I love your frostgrave content. It is really inspiring, and it really helped when I started playing with my son. Cheers!
@@golvmopp that’s awesome to hear! I’m glad you’re able to play the game with your son!👍
My girl Beldara, laying down the hailstorm! ❤ Brrrrrt!
@@DjigitDaniel she’s always finding herself standing fearless, taking and receiving fire on the battlefield. 💪
I can't believe I'm so late to the party! Love your videos and I love this series. Beldara is my crush on this team: every time she goes in I imagine Cara Dune from Mandolorian hip firing a Smartgun from Aliens. 😂 Brrrrrrt!
People seem to really like Beldara - I've had more comments about her than any of the other characters. She has been a beast on the battlefield so far. I hadn't planned for her to be a Cara Dune type character, but that's what I thought too after her first battle!😄 I have her LEGO figure in my collection, but in case you were wondering, I'm using the Valkyrie (Marvel) figure with a random white/gray wig instead of her default mohawk/ponytail. Oh, and I added some shoulder armor to make her look even tougher.
Out of our five players, I’m the first and so far only one of us to grab a captain, and it’s made a huge difference. I’d gotten lucky with some early magic item finds that wouldn’t have benefited my sneaky back-line Illusionist, and now I’ve got a speedy threat using them who I can charge right at their apprentice from the get go.
Nice! I'm glad to hear you've had good results with with yours.
Wall is too good. And boring
Love the channel mate. Where did you get those solid grey box buildings?
IKEA - the tops come off and they're designed to serve as storage for LEGO bricks. They're normally white but I spray painted mine to look more rustic.
Cool break down
@@bluefyr22 thank you!
Starting my adventure vith 5 Parsecs and I find Your videos of great value. You're doing an amazing job!
Thank you! Enjoy your adventures!
2:45 LOL This is exactly what happened to my opponent when he brought this lineup against me to the table. Only one thug escaped with his life and a measly treasure.
😂Sometimes the best strategies on paper don't work out in the Frozen City!
I Apologise for the misread and my Typography Sir! I am looking to get a witch , which! (hahaha!-Sorry!), uses a Pack of wolves to act like a kinda-stike team or the wizard while I cast Curse all-over the place! How bigga-Pack can I get?
For actual Wolves you can only have two - one for each spellcaster using the Animal Companion spell - and they take up two of the Warband's eight soldier slots. If you get a Kennel, one of the Wolves can use that slot instead of a normal solider slot - but you're still limited to two of them. You could hire Warhounds to fill some of your other slots...but they aren't that great in my opinion so I wouldn't recommend that. I would be interesting to try out the two Wolf strike team - especially taking advantage of the Kennel so they don't take the spot of a normal soldier. I'd be curious to know how it works for you if you go that route.
This could offer some cool options for a new Warband, and I can see more than a few similarities between this and the Captain/First Mate dynamic in Stargrave. Group activations to deliver a mass melee charge can be deadly in that, and I can see it working in Frostgrave as well. Though I must say the % of loot paid out to them can likely get very high very quick!
I wish they were fleshed out a bit more - almost like Stargrave First Mate where you could essentially have an Apprentice or an equally powerful master of combat. Yeah, the % is brutal.
Captains? Bhah... touch paperwork. I enjoyed then video.
There’s definitely some added bookkeeping with them.
"That is why there is some debate of if captains are worth taking or not." Whoa whoa, I have more memories of my captains than wizards. I love my captains. Using a Gripping Beast Hearthguard model with a Dane axe, giving him heavy armour and bonuses for hitting and damaging (also cast spells boosting his armour and weapon). Never forget him doing a rear guard action as my wizard and aprentice retreated, when two other players decided to gang up on me. He stood on the top of the steps and destroyed the two other warbands single handedly, making them regret hunting my wizard instead of just grabbing the treasure and running. Every good warband needs a huscarl.
Sounds like some great memories with him! They’re definitely cool and offer some fun options.
