      That’s so funny as I was discussing with my wife seeing popular mechanics or other magazines with cars driving through these trees. Still seems crazy they have been there so long. You need to come and see these huge trees 🌴 Thanks David Brett

      To date on this trip we’ve ridden 1,112 miles. Just a tad under 1,800 km. Thanks for the prayers. We both appreciate them and the drives to date have been great. Lots of room given. People at stops are also great chatting and sharing information, food and even a few nights of accommodation have been offered Cheers and thanks

      No Stuart they did not but thanks for the info. It would have been great to ship them home but we sent a couple of Tee shirts and that was over $60 usd. I shudder to think how much a nice chunk of wood would cost 😳 That being said I still hope to be able to pick something up ( a nice new robust j tool rest for example) and slip that in on my carry on luggage

    • @STMwoodturning
      @STMwoodturning 5 днів тому

      @@TurningStarkers Yes Brett, I'm sure the shipping for even a small piece wood be well over $110-120 usd. I looked it into buying a camphor laurel bowl blank frrom a guy in Brisbane, Australia and it something like $136! Needless to say, I didn't buy it although I still hope to source some eventually.

I am so glad you could experience what we take for granted. Someday I would love to travel and see other countries and meet new people. Maybe my UA-cam ship will come in and make that possible.

    Hi Brett How nice to see how the glue share price has soared to new heights again! Great project,where do you get the ideas from let alone the time to turn such an involved piece? It turned out great with very interesting effects,well done and thanks for sharing. Purple Heart seems to have a very similar grain to Kwila ,very fortunate to come by those large offcuts I’ve only used offcuts of 150 x20 purple heart decking good for pen blanks or coasters. Interesting pattern created by the plywood & purple heart segments. Great project and I'm glad you persevered through the mishaps. 😁 On the catches... I made myself a bowl scraper from HSS purchased from Amazon. It works great for finishing out the bottoms of bowls as long as you hold the handle above center to create a negative rake .
