Tractor Side Hustle Considerations for Beginners
About four years ago, I did two other videos on this subject and figured I'd update with the knowledge I've gained over the last four years.

John Deere 425 445 455 54 Deck Rebuild (Part 1 of 3)
Переглядів 5732 місяці тому
Before you go any further in this video, please know Part 2 won't be up for awhile. I will update this part of this video once Part 2 is up. So if you're intention is just to disassemble the deck, watch the video, don't yet expect a re-assembly video just yet. This is a teardown of a 54" deck. It is likely similar to a teardown of a 48" deck or even 60" deck from the same tractor series which i...

Which New John Deere Lawn & Garden Tractor Should You Buy?

So, this is by no means a very detailed breakdown of the models available and their late model equivalents, but simply a very general overview sprinkled with my opinion. Install Overview of Johnson 12 Loader on John Deere 140
Переглядів 1,2 тис.5 місяців тому
This is actually NOT an install video, but rather an overview since I already had it installed. Pretty straightforward, if not easy. It functions much better as properly equipped here rather than using the on-board hydraulic couplers which was a bust. I do have another video when it was installed in that arrangement, if you care to see how NOT to do it.
Subcompact Tractors for Subcompact Jobs (John Deere 1023E 1025R)
Переглядів 8455 місяців тому
Lots of people ask how big an attachment they can fit on these tractors. I think that defeats the purpose of having a little tractor. These are the jobs they accel in, no bigger tractors could have pulled this job off and the 1 series is far better than a garden tractor with a loader, as the ergonomics of the 1 series is superior to garden tractors for "real tractor" work.

How to Replace John Deere 425 445 455 AWS Parts
Переглядів 2,2 тис.7 місяців тому
While I don't cover every joint in the system, I do cover most of the areas that would need replacement. The expense wasn't huge, save the hydraulic cylinder, that was a pretty penny for sure. Most of the job was relativel easy and straightforward. But that depends on just how stuck some of the parts are. Instead of posting part numbers, I think the best thing would be to just post this link, w...

I give a lot of credit to Kyle with Mrrbeef UA-cam channel, I often look at his videos before I do anything, but we sometimes approach things & demostrate procedures a little differently. You can do this job without removing the engine or transmission, but you must remove the driveshaft. John Deere Hood Material Comparison
Переглядів 1,2 тис.7 місяців тому
Okay to be fair, only one hood in the picture is a John Deere Lawn & Garden Tractor hood, as the plastic one is from a 1 series and the metal one is from a Craftsman hood. There were no metal hoods in John Deere L&G history that I am aware of, but people often say metal hoods are better, so we'll see how they work out. This is not a comprehensive overview, it's just a general video with the hoo...
How to Change the Fan Belt in a John Deere 322 (330,332) the Easy Way
Переглядів 1,7 тис.7 місяців тому
So, I figured I would make a video since there was nothing online on replacing it this way. Meaning all the official directions require taking the radiator out, which I think is an incredibly unnecessary step. Being careful, you can easily with some minor effort, remove the belt through the fan and not damage it. I have done it several times without issue.
Fuel Filter Fix John Deere 1023E 1025R

John Deere 455 Project Part 2: We've Come a Long Way

Well, the first video on this was right around two months ago and probably at least that long after I got the machine. If I did this for a living, my family would starve. Watch the 455 Part 1 video to see where we started. We have come a long way, but there is still lots of ground to cover in fixng these issues, so there will likely be a third video...hopefully final on this series so to speak....

So, I got both of these a while back, many years, but they were never put together until now. Both had run at some point in time on my possession, just not together. Hi Great idea. I wonder of you could use both springs and rubber bumpers. Do you have any experience with 1023e rear lift arm issues? Mind raise random heights. Lower fine? Thnx. David

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere 2 дні тому

      Raise random heights, like something beyond your control? I mean they should raise at a rate and speed you like and lower the same. Of course the lowering is simple gravity as it drops, there is not any hydraulic force to push it down, unlike going up. Also, you can adjust the speed at which it raises and lower by adjusting th eknob under the seat. If any of this is stuff you already know, I apologize. Thanks for watching.