Nice video. The random bolts from the towers is a fun idea. For many wargames/RPGs
Random bolts are definitely a fun thing on the battlefield.
Captains were always an odd one in my opinion. Useful for vampires since they can't get an apprentice, but Vampires weren't made until a long time after the Captains.
I’ve debated whether I would use a Captain for the “Apprentice” role with a Vampire, or just a normal Soldier. Mainly because the Captain’s special ability to Group Activate is wasted because the leader soldier gains that ability anyway.
You can become a Vampire? :o how
@@Lawni5 Frostgrave Blood Legacy. It let's you play or even start out as a vampire, but you lose the apprentice. So that is missing out on half of your spells per turn... but with the vampire domination/free unit trick you can get the captain for free using him as your apprentice replacement slot. Vampire also comes with a few unique vampire abilities that sort of act like spells that you can unlock... Blood Legacy also can let you play as the bit more expensive (also more to level up) half-giants which are not as balanced. Though like the 'Lich' class the game claims that you can't go with the major campaign arc method of trying to hit level 20 and become god tier... which doesn't seem to get played with most groups I have seen. So it's good enough for what it gives.
Great video as always, Alan!
Thanks Max!
Thanks for posting!
You’re welcome!
Love the 5 Parsecs content! You are a great world builder and story teller. And your character names are first rate! I struggle with coming up with good ones
Thanks, your words mean a lot! For names I always start with a a first letter that no one else on the team starts with, then pick how many syllables to use, and just start mashing other consonants together, then choose some vowels to fill in the gaps. I find I gravitate toward the letters R, T, and K - so I try not to overuse those and I chose a different ending sound or letter for each name. I find creating fantasy names easier than sci-fi…however there is more leeway when you have aliens involved because any sound could potentially work.
This is a fascinating way of determining names. Totally devoid of nonsense. As en engineer, this appeals to me (I imagine you are as well) because it gives me a framework to be creative. Thank you!
Crew in sick Bay/repair shop doesn't count when counting upkeep.
You are correct - right there on pg76! I remember reading that before, but was thinking I read it on a forum as a suggestion or house rule on a forum. Thanks for pointing it out!👍
Really enjoying this series and your channel. Thanks for all of the awesome content.
You are welcome! The content is fun to make!
I been wanting a Build that handles Soldiers. I was looking to use the Kennel, add another Wolf, Animal Companion for Wizzrd' and Appret,..,..(5 right?),...and hirea warband? What do you suggest Sir? Pack-Animal Trait, so al could be a Pack,..and a Roving-terror' Yeah?
Sorry, I’m not sure I fully understand your question. Are you wanting ways to have more than 10 figures in your Warband or curious about non-human Soldiers?
@@bricksblocksgaming8017 What I meant to write, wolves and dogs as I understand it, have the Pack Trait. Whats the best way to get a PACK of wolves on the board for a Witch build? Like a Killdozer lol sorry about the Confusion man!
Good battle. I enjoyed the set up, that was pretty cool. 3x3 is typical, but I feel your 4x2 gave it some real flavour. Something I need to start considering in my setups. For the first blood bonus, I'm not entirely sure what the rules say, but I might have been inclined to grant it if someone runs away or is knocked out due to stun markers. Its like a finishing blow to a beaten up enemy. Danik's letter could be from an old contact, someone he's known on a previous job who was like a mentor to him. Nomads and drifters sometimes group up for protection, perhaps one of these is reaching out to Danik for some sort of help. Bug Hunt/Freelancer's Handbook does have some tables for Expanded Connections which could also prompt some ideas for future cases (I think I recall you saying you had an idea for the letter in the video?). Either way, looking forward to that unfolding. Stay cool, and enjoy the shore leave!
