  • Just giving an update on this on-going project. This was the major work, now re-install and hopefully the wheels will be back soon. The cases are the same on each transmission. All the differences are in the axles.

So you are doing a complete restore? I have a 455 I got free that I an bringing back to life. Doing an engine service and trans fluid change by the end of this week and putting it to work. Still not sure if I'm going to back to original this winter or go gearhead rat rod with it (Gauges everywhere, oil press/temp, trans press/temp, engine temp, Maybe even egt) Min is pretty rough but the engine and trans sounds nice.

No, I really didn't intend to go this far. But the transmission was leaking something fierce. As I look over the steering, I wanted to update some of that as well, while I waited on the wheels. So far, I plan to re-install the transmission, install new ball joints tie rod ends from the middle of the tractor forward and replace the bearings and nut and spacer in the left hand side steering housing that holds some of the AWS linkage, as it was very wobbly. I also needed to order a new steering cylinder, which kind of sucks, so I'm spending way more than I intended, but it should be pretty tight and newish when it's all done. Still using the same tires, got tubes for the fronts. Got the rims back yesterday and installed the tires and tubes. Sanded a couple of rusty spots and hit it with rust treatment paint. The rear steering linkage will still be older, so I'm hoping it lasts for at least some time, as those steering tie rods aren't cheap. But they seem fine for now. Engine seems to run good adn deck is in good shape, so I'm hoping in a week or so to have it running and mowing. I have a 3 point hitch to install as well. I will use that for the Power Pak leaf collector I have. So certainly not total restore by any means, but a fair amount of mechancial stuff and I have tried to pull out what i could in terms of cosmetics. My next video on this tractor will be the steering, then a rough assembly video and maybe a final product video. And it will surely show up in more videos. Thanks for watching Jesse.
