Welcome to the KillerBee Channel. It features an accumulation of train and railroad pictures, slides, videos, movies and audios from a lifetime of railfanning and 41 years of being a railroader. I have lived and worked in the upper midwest my whole life so concentration is GTW, CNW, Milw Road, Soo Line, WC, CN, ELS, GBW and FOXY. I add to this with movies that I have been able to obtain and digitize, such as Clint Jones.

I enjoyed watching this railroad archeology video that you created on the history of rail lines in the Stiles-Stiles Junction-Oconto Junction, Wisconsin area. Your presentation gives us a clever idea of what railroad structures were in this area and what are currently at these locations. Please keep doing these historical videos, KillerBee! I look forward to your next video. (Posted on 1 February 2025 at 1727 CST.)
Another entertaining and informative video! Your attention to detail and research is greatly appreciated
So much history Glad you keep it alive
Thank you but could not have done it without those Facebook Group pages. I talked to the guy that runs them and he is a one man local history machine.
Very well done presentation. Extremely interesting! Thank you Killer Bee.
Glad you liked it - appreciate you commenting.
Former CNW/UP engineer here. Talk about old rail, dig this: I was stopped on the CSXT/BOCT @ Ash St. interlocking at the S&S Canal many years ago. I got off the engine and was kicking around looking at a long abandoned spur that ran down to some industry now gone and the rail was very light and "stubby". Upon closer examination here is what it said on the side of the rail: Carnegie Steel but I do not remember the year of manufacture, if the year was there at all. Carnegie was merged into U.S. Steel around 1902 I believe, if memory serves me. So that was some old rail laying there.
It is not unusual to occasionally find rail in old industry spurs that is from the late 1800's. And yes, occasionally you do still find Carnegie rail. Thanks for commenting. I always liked the llamas at Ash St at the oil place.
@@killerbee6310 I vaguely remember the llamas you mentioned! That was many years ago. Had to be. I don't remember ever seeing any but I seem to recall hearing about them. I retired in 2013. What were their purpose? Trimming the grass? ;-)
It was fun to watch thank you Killer Bee !
And fun to go make too. Thank you.
Another great video
Thank you - you sound like a repeat viewer - I appreciate your viewership.
great video
Thanks - it was a labor of love. Glad I was able to experience the end of the true Annie.
I volunteer for the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, MI. We currently have the C&W 175. Restoration in process.
Keep the 1225 in shape - when I was a MSU during 1977-1981 I would work on it.
LETS SEE IT MAKE A COMEBACK FROM ST.IGNACE UP TO COPPER HARBOR DOWN TO IRONWOOD AND BACK TO ST IGNACE.

Awesome video! I've been a CNW railfan and modeler for nearly 40 years, and I learned a lot from you! Thanks!
Cool - glad to hear. Hopefully you saw the video on CNW dispatcher train sheets too.
ruins it and makes it false. stop doing this bullshit.
Wow 😳 Get Recked.. !? The ultimate name for a Bar.. Anywhere 👍🍺😆🤣🤣
True, it is a little unique. That was the fun thing about making the video - I went in a lot of bars I probably would not have otherwise.
Ho-Lee-Fuk I've just found The Ultimate Train -Bar video 🤯😳😲🍻👍💥🍺🍻😁🍻😉
I have been to a good many of these bars just a couple of years ago.
Something quite magical seeing a Semaphore Operate….
Enjoyed that
Thank you for sharing.
I guess the trees are getting revenge by growing up between the rails.
I used to work for a pasta producer and we took all of the semolina (coarse red wheat flour) by railcar. It could be a contentious relationship with the railroad at times. When things weren’t running well at the plant we wouldn’t use all the flour sitting in the cars on our siding in time to avoid demurrage and that could really add up quickly. On the flip side the railroad didn’t seem to care much if they got cars to us on time or not. If they didn’t we would have to get flour trucked in from a local supplier, and that was a money-losing proposition. We were a captive customer and they took full advantage.
Thank you! We are of the same vintage, although I spent my summers along the RoW of the D&M. I am currently building an H.O. layout from Boat Yard to Cadillac. You photos and copies of paperwork are of great value.
Fun to see. I really enjoy the footage of the C&NW. My Grandpa was a laborer for the C&NW on the line from Green Bay to Manitowoc.
So I guess my next question is; what is the procedure to attract helpful investors to your upstart railroad? Everyone I've ever talked to wants a controlling percentage of the company and they want to see an ROI in 2 years or less. No business can start with those sort of expectations! There's grants available for railroads who are improving their infrastructure and promoting rail traffic as opposed to highway use, but in most cases, you have to already be there, with the increase of business on your hands. If you're starting out with a line that has been all but abandoned, and waiting for the half dozen customers that are left to give up and switch to trucking or move their operations closer to a Class 1 main line, then you're looking at a starting net in the red because you've got to get out there and fill in the washouts, replace ties, repair bridges and so on, ad nauseum. All the things that the Class 1 was counting on not having to do by running off their customers and sacking the line. Even if you've got a track that's good all the way between the customer and the class 1 connection, you still have to purchase the locomotive, have a contractor on hand when tracks need regular maintenance and pay your bills to keep the lights on. When you're opening a burger restaurant or computer store, you might be able to get enough capital to invest by taking out a mortgage on your house, but unless you own a $10M mansion unencumbered, you're not going to have enough to get started on a short line. So how do these guys do it? Dick Webb managed to do it with a couple trucks and a job briefing on his back porch in the mornings...
