Good'Nuff Gaming
United States
Приєднався 16 сер 2023
A channel for casual tabletop gamers and hobbyists. It's not perfect, but it's Good'Nuff.
If you play any games that involve miniatures and dice, you've come to the right place. Though most of the batreps on here are One Page Rules, you'll still find a little bit of everything; painting, playing, and pondering (at least about hobby stuff). I don't think I've met a miniatures game that I didn't like, and I learn about many of them watching UA-cam, so maybe I can pay it forward.
So stick around, browse the channel, and let me know what games you play, what models you paint and collect, and what you're favorite part about tabletop gaming is.

The dwarves from the firey mountains invade the frozen realms of the undead? Can fire melt the ice, or will freezing winds snuff out the flame. For this batrep we test out the Phased Battles ruleset from the Advanced Rulebook. It's a big departure from the usual One Page Rules ruleset, so I'm interested to see what everyone thinks of it. Feeling blue? Painting blue and fire on a Tzeentch Blue Horror
I am a 50+ year old gamer. Roleplaying always was more mixed males-females. Bordgames is also quite mixed (genders, age etc). Wargaming espcially, map/hex counter or historical minis, is the least varied group in my experience. My guess it is because we played when we were boys (making or own tin soliders etc) and just returned to the hobby later not associating it with women at all? Over here in the mid 1980s for few years ALL boys played such games. In my class in school all boys but two played on the fotball team and every single one played roleplaying games/boardgames/computer games/wargames after school. After the boom passed some of us just remained gamers and kept playing. I am in Sweden Europe where boardgaming plus roleplaying is very much a mixed thing these days. i was away from the scene many years though so the shift might have been gradual or 25 years ago. It is not a a 50/50 guys-girls hobby but you will not be the only female unless it is wargaming (where there typically is none) or an old friend group of used to be boys. People from IT and teaching are very overrepresentd among the most active gamers and non Swedes are overrepresented for sure. Video games are basically played by 100% of boys here while far from all (but many) girls plays them. Probably they learn online that it is a boys thing with competitive gaming and have the same idea on the tabletop? Intersting discussion this episode!
Etsy is a EU store. Only Games is not. T hat is my reason for buying the Japanese armies.
Interesting. I thought Only Games was European as well.
37:47 location do play a big factor in gaming diversity, as someone living in Houston TX our communities are all over, it's great.
True. Depending on where you live has a baring on who plays.
From my perspective as an Asian person who play tabletop war game, as Bree mentioned, it's a privilege (and I'm very grateful that I get to experience and play the amazing game of 3rd-5th Ed 40k). I was lucky to gotten into 40k when the game was growing fast and my local community is opened for everyone. Most Asian friends I know are into digital games since easier access and when I tried to introduce them into tabletop war game, they told me "I already collect Gundam kits, and they already came (almost) fully 'painted' (from different coloured sprues and stickers) as well as waaaay cheaper than a 40k kit" and proceed to give me the "bro, are you stupid" look. 🤣I don't know if Asian parents these days are any better or worse, but growing up, I used to see a lot of Asian parents gatekeeping their children hard from doing anything they don't "approve". So an expensive plastic kit that will make my child buy more expensive plastic kit is definitely something that will definitely gets unapproved. Another interesting thing I heard, so I successfully convinced a friend to play OPR with me. He's Chinese. So when he returned back to visit China, he went around to LGS and look up forums/etc to gauge the 40k community in China. What he found is that the majority of the Chinese players are pure competitive players. And they dont assemble and paint their models either. They pay someone else to do the "menial" tasks for them. And once that army isn't meta any more, they immediately will be "looking to trade/sell *insert dropping off meta army* for *insert new meta army*". The friend says, it's the traditional Asian mind set; if you get into a "competitive" game, your only option is try to win, losing is not an option, they dont play 40k as a hobby, they play it to potentially win tournament prizes in major tournaments and that's it. The friend also says, dont expect them to know ANY lore either. He was admiring a dude's Roboute Guilliman mini and said "Gulliman have become such a cooler Primarch" and the dude answered, "What's a 'Primarch'?" Suffice to say, most mainland China players are meta-chasers, they don't enjoy the hobby aspect of miniature gaming, they only enjoy the competitive aspect.
