Dear senpai, if you may, can you make a video on the grey + grey fix at 3:45? Would love to see how you tackle those mid greys and how you'd fix it. Keep the videos comin!
Great video - You mentioned changing the grade "over the course of a scene". Is this process done manually/numerically, using some sort of key framing, or other?
There's a couple ways to do it, but in this case I set a start and end sat level, then adjusted the clips in between on a shot-by-shot basis. No keyframes if I recall correctly
With the midtone detail, did you audition the texture pop ofx at all? I found it to allow for much finer tuning, and less of that "fake hdr" photography look.
There are a number of tools that could serve the purpose, but we started with midtone detail and liked the results. Texture pop could work as well, but it was more complexity than needed
Hey Barrett, please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please bring that warm toned look tutorial you used in this video. I'm a beginner colorist and I'm grading a short film, and the client wants that warm tone looks. Please bring a tutorial fast. I'm talking about the warm look at 03:20 , 09:41 , 11:30 . mainly at 03:20 please help
I always struggle how to correct contrast in clip with tonal curve look in mind. Are there general rule of thumb how to correct / shotmatch contrast? Like spesific ire range?
Monitors are a tricky discussion and there's not a one size for all answer sadly. I'll put this idea on my list for future videos to chat through this decision making process 👍🏻
Hi Barret, I see that you work within the 'group post clip & timeline,' but one thing that makes me curious is whether you also make adjustments at the clip level? Because I've noticed that every time you toggle the exposure node in the group post clip, all the clips match well.
@@BarrettKaufman Can you give me an overview of what you do? Just to make sure I don't get lost. Do you also make corrections on exposure, contrast, and balancing at the clip level? And then, do you finally make adjustments to exposure, contrast, etc. again in the group post clip?
That’s a very useful knowledge, your work is such a great and subtle, mostly creators on youtube don’t talk in this depth. Would love to see a proper big breakdown from importing to delivery 🫡❣️
You are slowly becoming my favorite coloring channel on UA-cam .
I appreciate it! Thanks
Oh not slowly for sure, 2 videos and I'm in

Great Job! I like how you have preserved the beautiful skin tones in the daylight scenes :)
Thanks!
Man I’m so glad you made this ! The way you set up the grading for the whole film is simple. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
This is so insightful, Barrett! Excellent breakdown 🙌
Glad it was helpful!
Great to get an insight into the use of colour for storytelling and how its emotional impact is achieved practically- where is that tip jar?
beautiful insights, thank you B!
Love the BTS approach; so helpful to understand the GOAL of a scene or film and HOW THEY GOT THERE. Very helpful! Mike
Thanks Mike

I'm glad you like it! I'll keep this in mind for a future BTS video
Do you use curve for creating tonal contrast?
Do tonal contrast goes to timeline or clip adjustment?
As a general rule: linear contrast clip to clip, s-curve at a timeline or scene level
I always struggle how to correct contrast in clip with tonal curve look in mind. Are there general rule of thumb how to correct / shotmatch contrast? Like spesific ire range?

I definitely do plenty at the clip level, but the goal of this video was to look at the process from a more macro level

I don't have a video on it yet but that's a good idea 👍🏻
