The Cog Railway used to be owned by the Boston & Maine railroad, it was spun off in their first bankruptcy in 1931. Dirt pile behind Waumbek is where coal tower used to be.
@@Christiane069The cylinders and equipment on the locomotive might seem small but like massive coal consumption a voracious appetite for grease. Lots is used. 🛢️
@@Christiane069 Very deep history indeed. Be sure and visit the Mount Washington Hotel back and South Veranda incredible views of Cog Railway and region. 🗻
It was a family vacation in 1966 August if I remember correctly and I do remember the noise of the steamer was much more pronounced what's the clattering from the Cog. It was also somewhat foggy at the top cold and windy and their gift store sure sold a lot of jackets and sweatshirts
That's cool that they're still using the steam engine. Is it coal fired? Pike's steamer is on static display, and they use diesel hydraulic power when I rode.
hank you foe this wonderful video of the Mount Washington Cog Railway! No wonder they need a Cog Railway with that 35% grade> (Posted 28 September 2024 at 2343 CDT.)
Mount Washington is actually green now it used to me mostly scarred and black from all the grass and forest fires started by the cinders from the coal fired trains. 🚂
Jeeze... 35% grade, no wonder it's a cog system!
Nice fall colors, nice little video. 👍🍂
Thank you - it was a perfect day weatherwise. And all people saw at the summit were clouds.

We had a beautiful morning trip but only went half way. The folks going to the top got into clouds.
I did not even know that this existed, but I guess that is why they call me Mr Kazoo! LOL.
That's OK. A lot of people don't know BO Tower existed. LOL

I believe it is indeed coal fired.
I rode it about 25 years ago. It is truly a unique experience. I remember it being rather deafening. Does steam still go all the way to the top?
At the moment steam just goes half way.

My pleasure - was kind a spur of the moment to make the video.