    • @davidmosscrop2374
      @davidmosscrop2374 2 дні тому

      @@FloridaDeere what I mean by random heights is one time using the lever I raise it and it suddenly stops raising at 2”, after lowering, next raises 1”, repeat 6”, repeat May be complete lift. Once the lifting stops the only way to get more lift (maybe) is to lower all the way and try lifting again. I did notice today that over a period of a few hours my loader lowered itself? Thanks for your assistance with this. Cheers

    Hey!! Nice to hear from someone who lived in Maine. My home is about 10 miles from Maine. I was just talking with my wife about our first date at the Presqu’île Maine fair 46 years ago. This state is part of our culture. And….manny in Canada are Red Sox Nations Citizens.

      Yeah, sadly, we didn't live up there longer, those were some of my formative years, age 4-10, then to Florida as a Navy brat, been here ever since and truthfully I belong in the mountains of North Carolina or Virgina, probably only place I could move my Florida-born wife if I can even get her there, maybe we need to live in different states. 🤣 She can stay here and melt and I can enjoy a state with real seasons.😎

    Fringing snow and ice and freezing rain and cold is hard on machines. I have a 2025 for snow a woodlot. I don’t do work for others except to help a buddy in a bind. I imagine heat and humidity is a challenge in Florida.

      @FloridaDeere 7 днів тому

      Yep my experience in Maine was an a kid, I'd assume that would be similar to Canada, but I was young enough to enjoy the snow and not have the "work it" so to speak. Our winters are nice, but honestly, I hate doing any work outside from May until November, it's terrible but in a diffferent way. I dislike being soaking wet, and if you stay outside any length of time, you'll go through several outfit changes to stay dry. Problem is, I love working outside.

    Up here in Canada, many with small tractors do snow removal. It was a challenge in the past for them to get paid in spring because customers would argue on various things or not pay at all. It’s different now. They give you a price for the job in the fall and expect $$ before the first snow.

    If you hit the pulley belt faces with a Nylon Abrasive Wheel (HF) on a drill, the rust comes off pretty easy. Otherwise, the rust will eat the first belt you run on it.

On the other hand, I have had several customers pay me more than I asked or we agreed to. I have heard of other stories where people have stick the business owner with the bill. The frame on the 325 is ALOT bigger than my GT 245... same K71 transmission but my has V twin 20hp Kawasaki K series..But yes...Even the 225,235,245 series are far superior to the typical POS at Lowes or home depot...Kawasaki engines are starting to pop up on some of the more expensive zero turn mowers at those places ...I actually had a Husqvarna with a 24 hp Kawasaki with a Hydrogear "fast" transmission...JUNK compared to these old John Deere mowers...Today that Husqvarna would cost you $4000 dollars...NO WAY...The John Deere with a smaller engine will handle high grass ALOT better due to a much wider mowing deck which would not even fit under a Husqvarna mower... Fixing the GT245 to sell with new trans belt pulleys and bearing throughout and currently in process of restoring a 455 diesel mower with a 60 inch deck that someone GAVE me...Also have a X710...Both take heavy duty to a another level...I've mowed over 300 acres with my x710 with no issues other than the gear box on the mower deck failing because someone did not put the lock pin back on the shaft...Still running the same mower belt...Finally put a set of blades on it a few years ago..The mower was USED when I got it with about 320 hours....serious stuff....Shaft drive to a K90 series trans with shaft driven mower deck...

      100% right the GT series had about a 62# frame while the GX series had a 90# frame and yes the 455 and X710 did take the heavy duty thing to a new level for sure. I, too, have had all three levels. The newest I've had so far is a X485, similar enough to the X7 series. Yeah Kawasaki engines do seemm to make themselves into most of the commercial or near-commercial grade equipment. Thanks for watching.

    I am the owner of the Baumalight stump grinder. It is powered by a J.D. 1025R. It works very well! It has given me no trouble or issues. I have recouped the cost of the unit easily in 3 years by grinding stumps for a fair price. I use a diamond blade on a 4" grinder to sharpen the teeth, that works great as well, no need to buy new teeth too soon, but they are available. Hint for use! Make sure the lower lift arms of tractor are very tight so the grinder can't swing side to side. Grease the bearings often! Thanks.

    Thank you for this video! Made the job quick & painless. I ended up taking the rear seat/ferring off & removed the gas tank to make filling the fluid easier & well as giving access to the in-line filter from above as well. Not necessary but only added a couple minutes to the job.

      Awesome, happy is was helpful, the job was painless but Deere makes buying those filters very painful.🤣 Thanks for watching.

