Those boxer engines have SEVERAL VIRTUES - one of which is keeping centre of gravity relatively LOW so the bike handles more easily at low speeds........................ and the second virtue is that the engine valves are EASY TO ACCESS - which is NOT THE CASE with twin cylinder engines where much is hidden behind fairings and etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't like the V4 sound. When I was new to motorcycles, I didn't know about or really cared to learn what the differences were between the Flat Plane I4, Crossplane I4, or V4 engine layouts and thought it was a matter of design philosophy, and that all the different exhaust notes were due to exhaust systems. When I first heard the Crossplane I4 sound, I thought that was what the V4 sounded and thought it was really cool. It sounded unique and the lagging 270 firing crank caused this resonance between bass and higher pitched notes which made it sound fuller than the either Flatplane I4 with a Graves/Akra exhaust and the V4 with a longer, narrower exhaust. It shouldn't be a problem as its nice to have bikes with different characteristics and traits, but the thing is that in South East Asia where I'm from, single cylinder motorcycles are really common, and there's a lot of assholes who straight pipe their scooters and underbone motorcycles and cause all sorts of noise complaints, and they sound almost EXACTLY like a V4, and it really cheapens the experience for me, even if its from a premium brand like Ducati.

V4 doesn't have a perfect primary balance. Inline 4 with standard crankshaft has, because whenever two pistons are at TDC, the other two are always at BDC. In V4s in motorcycles each pair of pistons usually shares a crank pin, and the angle between cylinder banks is usually 90 degrees, which means whenever one of the pistons is at TDC, the other one in a pair is halfway through the stroke, and the other pin may be rotated relatively to this one by the arbitrary angle, so there is no way to generalize what's going on with the whole engine.

The reality is that after winning six in a row the power that be decided to handicap Kawasaki by reducing their rev limit by 1000 rpm below Ducati. How is this even a thing. Total farce in my mind. Yamaha and Honda also have rpm restrictions below Ducati although not by the degree. That would probably equate to 20 kph with equivalent gearing so the only way to make that up is with a change of gearing and a loss of acceleration. May the best bike win. Bullshit!

yeah Kawasaki makes really good engine tech the problem is they aren't innovating with the frame each year their bikes use the same exact frame between generations and they haven't adopted more extreme aero like bmw but bimota knows how to make a good frame and uses aero so that's where they come in

Lighter than a 4, smoother and higher revving than a twin, and something to make your bike stand out in the market. All my previous bikes were singles or twins, but I am now a very happy Triumph Tiger 660 owner. Easy to ride slowly in town, fun to ride fast on country roads. It gets through a hell of a lot of petrol, though, possibly because my monthly mileage has increased since I bought it!

There are several factors against Kawasaki in WSBK. 1 The engine is based on a design/engineering that goes back to 2004. 2 The current chassis is 90%+ based on the 2011 model. 3 WSBK implemented the so called "RPM Balancing" rule to achieve competitive fairness, albeit to penalize Jonathan Rea and KRT. 4 Kawasaki is the only brand on the grid not covered by a major automotive manufacture, a source of r&d funds. If I am not mistaken Toyota owns at least 5% of Yamaha.

    • @PieterJongenburger

I also remember when they couldn't sell bikes (due to reliability issues) and they ran crying to Ronald Reagon who put a HUGE tariff on all the import bikes over 699cc in the early 80's. It was basically: 'Our bikes are not reliable and not selling! Lets put a tarrif on all import bikes over 699cc and crush our competition!' Like a guy who wanted a GS1100 suzuki or GPz 1100 kawasaki or Honda CB1100 or Yamaha XS 1100 would suddenly buy a FXE 1340 super glide with a 67 hp twin pulling 621 pounds plus the rider lumbering to a 14.43 second quarter mile😅🤣(cycle world). That was such a wussy thing to do. I know the evolution engine(s) were good and saved them, but besides not liking twins, I hated them for Penalizing other companies because they couldn't build something reliable. For selling the 'tough guy' image....they acted pretty wimpy.