Interesting that the hard core competitive scene is the same in Asia as in the US. Thanks for your comments.
How many times do squdrons come out of the carruer... only the once ir each turn?
I think so. It's like a transport. Once out I don't know if they can go back in.
One thing I will say is this discussion was a great listen and is needed in the hobby space. However, we have to recognize our own biases during these conversations. Bree was more than willing to discuss her experiences and the feelings she got from them, Chris spent quite a bit of time trying to explain why these situations occurred. It doesn't really matter why someone is made to feel uncomfortable, our duty is to make our spaces comfortable for people who want to join our hobby. Making excuses for poor behavior does nothing to help people respect others who are entering the space, nor does it help newcomers stay in the hobby space if whenever they tell us something made them uncomfortable we give excuses for why it happened instead of taking an active approach to making the space more comfortable. Talk to your friend, figure out why they were rude, and help get them over whatever their hurdle is. We can make the space better, but it will take effort.
True, but people can feel things weren't intended, and some folks can be overly sensitive. Common decency in gaming is essential, but since everyone has feelings about things we can't decide that one person's overshadows another.
I'd really love to listen to these while I'm at work but I can find it on any podcatchers.
Maybe once I get more I'll see about putting them on Spotify or something.
ITs also the sad reality that a lot of 0th generation asians are still very abusive with their kids. Not allowed to do hobbies ... at all ... unless they look good on a resume.
I grew up in Canada. Lots of Asians there, and I saw that. Unless it was an instrument or something their parents weren't that into it, though my friend from S. Korea was able to play video games and other non-resume hobbies.
Greetings from Puerto Rico! Completely unrelated but has Anyone heard of a Table top war game called Marcher: empires at war? Need to know if its worth it for them minis.
Fraid I haven't, sorry.
@Good.Nuff.Gaming Good Nuff! Thanks for answering!.
Next discussion should be your wife after you tried what Bree said to do and see what happened. This will be like the Manhattan project of gaming.
I've tried getting her into it, and on a small scale it worked. She's willing to play blood bowl or something similar, but larger games she just wasn't into.
@ take a look at diceheads. Oh and you are doing better than me. When I talk blood bowl all she hears is the. Adult voice in Charlie Brown.
She had some really good insights. Great podcast.
I love all Good'Nuff Gaming videos
Comment for the algorithm.
Greatly appreciated.
Funnily enough, interested in the new physical minis starter, but also trying to save up for a 3D printer, so unsure if I'll actually buy the physical models, especially as I'm a tier 2 patreon member so have lots of STL's!!
It's a challenge. I could print all the minis, but I'm not great at printing and find I have to run several prints to get it right, so sometimes I'll pay to let someone else deal with the hassle.
@Good.Nuff.Gaming good thought, and considering that 😊
Regiments is probably as low because there’s options. Kings of War for a simpler game, TOW for GW Official Setting (which isn’t an awful game for what you’d be looking for), and T9A for the edgy non-GW option.
That's a good point. The only alternative for GF is 40k, and GF is the alternative for 40k.
Maybe HDF is receiving hype as well due to the big Guard release by GW?
Piggy back? Not a bad idea.
I really appreciate these videos. I find the hangouts and OPR youtube videos quite hard to watch and a little unstructured. Thanks for passing out the information to the community in a concise and interesting way. 👍
You're welcome. I also find that the 2 hr livestream can be a bit long, so I condense it so folks can get the main points in shorter time.
Those robots look badass! Great job 👍 Greetings from Puerto Rico!.
The main reason I’m invested in OPR is I watched the batrep that Dave from MWG and Brent from Goobertown Hobbies did and the Suarian Starhost Gators just captured my imagination so much.
I’m massively interested in physical minis boxes. I love a lot of the OPR sculpts but don’t have a resin printer (trying to use an FDM and getting there slowly). Battlebox is really interesting to me.
I have a friend who owns a plastic manufacturing business here in the UK and talked me through the manufacturing of plastic miniatures like GW. The moulds for injection moulding cost at least £10k a frame and the actual machines cost much more. This is a considerable investment for a business. There are other options but for small scale manufacturing 3D printing is by far the cheapest option. I could see OPR partnering with someone like Wargames Atlantic if physical minis become popular enough.
Yeah, even metal casting is vastly cheaper than injection moulded plastics.