the 4'x2' was fun to try - especially with the enemy Marksman (for what it's worth it turns out my board was actually 40"x20" - I forgot LEGO baseplates are 10 inch squares, not 1 foot squares). I felt almost like I cheated a few games back when there was an enemy sniper that I gunned down the first round. I usually play on 30"x30" and with almost all my guys having weapons with a 24" range, everything is in range really quickly. So it was nice to give the enemy figure a chance. With the "Casualty" definition, I'm probably going to equate "Knocked Out" as being the same for XP going forward, as they work the same way mechanically for enemies, and I'm sure the crewmate that caused the first enemy to die or run-off would gain equal amounts of high-fives and praises back at the ship. The Rules-Lawyer in me has trouble not analyzing the wording.😂 Thanks for the suggestion about Danik's letter! I haven't checked out Bug Hunt yet...but I need to.👍
I did used to be finicky with board sizes when I was a wee lad starting out, specifically with a certain futuristic grimdark game and how insistent some players of that could be with board sizes. These days I'm way more 'Yeah, that looks good' type. I play in 15mm, so I can use the sides of cardboard boxes and centimeters and it works out fine. As long as it feels good to play, either/or for table size works. Bug Hunt is a fun compendium, lots of cool stuff and new scenarios in it you might really enjoy. It's all the info from the smaller expansions plus exclusive Bug Hunt rules, so unless you wanted it all the smaller ones are good for easier entry into 5P expansion play. I would love to see your crew play a Salvage Mission in Lego built derelict corridors and tight spaces. Especially after that junk yard mission you did. That terrain setup was beautiful.
Now lets see not if they can beat the last mission... But defeat the debt on their ship.
😂The true nemesis of any crew!
Loving the story development the dice is creating
The game system is great for creating its own story as the campaign progresses - I’m really enjoying it!
Nice
Thanks!
Great session!
Thanks man!
Heyo
Hi!
I am currently preparing for my first game of Frostgrave with bricks - could you give some advice on building / setting up the terrain and also your thought process behind that? Would help a lot - thanks!
That's awesome you're going to be playing with bricks! The official position on terrain in Frostgrave is it's designed to have a LOT of it. Basically when you feel like the board is full...add more. The reason for that is to limit Line of Sight so Archers and attack spells don't dominate the game, and it forces you to split up your team in order to reach the Treasures, rather than having a horde marching from one Treasure to the next. Limiting LoS also encourages use of elevated terrain - there's no reason to get the high ground if you can see everything from the low ground. As far as building...since the setting is "ruins", buildings can be disheveled and incomplete - missing roofs are actually nice because it helps with moving figures around. Having a good amount of scatter terrain and not just large structures is important - this adds Intervening Terrain to the open alleyways and helps to fill out the board to make it more visually appealing than just a table with 5 or so houses/ruins. If you have snowy stuff that's great, but MagmaGrave, JungleGrave, or whatever theme you have is fine.👍
@@bricksblocksgaming8017 thanks! And do you have any suggestions concerning bridges/walkways between terrain pieces (just connect everything with everything?) and just general „symmetry“ of the board (how important is it for fairness)? Any no go‘s?
@@MaxMustermann-ql2wm walkways connecting the elevated terrain is really important in my opinion - it takes a while to climb structures, but then the figure can get kind of cut off if the action shifts to a different part of the board - being able to move once you’ve spent the time climbing adds motivation to doing so (however most of my videos don’t have walkways mainly due to not having bricks that look great for that purpose). I also include ladders and rule that they can be climbed at normal instead of half speed (I don’t recall if that’s official or something I made up and have been playing with all along😄). I try to create some symmetry, with equal access to an easy high spot and similar terrain pieces each team has to get around to make it to the center.
Alan you take care of yourself and we will be here when you get back.
Thanks Philip! It’s great having supportive viewers!👍
That intro made me laugh out loud. Thank you 🤣
😂I had forgotten how I started the video and just went back and rewatched it - I made myself laugh out loud.😄
Enjoy the break & your family. Please keep the Frostgrave content coming -strategy videos, game scenarios, etc. TY!
