Reviewing the cheapest, best value apple carplay and android auto wireless adapter? ZHNN unboxing

There's many wireless adapters for Apple Carplay and Android Auto, but few of them work reliably or have enough adjustability in their settings to be recommended. This is one of them! The ZHNN unit is one of the cheapest units I've bought that allows for full startup delay customisation.
In this video I unbox the unit, show you how to enter the settings menu and adjust various options, then do an installation into two cars.
The 2023 MG4 comes with wired Apple Carplay and wired Android Auto. This unit was able to convert both to wireless, and work repeatedly time and time again without having to unplug and reinsert the wireless adapter.
Then I installed it in my 2004 Mercedes Benz CLK with an aftermarket JVC head unit. Again this has wired Apple Carplay and wired Android Auto, and I was able to convert it to a wireless setup.
Works great in both cases!

Many thanks for very good video, I have similar issue on my CLK 55 AMG! 👍👍👍
Nice fix ill do this tomorrow thanks mate👍
Se ha quedado increíble un saludo desde España !!!
Thanks. Is it ever useful when travelling?
Using the cig lighter, is the car powering the dashcam when off too or does it switch off some time after the car is off ?
It should have no power when the car is off, so the dashcam turns off
does it work on bmw f15 2014???
Unsure, haven't tested it on that exact model. However because it has a lot of adjustability in the settings, it's likely to work if your car has factory wired carplay/android auto
Never heard of ALIEXPRESS, they are cheaper but are they safe?
If they don't accept PayPal then I don't trust em....
Excellent video. Followed it to connect my new Carlinkit 5.0 to my MG4 and my iPhone for apple carplay. Easy to set up thanks to your clear step by step. The only issue I’ve had in the first 48 hrs is when the system on the MG goes black once CarPlay show as connected and then tries to talk to my phone.
Interesting problem - have you made sure your iphone has forgotten/removed any bluetooth connection to the MG?
Those are still the mk1 model. dont they sell the mk2 in australia ? They only sold the mk1 here (France, Europe) for 6 months. i got an essence 64 with the heat pump. Paid about 30K here. I have about 20,000km on it, over a year and a half. bought the same charger, and it charges at 2/2.2K so that has nore to do with your electricity system. The software has a lot of bugs. Did you notice no buttons on the steering wheel work when mirror cameras are on for example ? The phone app is kind of meh but it does the job. The latest software update for the car is supposed to have the planner integrated. I dont care about deprecation; I needed a car at that point, i got a lot of incentives (which disappeared now). a tesla 3 sure is better, but it costs 15k more. And i dont think it is worth 15k more. Pretty sure the MG4 has OTA for infotainment system. Maybe not the entry level. It has one competitor here, the BYD. the mg4 is better. BTW I noticed range got better with the latest imbedded software version (not the one with the planner, the previous one), if you have an old version, try it. Probably because it has a revised speed governor ( i use mine mostly on highways). TL;DR: car is good, but the software is pretty bad, and that includes "driving aids" unfortunately, esp. the lane assist that tried to throw me in a ditch a couple of times. That seems fixed on newer firmware though. stil, not something I expect from a car that is publicly sold.
Agreed - decent enough car, not good software, and no over the air updates suck.
@@bozugarage OTA dont matter when there arent updates ... and TBH i'd rather not have OTA when the software has such obvious bugs. I would not trust its safety level. Updates from USB stick is perfectly ok for me. But again, there arent updates to begin with
Wow - as of 28/11/2024 the discount (in Australia) has been increased to a massive $1400 off any new Tesla! Use my referral link ts.la/tim750065 to save on your Tesla order!
@bozugarage you had earlier said the Carlinkit 5.0 2air is the best for the MG4. Between that and the ZHNN, which would you recommend?
Both work, both have customisable settings (the important one being startup delay), this one is a little cheaper when using my discount code.
How about the power of car?