    Transmissions!!. Big box trannies will not last if you do more than mow. (pulling loads on a trailer, pulling a heavy water filled lawn plugger etc.) Big box store tractors are ALL MTD crap including the cheap John Deere's. After decades of failed small lawn tractors, In 2018 I bought a used 2013 John Deere x534 with all wheel power steering (HIGHLY recommended btw, it's almost like a zero turn). Cost: $2,900.00 from a trusted John Deere dealer. It had under 300 hours. I gave it a complete tune-up, replaced the cracked hood with a new one, put in a new seat, changed all belts, filters and installed new blades. Oh yeah; I disabled the RIO switch - (The Reverse Implement Option (RIO) allows operator to mow while backing up- Disabling allows mowing in reverse without the RIO switch) (I don't want to hear about how this is unsafe) For the past 11 years It gets worked regularly on 4+ acres, mowing, hauling big loads of brush and rocks, and every fall pulling a heavy lawn plugger. It has run flawlessly all these years with only standard regular maintenance. Starts every time. For the first time in 50 years I'm in love with my lawn tractor! Folks, I'm here to tell you: These guys are right. Buy a good used commercial John Deere and spend your time working on your land instead of your tractor!!

    Impressive video! The naked tractor was a hit with me! Splendid way of explaining an older piece of equipment, probably built stronger than a new one. Older...just might be the new 🙂

      I know Steven, some of my videos are better (or worse) than others. Usually if I do a "how to", it's listed as a "how to", but not always, I apologize for the disappointment, I really do.

    The people who worship these things love machines more than they love getting things done. I have a diesel 430. You have to be stupid to buy one now. Essential parts have been discontinued, many parts that are still sold are extremely expensive, and it's going to get worse. My tractor is a pain to work on, and now that it's old, it breaks down frequently. If you can get a gardentractor repaired in a month, you're doing great. Think what will happen to your yard in a month. Get yourself a late-model Kubota diesel zero-turn. Tractors aren't for mowing.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere Місяць тому

      Yes in several ways I can't say you are wrong. Some of them are too expensive to own now, a 430 could be one of them. I had one myself and did sell it for that reason, but parts can be found and you have to be creative with your precurements for sure. Certainly a zero turn in ideal for mowing, but I'm too stubborn to do that, i still mow with my 1023E, 322 and 455 AWS. Thanks for watching.

      Certainly advantages to both, but the 1023E was thousands cheaper, based on them running serious deals on the 1 series and no deals on teh X7 series. Thanks for watching.

      Sort of, the 400 were 2wd and the 500 were 4wd, 65 was an air-cooled engine, 75 was liquid cooled and carb, 85 was EFI and 95 was diesel. they did not have a X565 though, just a X465, very rare tractor. Hope that helps if you were asking me. Thanks for watching.

    I have a couple Questions 1. Would this Tutorial work on my 1975 John Deere 300? And 2. Where did you get that Johnson 12 loader and Bucket?

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere Місяць тому

      The 140 and early 300 series were very similar, in fact, I had this same loader on a 316 I had if you check some of my really old videos. 2.), that's a bit harder, they are very hard to find because of age and people tend to keep them. But check Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Thanks for watching.

      Yes sort of if DOHC 32 valve is fancy right as opposed to pushrod, or is it just the 2000's and anyone with a pushrod is out of date🤣🤷‍♂. It's been a great engine from an otherwise marginal company. Thanks for watching.

    Not the tractors I thought this would be about. These are not the models I would spend on. It's the 425, 445, or 455 you want to buy that are 25 years old or more. Not these.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere Місяць тому

      These are good tractors too, and remember most 4X5 series tractors are 25+ years old too, but good examples can still be found. To me the 4X5 series still represents the best of what you can buy for the money. Thanks for watching.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere Місяць тому

      I have yet to own one myself, but if they are similar to the GT235, which is the model series they replaced, they should be a new and improved version of it with better plastics. Plus of course, the 4WS. Thanks for watching.

    Didn’t you forget the 317, same as 318 minus power steering

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere Місяць тому

      Yep, they are good ones as well, only so much time to overview the best of the heap. I'd say even though the 318 was the 317's replacement, they have quite a few differences beyond power steering to include, Full Pressure Lube engines, open rear frame and a few other minor details. The biggest one for sure is the open frame, which allowed a host of different attachments that the 317 series couldn't use. Both are solid tractors though, I have owned several of both. Thanks for watching.
