the SECRET to easy color correction? Build better looks (DaVinci Resolve Color Grading)
This is one of the BIGGEST problems I see with filmmakers when they approach color (and many educators for that matter...). Anyone can make a single shot look good in Davinci Resolve. It's a powerful tool. But when we focus too hard on just individual shots and don't zoom out to think about the film as a whole, we do a massive disservice to the cinematography. I hope this video can help encourage all of us to think more holistically about color grading, and help us think more "horizontally" about our adjustments. This also helps get a better understanding of when we need to break out of our classic Resolve Color Management and experiment with other DRTs (Display Rendering Transforms) like JP2499 and OpenDRT by Jed Smith.

FINALLY an Anamorphic Style Edge Blur that WORKS in Davinci Resolve
Переглядів 16 тис.5 місяців тому
Davinci Resolve has yet to implement solid progressive edge blur and lens blur to add character to the ends of frames but there is a sneaky solution that I want to share with you. You can find this type of blurring commonly on vintage lenses as well as anamorphics. This is also sometimes referred to as Petzval field curvature which is commonly seen as a problematic element in lenses, but occasi...

Take a quick behind the scenes look at the stunning use of day for night color grading in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga! So often in filmmaking we try to avoid day for night work because of the potential downsides, but George Miller, Simon Duggan, and the creative team managed to beautifully use the tools at their disposal to create excellent results. I got a chance to see this film in IMAX and I hop...

Hello Barrett, I'm not getting any mail. Can you check please...!
Great video ! Can you tell me what monitor you are using as a reference monitor ? Or what do you recommend to buy now ?
thanks for the mail 🫶
love this niche knowledge, thanks, this is incredibly useful!
Beautiful insights Barrett, thank you
thanks that is great
Dear senpai, if you may, can you make a video on the grey + grey fix at 3:45? Would love to see how you tackle those mid greys and how you'd fix it. Keep the videos comin!
I use DaVinci Resolve Studio, when I select remote monitoring I get an OpenCL error. Maybe because I use a Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX Vapor-X AMD 24 GB GDDR6 GPU? Do you know of any other features that don't work without Nvidia GPU?
Amazing explanation and tutorial. Could you please speak just a little bit slower? Just a touch slower 😊
i copy everthing but it's not working, i already subscribe to get the powergrade but it's now reaching my email
Great video, please remember that the chips DCTL is Rec 709, so to illustrate your point, you needed to put a CST node after the chips DCTL taking it from REC 709 to DWG then the JP_2499 node or DWG-REC 709 CST Node. That's why the vectorscope was all over the place.I hope I am making sense? Your point still made perfect sense.
Best example of achieving Anamorphic in DaVinci Resolve. Thank you
This is great man. Exactly what I've been looking for.
Dune was shot on spherical (Dune part 2 was on anamorphic)
this is years old , but proper to test this is to run a demanding game which utilizes gpu to 100% and plug it off. Anywho, this is a good ups.
Wonder if/when APC will release a Back-UPS Pro for Gaming, 2200VA/1320W variant for the US market/region... the US only has the 1500VA/900W variant, will we see an upgrade/revision just as the other regions have?
quick and to the point, great video thank you.
It seems like a great feature, but it does not work on my numpad (MX Keys S for Mac). Is there a setting I need to tick in DaVinci?
Could you please share your vectorscopes qnd RGB Chips settings so we can have a similar representation of the chips? I'm not getting lines coming from the center like you are. Thanks
I believe for the vectorscope lines you need to set the RGB Chips as "Continuous Exposure" in the DCTL settings
Great 😮❤🔥
I love printer lights and also use an external num pad, but I changed the shortcuts for quarter printer lights. I never noticed the possibility to simply change the steps in the presets, that's clever! Thanks for this tip!
Hey such a good video, I been looking for this solution for a while! One question, cause I want his effect to work so bad. Copying your method with the 2nd input and a soft outside window, the effect looks great, but as soon as I press play resolve applies the tilt shit effect to the entire screen equally. Then I pause and the effect looks perfect again. Any idea what this is? It's almost like when it renders it actually falls apart and then unrendered cashe it looks perfect.
It sounds like a playback issue. Try rendering the clip on the deliver page and see if the export is correct. If the export is fine then you know it's just a playback issue
thank nobody has talked about before and you helped me
I shot a feature in anamorphic but had to later get some pickups for a couple establishing shots. And it wasn't feasible to spend $ on renting the anamorphic lenses again for these shots -- which were basically exteriors of a house and school. No one noticed in the edit that these 2 shots weren't anamorphic. But to me, it always stood out. So I've been looking for a solution to try and dial in an "anamorphic look" in post. I will definitely give this a try. Many thanks!!
that create a new project trick was really good. thank you!
Hey, I loved you video. It'd be great if you let us know how to mimic the look on our own using built-in tools of resolve, because I feel then it'd be great way of learning the entire curve of it and understanding it would give more flexibility to play with it
Brilliant lesson! My understanding of color correction has made a qualitative leap. I have not come across such a simple and clear explanation on the Internet. Huge thanks, like and subscribe!
This is an amazing tool. Thank you!
great work, really dig the simple explanation. could you provide us with the chart you used in this video thanks.
Thanks man... Needed this video.
Keep it up man! Seriously good info and well delivered! Subscribed.
Can we do this in premier pro? If yes then whats the effect called?
can you tell me the name of the touchpad and pencil you are using with ?
Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/3WxBvx_3H24/v-deo.html&si=xJ5oInU3pEieR_Jr
Such an important video to see BEFORE attempting to grade a feature!
Great to get an insight into the use of colour for storytelling and how its emotional impact is achieved practically- where is that tip jar?
Great explanation !
Such a valuable, concise, eye-opening video. This look is so organic and elegant. It gives my interview footage that extra little pop and intrigue. Thank you!
Hi, i have a question about your steps around adding contrast: Why do you lower the pivot when adding contrast, what does it do to the image and when should or shouldn't you do it? Amazing captivating content by the way!
Here's a video I did about pivot 👍🏻 ua-cam.com/video/wipSMdziq7E/v-deo.htmlsi=ABRiYBVRV2u4c8XH
You can add another node after and borrow that same mask and mix in a radial blur and that tends to give it a little bit of a helios swirly bokeh look. It's a bit of a dance between the nodes to find the right mix but it can be pretty cool
Genius find, dude. One thing I like to tinker with on the OG lens blur is to offset the RGB channels to create artifacting and CA on the fringes. Does this effect have that customization built in as well? Another thing you can do is push this through a depth Matt to add even more realism.
Dude this is insane! i love you
Great thanks- I really was looking for a tute on making the pallet cohesive and as an editor YES to the horizontal view 👍
Thanks so much, hope your channel grows. great content
Damn, i gotta drop a like, thank you mate, you're not only giving a huge piece of information for beginner, but you're also giving the tool for free. Keep the good work man !
Please direct me to a tutorial to set up entire project/color management to use node base so I can take advantage of various drt’s…. Thanks
Thanks for sharing this. Very informative! Question, if I use a FPE lut or any other lut thats making my contrast way too crunchy, do I balance the contrast on the clip level or group level prior to the FPE node?
A punch or a pinch?
one of the best video explenation about this argument, thx a lot
Man I LOVE THIS. It’s like the equivalent to After Effect’s Camera Lens Blur effect but way faster and more customizable. Definitely using this for my next video (which I shot on anamorphic), so THANK YOU!
Awesome!
Anyone else in here not Happy with the film vision LUT? How you get the green tint after applying it to the footage? Anyone managed to fix it?