150hp in this version, 200hp on the 65 in sports mode. Good enough imho. Remember you can have that power at any time, instantly.
Entirely fine for city driving. Most EVs feel better/faster than their equivalent ICE cars. For example, this is a far far better choice than an entry level corolla, which is a slow FWD ICE car. However the corolla will have much better retained value than an MG4, especially in Australia where MG have trashed the price of their own products.
Love the MCM posters
Hi. After 4-5 days of working perfect. Now it took to the adapter more than 30-40 minutes to restart. While is trying to connect to my MG4 car. It reflects for on my multimedia screen became dark. Can you provide any useful idea in which I will solve my problem. Thanks David
30-40 minutes? Definitely doesn't sound right. I'd try doing a factory reset of the unit (login to the settings screen) and trying again, and if it happens submit for a warranty claim.
Hi. Thanks for your prompt reply. I have done it but it doesn’t work out. Will try to contact the service center team to get some information about it. Many thanks for your time. Have a great day ahead DC.
Thank you for demonstrating the Car unit the calling kit 5.0. I bought it from AliExpress after you demonstrated it. It worked perfectly. after buying 2 other adapters that didn't connect automatically upon starting my car which is the same as you have the MG4 - Also found to avoid the black screen. 😒 this adapter works perfectly. Thanks for sharing this excellent video clip.
Code worked for me. Thanks
don't work in my 2024 MG 4 and have try every thing, first setup is ok bur next time I get in the car it can't connect to bluetooth more than 10-20 sec and the CarPlay is in connect loop , and yes the startup delay is set to 20 sec, have tryst 30 sec but still connect loop, using iPhone 15 pro iOS 18.1
Have you disconnected and forgotten/erased the bluetooth connection from your phone to the MG? Also forget the car to phone bluetooth connection.
@@bozugarage yes to it all, think it maybe is a apple bluetooth connections problem, have try all I can think of, looking at alle UA-cam videos many time
@@sjuul45 Same setup, same issues. Very annoying. Will have to return it.
Personally i prefer mine without, the spoiler adds extra drag and lower miles /kwh
We were dead set on buying a 51 Excite demo, for about the same price as the new price dropped to a few weeks later. We wouldn’t have been too upset at the deal, even after the price drop, as the demo had almost no km on it anyway. Anyway, we instead bought a 2019 M3 Standard Range Plus with 69,000 km on the clock, from Tesla. We already have a 2021 M3 Long Range, bought new, so we knew what to expect. We did the deal within a couple of days, including trade-in and change-over price. The trade was our 2021 MG ZSEV. We didn’t go anywhere near a dealership. It was all done over the phone, and the Tesla app. I think for the same asking price, about $34,000, on the road, delivered to us, trade-in taken away on the return run, we got a way better car. It drives like a new one. It gets all the updates, of course. A couple of minor faults were fixed by Tesla under warranty. It’s the very earliest version to come to Australia, so it has the smallest battery fitted to an M3, 50 kWh. I’d imagine range is around that of the MG4 51 Excite. On a recent road trip, using the Tesla Supercharger network, the SR+ was range anxiety free. No problems at all. The Tesla Service Centre in Adelaide have been fantastic to deal with over the 3.5 years we’ve had our original M3. We’re stoked to be in the privileged position of having 2 Teslas. I’m sure we’d have been happy with the MG4. We were pretty keen, until our change of mind.
Great buy, the Tesla is a much more polished and well supported car than the MG4. We definitely prefer my model 3 for long distance driving over the MG4.
can you switch off the lane assist and auto breaking systems?
Sort of, but the car is pretty dumb and will re-enable all these "features" again the next time you get in the car.
what's the latency like ? the previous one ive tried in my leaf has had quite bad latency on things like google maps.
Seems OK to me, not laggy/delayed that I can detect.
The info in the zhnn site says it's not compatible with most Samsung phones, so I might play it safe and get the carlinkit one
What if the previously paired iPhone and Android phone both enter the car at the same time?
