Thank you digitizing this 60-year-old movie that Clint Jones, Jr. took in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! You are doing us who are watching this video in August 2024 and future railfans who will see this video a wonderful favor by preserving this movie. Please continue to digitize more of Clint Jones, Jr.'s movies that you come across. It is wonderful to see scenes, engines, and places that no longer exist. As a former C&NW employee I really like seeing those Fairbanks Morse units in operation (which were gone by the start of my employment with the North Western). Thanks for sharing! I once had a Chicago & North Western (CMStP&O), Fairbanks Morse H-16-66 builder's plate in nice shape. I sold it via an on-line auction years ago to an individual who had the exact same plate from the opposite side of the locomotive.
Thanks so much for sharing these , these films are rare gems of days long gone . The ore trains bring back great memories of the Baby Trainmasters . The run bys at Trout Lake are awesome. Clint had a great eye for shooting.
Just think - these movies have sat around for 60 years! Glad to bring them to life. Wonder what other gems are lurking in peoples attics, basements, etc.
@@killerbee6310 I just came back downstate from Hancock - several people that knew Clint have been watching your posts of his videos! I wanted to get to Mid-Continent to see his things that were on exhibit - hopefully they will be displayed again.
I normally don't wake up early but when. I saw the notice I knew I wouldn't fall back asleep. Once again so many unique angles and even better just the overviews of facilities mines and towns that are long changed. Captured the M&HM which the family rode in 1965 and rekindled other memories of the LS&I including the odd trucks on their ore cars. I should have an oxygen tank to revive one's self after all those FM shots and for fresh air. The Sagola depot.with the 4 FMs powering that classical consist of Freight cars. To the UP with real ore in the cars and a mixed train I truly would ride a heartfelt thank you for putting it together and sharing
Had to make some tough decisions when enhancing the video - many scenes were dark and I lightened them up, but that increased the grainyness. In the end, I don't think anyone cares - the images are so great....
One of those CNW Baby Train Masters is now on display in Nelson, BC, disguised as a Canadian Pacific Train Master. Though it's been 'tagged' it's still nice to see it.
Maybe we can get that x-CNW BABY TRAIN MASTER back to Wisconsin and the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay Wisconsin to be repainted in the 400 colors of Green and Gold and just like the Green Bay Packers Football team in the N.F.L.!! GO PACK GO❤🎉😅😊😮!!!!! O.K.!! SAT. AUG. 17, 2024A.D.!!
In the pan shot of the Homer-Wauseca Mine, the shafthouse in the background is the Sherwood Mine which was the last underground mine on the Menominee Range. It closed in 1979 and was responsible for the C&NW eventually abandoning the Iron Mountain-Watersmeet line.
At 6:50 the Lsi steamer 23 on the Marquette and Huron Mountain tourist line was initially supposed to je part of a much larger tpurist complex withv a ski resort and the trains to run as shuttle trains. But there are 11 LSI of 2-8-0 Consolidation 's saved; with engines 18 to 24 as the largest group of Sequentially numbered steamers in America 🇺🇸 ❤😂 and 18 later went to Laona Wisconsin for a proposed dinner yrain on the new N.B.N. Shortline from Wabeno north to Tipler but never running!! 18 was then shipped to GRAND CANYON for full conversion to oil 🛢 and was a guest star in 1989 in PBS TV SHINING TIME STATION with Thomas and Friends and x Beatle Ringo Starr in the 1 Hour CHRISTMAS 🎄 SPECIAL with 18 running in snow for the open znd close Theme song!! 18 then went to both Oregon And Colorado. Thence east to Colebrookdale in Pennsylvania for repairs and then running soon in either 2024A.D or '25?? Lsi 23 was sent to New York in 1985? for long term repairs by volunteers. But itonically 3 of these Consolidation "s are very close in Wisconsin; 21 is being repaired in Augusta but where will it run?? 22 in restored nicely in North Freedom at the Mid continent rr mus. 24 has been at tje NRRM in GBW and Ashwaubenon since 1962 but retired since October 1972 after being used for the famous BOB HOPE Benefit Concert at the Arena, but sadly 24 sat outside in all weathers for 31 years and is very rusted but put inside the large red McCormick Pavillion since 2001 but 24 is still decrepit and covered with Heavy dust, and bird droppings!!!!! But someday we railfans in GB want to repair 24 for light and short Excursions l8ke in autumn colors, and Packer football with a short Dinner train; Well lets Hope and Pray that Someday it will be True!!!!! ❤😂! GOD ✝️ BLESS 🙌 AMERICA 🇺🇸 ❤ ♥ 🙏 ✝️!!! AMEN!!! Hi! Sat. Aug.17, 2024A.D.
Very cool look back at once was a busy UP rail network, now just a shadow of it's former self. I wonder if any of the ties in Sagola have been replaced since this video?😊
Possible. The ore jennies are not interchanged between railroads; they stay captive so they can continue in service beyond 50 years. As long as they roll and can hold product, they seem to stay in service. That said, CN is replacing some of the DMIR cars with new cars.
FRA regs require all interchange cars approaching 50 years old be rebuilt and safety inspected. Most RR's sell them off to leasers who do the reconditioning, then lease them back to the RRs.
Yes, music has been a conundrum for me. For a long time I wrestled with whether to have music or not. Some videos like this had a lot of dead space between narration. I actually did lower the volume of the music. And trying to pick out appropriate music is challenging. I am always interested in what people think, so greatly appreciate your comments. Several others have also said to drop the music. But...is having nothing better?....
THank you!
A really nice collection. A treasure trove of forgotten history. A lot of model railroaders are going to love this footage.
I agree. And there is more stuff yet to come !!

I have a few more postings of his movies to make. "All I need is time".

Guess he cornered the market - that's funny. And what are the chances of reuniting both plates?
@@killerbee6310 Indeed, he's one lucky and happy individual who was able to unite the two plates.

Love the SOO shot at Trout Lake! Thanks for sharing the footage.
Yep, glad to make it available. Sixty years in the closet was too much.

Wait until you see what else there is yet to come....
These are priceless memories. It’s taken in my neck of the woods. Sad to know there are no rails in the Iron River-Stambaugh area anymore 0:00 .

Thank you. What a joy to be able to see yesterday. I see the evidence left but, could only imagine what it was like until now.
It was all new to me. Might have to do an archaeology trip.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing.

Excellent - thank you for the info. I almost wish I could repost a revised video once I gather together comments like yours.
Historical gold KB!
More to come....
Fantastic movies! Thanks for sharing!
Ya, it would have been a shame to have kept them hidden away.
Wow. I never knew these lines are gone. Glad there are footage of this.
They didn't seem to get a lot of coverage (the Menominee Range ore trains) versus the trains that came out of the LS&I's territory.
Awesome stuff!
Thanks for the validation !!
Locomotive 19 is preserved in frisco Texas and re-roadnamed SL&SF "Frisco line" 19 since 1990
Good video Nice !
Thank you but I am just the middle man bring Clint's fine movies to life. But glad to.
Amazing time capsules
Indeed. Would love to have had audio !!

Hi! Sat. Aug.17, 2024A.D.
I always found it amazing all the LS&I steamers that were saved. Thanks for your insightful comments !!
They were still using RSD12's in summer of 1984!
Got their money out of them

Ties , what ties , this was typical Milwaukee Road track ; two rails amongst the weeds !! Boy , I miss the trains of the U.P.
Funny man...but a valid point....
Crazy Gilcrest had a coaling tower!
Ya...who knew ??
I was surprised to see that too.
What is the likelihood that any of these freight rail-cars are still in use today, some 60 years later? Thanks, just curious....