@ Cyanocast is supposed to be a good middle ground, but the machinery is still expensive. Costly if you’re unsure of demand.
Greetings from Puerto Rico to everyone!.
I love GW minis but it was cheaper for me to buy a 3d printer and kit then to keep buying GW stuffs!!! And I love the 3d printing hobby! Now if I can just get people here in northern MN to try OPR!
I moved from Blood Angel's (2nd ed army) to Guard in OPR when GW killed off 1st born. It felt like time for a change. Been playing OPR for a couple of years now. The Emperor may protect, but the dice work for Tzeench!
I wonder what the numbers would be if they release Elven Jester STLs. If you look at the factions that show the most played they are either the ones OPR has released STLs for or are the most popular/easiest to get from 40k.
I wonder if the people who get in a ton of games are people playing solo. My favorite part about OPR is that I can manage matches against myself because the AoS community in my town is pretty sparse.
It has to be.
I believe most games are played at home so solo or 1-2 others.
Looks amazing 😍! I hope we get to see it on the tabletop soon! Greetings from Puerto Rico!
You ever wonder why we’re here?
Halro ad werhummer
I'm tempted to make up a skirmish team, question is, Red or Blue?
@@Good.Nuff.Gaming Light Red of course ;)
I like both formats but prefer the longer batreps. Maybe you can do one longer batrep every so mnay shorter ones.
That's what I was thinking, or doing this with the massive 10k point games.
1:01 No Seven reference with “what’s in the box”?! 😆 📦
"O mein gott, they posted a cute sketch for their game cafe and wrote a few kids bop short stories? Ist es over fur grimdarken???" Get real man
Ok, but what's with the Germish?
What a great idea.
It’s getting a little grimdorky
I’m so funny
I'd love to see a batrep for frostgrave or stargrave.
I've only played a couple demo games. Once I get a bit more familiar with it I'll do a batrep
this was a cool game. I liked the still cam personally. Great batrep. I'm just getting into mini wargaming, and it's nice to see better options than OPR skirmish games.
I'm finding that in terms of skirmish games I'm gravitating to other options, but come back to OPR for large games.
Great to see more RS being played! Did you guys use OPR models for the Dwarves?
The dwarves were a little bit of everything. Some GW, some 3D printed from various STL creators.
Need Dice rolls reactions, everyone does this style and it’s old school. I love your bat reps for seeing how the game actually plays etc!! Keep up the great work
Thanks for the input. Duly noted.
I like a bit of both, seeing some high point games with an overview of the game in a concise manner while also having lower point games with a more indepth battle report gives the best of both. The short form feels more like a narrative while the in-depth longer format feels more educational. The banter between you and the opponent is a bonus in both formats.
Cool. Thanks for the feedback.
personally I like the more detailed activation by activation, dice rolls and table talks. Most of the tabletop wargame fun comes from the banter and "live reaction" of your dice rolls, so taking a lot of that out loses a lot of the "table personalities". For example, I can imagine a lot of Josh's silly banters would be lost during the game just to shorten for turn summaries. I am not sure about other people, but I am more than happy to "watch" 2-3 hours video (passive watching, listen while making/painting minis, etc). But I understand that rendering loooong video can lead to error, so I would recommend making big battle rep into parts (ie Four 30-mins, Two 1 hours, etc) That's just my 2 cents. I personally enjoy more detailed batreps especially with table banter. Removing those make the video more "corporate" and soulless like what big companies James Werkchop would normally produce.
Part of it is production time. Filming, editing, and publishing a regular game can take 8-10 hours, while this summary version was half that. I won't switch totally, but maybe once in a while when I have a really big game or just need to get something out in a hurry.
Sounds good. Keep up the good work. 👍
Could have gone on 10 minutes more (20 min battle, and 10 min pregame is a bit short). Movement is fine to skip, but seeing dice being rolled in battle is a huge part of the fun for me
Thanks for the comments.
Of course, I love your OPR content, and only want it to improve! Thanks for posting good videos! :) @@Good.Nuff.Gaming
I prefer this style, the strategy followed is clearer and im a little tired of dice throwing. At least for Regiments reports.
Cool, thanks for the feedback.
I like the shorter format, 30-45 mins is usually my "sweet spot" for battle reports to keep my attention