Ah... I haven't tested that yet! Guess it's a battle of who has the strongest bluetooth or something :)

I tested a MG4 about 5 months ago (Essence 64) and really liked it. But the $47k asking price was a too much, and 40k Excite price was not realistic. I remember thinking that the base model should be around $34k, and each model up should increase by $3-4k. So Essence model should around $40k, 77 Long Range around $44 and XPower around $48. Reality finally set in, and MG has responded to the market. As long as they stay around the current price point, I am planning to purchase one in the Feb to April timeframe.
Same issue for my MG4
Tim, the Xpeng AU announced it will cost AU$2,064 incl GST 5 years ($413 incl gst average per year) to service the G6 bEV, but their fine print says ~ costs in year 2 onwards could change, only first year servicing cost/price is guaranteed
It's wierd that the used price is so low,I rented one for 4 days,it's an awesome solid car
Do you have a dash cam recommendation for your MG4?
I recommend the Redtiger F7N 4K dashcam amzn.to/3PNHDgP or as an alternative Viofo A129 Plus Duo dashcam amzn.to/46DIQ0S I did a full MG4 dashcam installation video here ua-cam.com/video/egf-9Nj2EuU/v-deo.html
It's funny just that noise u made getting into the car was enough for me to say , not for me 🤣
How about 3 fridge ? Asking a got flooded a few times
Apparently fridges can draw a lot of current when they're first plugged in - I didn't try with the cable I had on loan.People say to plug just the first in, let it start up the compressor, then plug any other appliances in
Thank you for suggesting us a great solution.I was actually actively looking for it. Because when android auto is connected via wire, the phone charging is too slow. I just ordered one and i believe it will work find in my MG4 using android phone.

You didn't explain anything about the service interval and service costs for this car.
@Clayton4115 - they announced it just now (it on their AU website at the bottom). Xpeng AU announced it will cost AU$2,064 incl GST 5 years (which is $413 incl gst average per year) to service the G6 bEV, but their fine print says costs in year 2 onwards could change. only the first year servicing cost/price is guaranteed
@@Sensei_it_is very expensive for an electric car.
@@clayton4115 yep, so in NSW (approx for 5 years) it will cost ~ car AU$63,162 driveaway brand-new + $2,064 five-year servicing* (could increase) + $3,000 ctp greenslip 4-years + $2,500 nsw rego 4-years + $9,000 comprehensive insurance 5-years = AU$79,726 for five-years = $44 a day = $306 a week = AU$1,329 a month. "China State owned..." what could possibly go wrong...
Hey good video. Just one question about this product…. When you play music and when you change the songs is there are any lagging and delay? Im asking cuz Im using Ottocast right now and there is delay when switching songs, so is kind of annoying. Thanks for answering.
Good question! If I'm using the wireless connection and my android auto, using Spotify there is no lag or delay when changing songs, playlists or albums. It works as fast as a wired connection, certainly I haven't noticed anything slow about it.
@ I got you, thanks for your response! I will use with CarPlay (iOS) Hopefully will not be delay with iPhone as well.. So definitely I will try to use this product instead of my current one.
Cant wait and waiting for decent EV price, like 20k would be great with 7 yrs warranty and maybe last 10 yrs? Hahahha, only in China now that EV is kinda offordable for their average consumers. On the brightside of things, meaning EV is becoming mainstream and affordable.
Well, I think in the next 6 months you can pick up an MG4 51 with a few thousand kilometers, and the balance of the 10 year warranty for $25,000 or less. And in 12 months from now (so by the end of 2025), definitely used MG4 Excite 51s will be at the $20,000 mark with 9 years remaining on the warranty, which is a crazy low price. However just bear in mind there is an expensive servicing requirement on the MG4 to keep its warranty - I'll do a video about servicing costs, third party servicing and warranty later on.