The couple short lines I am familiar with (think 5-10 miles, one or two engines) were started by an individual, or two or three like-minded friends, or a family. Not somebody that tried to go out and attract investors. They usually have jobs already and try to get the line going on the side. Grants are available from State DOT's or on a federal level, but those you have to apply for each year and being awarded one isn't guaranteed so it would be a bad business plan that counts on a grant. The first couple years will be lean and "touch and go" from week to week. It's not for the faint of heart.
The AI here has pretty good results but I wouldn't fully replace the original footage if I where you. Some small details may get misinterpreted by the AI. It also loses a bit of the nostalgic look and feel of the old 8mm film. So keep a copy of the original that you can always come back to. Maybe one more fun AI thing to experiment with is adding inbetween frames/making the framerate higher.
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I figure I'll only use AI if it makes a meaningful improvement and I'll label the video as being enhanced.
Really interesting footage, too bad the viewing was held at a daycare...
It was the hand I was dealt....
Will this Line ever be Re-Activated, or was it used only during Ore Mining…I almost bought a home in Arnold. These Tracks went across the Driveway…Great Video. Enjoy the History of the Railroads in the UP…
I seriously doubt it will be re-activated, but that is just my opinion. There is no traffic to justify reopening it.
One must recall that interpolation introduces artifacts, especially with non-linear methods and more so with AI. AI makes guesses and the detail it introduces is based on such a guess. If you use AI-upscaling software, I recommend you mention it in the description, to avoid causing confusion in case it introduces spurious details.
Definitely do plan on labeling a video as AI enhanced if it is. Thank you.
So Wonderful this has been Recorded on Film….
Yes, I was fortunate to have been able to borrow the original movies and get them digitized.
We miss our Railroad….
Cold and Dangerous Job holding on to that Last Car Ladder going into the Smelter…
We miss our Railroad!….
Loved the footage of the Knowlton Bridge crossing….
Ai will sometimes purposely throw in its obvious Ai details such as the Nose appearing taller , so the old footage is a timeless win for me
I imagine it will be like CD's replacing records...now we are seeing a nostalgic swing back to vinyl. Everybody will probably enhance their videos with AI, then the pendulum will swing back as people rediscover the retro look of original movies....
im picking up someones a fox valley and lake superior fan?
worked for them their first year - believe I can claim being their first retiree.
Well if it was me I would definitely make use of it. The old footage most of which can never be replicated is valuable especially if it was shot using good gear for the time. This tool simply adds value to it, as long as you keep an eye on how much "enhancing" is been done by the program, and keep it within realistic limits it will pay for itself many times over. Just the satisfaction alone of viewing footage that is now sharper, cleaner, clearer and steadier is priceless.
True. I see people "enhance" images by sharpening it over and over. And while they end up with a sharper image, it has an odd look to it that isn't quite realistic.
12:59 looks like near Ferryville. Possibly Rush Creek. Looks so different nowadays.
It's great to see these! Have lived in many of these towns along my life’s journey.
Well, I’ll be darned! Just as I’ve always heard-“There’s a bar on practically every corner in Wisconsin!” Great video, and thanks for letting me join you virtually!
I use AI on video and I am satisfied. It can actually save clips that are really poor otherwise. This is AI enhanced video DV tape. ua-cam.com/video/BkYjVqbBqyA/v-deo.html
I liked it ..thank you
With all the trees growing up there, looks like it'd be a good place to put a logging railroad some day, lol.
The AI modified version was noticeably sharper, and this was just on an iPhone 13 screen!
AI is another excuse for people to be lazy the comparison is negegatle
PEople using various AI technologies lazily doesn't mean that's all it is for, though.
Video starts at 2:02. Until then, it's some guy's nostrils talking a bunch.
From film to digital copy to AI enhancement to upload to UA-cam to be compressed and streamed to my screen. The ai looked better but this really isn’t the best way to demonstrate how much better. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
the ai one is taller *im glad it isnt as cursed as i thought it was going to be*
I personally prefer the original footage over the AI. AI upscaling makes everything look "muddy", even if the provided footage is great. Textures will look like a watercolor painting and look fake. When something has been upscaled using AI, it feels like it loses its soul. That's just my 2 cents though. Mileage may vary.
Not bad for what it is. The expensive digitalization is better but for just general footage this is more than adequate IMO
On my IPad the AI enhanced images were markedly better.