Thank you! I'll make sure to have some Frostgrave content in the Summer Block - it might be the first and last videos of the Block again, so I can keep the 5 Parsecs battles together. I should be releasing more frequent Frostgrave content after my Parsecs campaign is complete.
I'm a new viewer, but I really like your videos. Better to take some time and make sure you remain enthusiastic about making them than stick to some arbitrary release schedule dictated by a faceless algorithm! Looking forward to the summer block.
It’s easy to get sucked into chasing the algorithm. I’m looking forward to doing the Blocks and keeping things more on my own schedule. Thanks for watching!
WOW!!!! That is INVOLVED!!!!! How are you suppose to remember all that??? At least you get 3 credits off the ship fixing you'll need to do LOL:)!!!1
😄There can be a lot to remember with the rules, but the Pre-Game, Battle, and Post-Game sections are laid out pretty well in the book in a step-by-step manner. As far as my rolls, I keep a spreadsheet open to essentially create a journal of everything that's going on (I enjoy spreadsheets, lists, and documenting things 😂). Unfortunately the credits can only go toward Ship Upgrades, not fixing damage to the ship...
No problem Big Guy!!!!! Sounds GREAT!!!!
Thanks for your encouragement and enthusiasm as always!
I've been loving the Five Parsecs videos. Enjoy your break and I look forward to seeing more of them this summer!
Will do, thanks for watching!
Totally understand the need for a break! I'll be sure to check back in July!
Thank you!
Enjoy the break! look forward to the Summer Block!
I’m looking forward to the Summer Block as well!
Especially enjoyed this one. The scenario was nice and creative and it really showed what Frostgrave can be. Gonna finish this playlist, then I wanna see Stargrave. Keen to see what the Sci-fi version can add to this!
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my videos! This battle was a pretty fun one to setup and play. Have fun with the Stargrave videos!
Now lets see if they can pull it all off.
They've been doing well so far...🤞
I"m so invested in this crew now. Can't wait to see Part 5. It was awesome that Beldara took down the cult leader, - she's a killing machine
That was very fitting how that turned out! That Rattle Gun she has is pretty deadly!
Loving the series so far. I typically see a few 5P games on YT, but not many make it past Ep3 or so; hoping we get many episodes out of ya :P I love the style of using Lego as well, really charming and really opens up a lot of the modular terrain building options. Bet you have a blast setting up the boards for your games sometimes. I am absolutely going to check out more of your videos! Quick rules point; A Non-combat action is just a Combat Action used for something that isn't combat; interacting with Interesting Locations and all that jazz can be done by giving up the Combat Action. Pg 40, Main rulebook, Actions. Also, Pg 89, Notable Sights, all you are required to do to pick stuff up is move into contact with them and forgo any other actions in that round.
Thanks! I appreciate all rules feedback! My confusion came because the item was placed from a Battle Event which states "non-Combat Action" which is different than the wording for Notable Sights. If I happen to roll that event again, I'll probably just treat it like a Notable Sight though for consistency. I'm glad you're enjoying the content, and I know what you mean about campaigns starting then fizzling out. I'll warn you that my campaign will be taking a planned break for a few weeks and I'll be releasing a video discussing the break and how my ongoing release schedule will work. But don't worry - I am 100% committed to playing through the full 20 Turns!👍
@@bricksblocksgaming8017 Aye, no worries, glad to help. Hope you enjoy the break, and given your back catalogue and the games you've played through, I ain't worried. Plenty of stuff to go through in the meantime. Currently, I'm loving your first major Frostgrave playthrough, the one with King Arthur and Co'. Stay cool
@@Axiie thanks for checking out the Frostgrave content as well! With adding a new game to my channel, I always wonder if people are tuning in just for one specific game or if they check out the other games as well.👍

@@rob9943 Awesome! Thats a great combo - hopefully you’re able to pull it off frequently! I usually think of aggro spells with an Orc, but I like your idea for Illusion - there’s a lot of room for chaos and randomness in that sphere that fit well with Orcs.👍