It's like the mobile phone on wheels
Almost. Mobile phones at least get vital security software updates wirelessly, the MG4 doesn't :( With a lot of new EVs coming onto the market I highly recommend potential buyers to consider the importance of Over The Air Updates when buying a new EV - the MG4 does NOT have Over The Air updates.
I bought a non branded dongle. It distorts audio playing over spotify/yt whenever I’m navigating using Google Maps. It does that basically whenever additional audio/notif chaime comes in. Does Carlinkit have this same issue?
No distortion of audio, skipping or slowness using my wireless dongle. The very very cheap unbranded units aren't great (and I've tried three of those cheap ones before settling on the Carlinkit 5.0 which has been the best so far)
No regrets buying the Essence 64. Depreciation is only a worry if you change cars every couple of years. It makes much more sense to average it out over about 10 years. We have ignored the depreciation of our cars. The biggest value drop in value I have seen was VW and their diesel test cheating drop. Electric vehicles are going to get cheaper. We are now entering a new type of car market. Imagine buying a new computer and worrying about depreciation because prices are dropping.
I love what you did, but my car is different, I have a 2012 e350 convertible, it uses wire spring loaded cables about 12 inches long on each side. The thin wire cables break and then I am stuck with the problem. Is there a fix for this as well? I really wish I could just replace the cables. The trick is finding the path and feeding the cables through... I hope you can help. Thanks so much.
The only thing I can think of, is to use the broken cable as a guide, tie a replacement cable to it and use the broken cable to draw through the new cable. I had this problem on my 911 cabriolet, so I pulled a new wire through and used some rivets to secure it into place. Good luck with the fix, I'm a little surprised that a 2012 model had the cables break, they should be a lot more durable than that.
@@bozugarage Thanks so much again, and that was my original idea, problem is I can't find the upper end of the cables and they broke off pretty far upstream so to speak. And YES the cables are pathetically thin and the "wire" material is like thin hairs twisted together! I am gonna give it another try soon. First I have to get the rear window regulator replaced. Right now its not working right but it at least still keeps the window in place. I am told if I use it too much more eventually the window may go down and not come back up. I am having another regulator installed early next week and then I can start fiddling with the top in hopes I can get lucky. I had it looked at by a local guy who does these tops and he explained to me they used to actually sell the cables for replacement but not any more thus I'm likely looking at replacing the top. $2300! The top is in pretty good shape otherwise, but I just don't have that kind of money (fixed income). But worst case I have already figured out I can still use the top, I just have to manually feet in the water bags just before the the locking stage during the closing process. Thanks to the key fob remote feature I can stand outside while it closes and then stop it at the right point and feed the bags into place and then just continue closing til its locked down. Have a great weekend and thanks so much for responding!

In my fleet Landcruiser 70 series => appreciating Prado => stable Honda Jazz => appreciating MG4 remains to be seen, was ready to buy used for $34k before the awesome price cut. Brand new, $10k cheaper, and 10 yrs warranty
Toyotas hold their value incredibly well. The MG4 won't, especially with MG killing the resale market, retained value and brand value with their marketing "strategy".
Great guide, personally I’d get the roof wrapped black to match…
Did you feel the 80-100kp vibration on the xpower?
Not that I remember, I took the Xpower for a few blasts on the twisty roads, and the road quality wasn't great to start with. However the xpower vibration is a known issue.
@@bozugarage I don't think it would be noticable on backroads. Rather long freeway drives
MG4 loves being switched off and on again. Designed by the IT Crowd for sure 😂
Yeah it's basically a computer with some wheels to move it around. But unlike computers, this dumb car doesn't get updates remotely/over the air.
@@bozugarage yeah if only there was a car like that eh… 👀
When I was charging on the slow charger would charge like you at 60-70% now I have a home charger tend to go to 30-40%. Carlinkit also a brilliant addon.
Home chargers (6-7kW) far faster than a slow charger (1.3kW), however my wife barely does 300km a week so we don't have to charge it that often anyway.
