapt well and not die. Also, I'm curious, why some eggs don't float but go to the bottom with sand? And how already hatched egg looks like?

    • @TriassicParkTriops
      @TriassicParkTriops 3 місяці тому

      The eggs have a sponge like construction. Dried = filled with air and will float. Wet = Filled with water and will start to sink. If they are floating, its usually dried eggs ready to be Hatching. If they eggs have sunken, the hatchling might stay inside for another year/drying period.

    Hi there, I talked to you not long ago on reddit. I was the first time owner with the 18 adults. Well, I also only have one survivor left. And noticed a spontaneous hatch as well. I caught them with a pipette and moved them into a smaller enclosure to make sure, that they will find food and that they don't get eaten by the big one. I have around 20 and they grow every day. I'm a very happy and lucky owner. Hope they will get big, so I can move them back into the tank again.

    Have you ever thought about installing the smallest filter for a nano aquarium, which would add water to the container and make a hole on the side of it in which you put a sponge, thus creating a flow and beautiful conditions as if they were in the water of a large aquarium. And for feeding live culture from jars with leaves. Look at Father Fish

      @nihilusdirus 3 місяці тому

      @@TriassicParkTriops could you put some sort of dense fabric or mesh over the sponge area to add an extra layer of protection for the eggs maybe? It would slow down the water flow a little, but it shouldn't slow it down entirely, and would be denser enough to not get sucked out, I hope. It depends on the mesh or fabric. I'm no aquarium expert but I know about making homemade water purifiers and respirators, so there are different materials that can make a layer to prevent things from getting to the sponge but would still help to filter.

    • @TriassicParkTriops
      @TriassicParkTriops 5 місяців тому

      100% True with Triops! The Hatching rate is around 1 out of 5 eggs. Theoretically the other 4 are saved for another season. If this mechanic wasnt included, the survivability of the species would have been different. If all the eggs would hatch, the pool would dry out too early, the whole colony would die out and produce no eggs nor offspring for the next season. The mechanic is thus, incredibly interesting!
