Wild Badger 52cc brush cutter / string trimmer review and demo
It is the start of summer and I am back at cleaning up weekend hide away. Today I will demonstrate and give my opinion on the Wild Badger 52cc string trimmer / brush cutter / weed whacker. You can form your own opinion if you think this is just another string trimmer with a brush blade, or if it is a legitimate brush cutter.

    Keep an eye on the dust collector housing nozzle. Mine is only 2 months old and has several cracks around it already. Poor design cutting the nozzle off at 45° instead of 90°, and probably could have used a more suitable plastic. This issue has been raised many times on various sites, but Makita have done nothing to address it. (As of 2024)

      Mine has had the same issue. As of now it still seems to work fine. Disappointing to say the least. Makita normally has very reliable products. Their quality seems to be going down over the last couple of years.

      I am going to sharpen my knives and cutter plates soon (for the first time). I have not had any reason to look for new parts at this time. Both of the plates and knives are stamped with a #22 which are sold on Amazon and through other suppliers. Just look up "meat grinder cutter plates and blades #22". I don't believe that the seller of the grinder offers replacement parts, as this grinder is made for multiple suppliers, and sold under different brand names.

      I believe that you are correct. They are likely just a distributer. There have been other comments stating that the same grinder has been available through other websites under another name. I can say that I have had no issues with mine, and have only seen one person on here say they weren't completely happy with it. I'm not affiliated with Costway. Wonderful video! Have you had any jams from the hard cartilage/white slippery chunks that are on the ends of the chicken drumsticks? Or the skin getting tied around the internal parts? If not, do you think it’s because you are using a coarser grinding plate? I have Boston Terriers and they don’t chew but swallow things whole and I worry about the bone fragments that come with using a coarser plate. I don’t want their esophagus or stomach getting cut up with bone fragments. I have an LEM #32 and use the finest plate and while the bone is sand-like when you feel with your fingers, the jams of all those white plastic-like parts of the drumstick are often so I have to disassemble everything which is a huge chore in a grinder with extremely heavy parts. Let me know your thoughts on this, and thank you

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving 4 місяці тому

      I have used both plates. Never had any type of jamb what so ever. As far as bone fragments, I have never had any that would concern me with either plate. After I grind the meat, I mix all my vegetables, eggs, etc. in a tub with my bare hands. I have never felt any shards, never cut my skin, and never felt anything to be concerned with. Our English bulldog is the same when eating, or as I call it, inhaling. She chews nothing. Now I can't tell you there would never be a fragment, but I have never seen or felt one after grinding about 600 - 800 lbs of meat. I hope this helps answer your question.

    • @btpuppy2
      @btpuppy2 3 місяці тому

      @@DevaultFamilyLiving Thanks! I ordered it but the fit and finish was really bad, but the main thing is that meat backed up into the area right in front of the motor, around the rivets, in areas I needed to use a toothpick in to try and get it out, there was no gasket anywhere to keep this from happening. I found it when I removed the chute assembly to clean it. Is there any gasket in yours? I made some videos showing what happened, but putting links in here will just be removed. I ground just 4 lbs of skinless chicken legs but the bone shards were too large and ended up grinding it three times to get it down to a coarse sandy size. When I opened to clean, all those white knobby things were stuck in there, it didn't affect things yet since I only did 4 lbs, but if I had gone any longer, it would have been a problem. My LEM #32 backed up too, but with the larger assembly it took a little longer. Let me know if yours has any kind of gasket to keep meat from backing up. Thanks!

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving 3 місяці тому

      @@btpuppy2 there is no gasket to my knowledge. I am sorry that you are having these issues. I do get some particles in that area as well. Not a lot, but definitely some. I did on my old grinder as well. It can be a pain to clean. I use compressed air to blow the area out before I clean it. Definitely helps get all the particles from the crevasses. I have an air compressor where I grind the dogs food. If you don't have access to a air compressor, you can purchase small cans of compressed air (normally used for cleaning computers & keyboards). I hope this info helps.

      I don't think I have ever timed it per say. I can pretty much do all my edging, weed wacking, and trim my trees on one set of batteries and have 30 percent or so left over with the aftermarket batteries used in the video. If I run Makita brand batteries, I do get longer run times. Making an educated guess, I would say you could get a solid 25-35 minutes of run time depending on which power setting you had it on and how much of a load the powerhead is under.

      @@ar.8899 I have never personally done turkey necks, but I would speculate that this grinder would have no trouble with them.

      Sorry I didn’t see a reply? Can you grind turkey wings and legs successfully?

      I personally have not. However I have gotten emails from people mentioning that they have had no issue with turkey.

    What size grapple is that? That one you got on

      It is a 54" from Tar River Implements. It is what was available from the dealer I bought the tractor from. Has been pretty decent. I have slightly bent one or two of the tines, but was able to straighten them back out.

    Try freezing 1/2 way. You nevk is a little small for a quick passthrough. You may need to cut to size if you partially freeze

    Very nice review. I'm finally retiring my 14 year old Toro gas powered mower for this mower. One thing I haven't seen so far in any reviews is the best way to clean the underside of the deck. Can you spray it down with a hose or is it best to just clean the deck with a scraper and cloth? Thank you!

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving 8 місяців тому

      The best way that I have found is to tip it up on end and spray it down with a hose. A scraper is needed if you don't do it as often or if you mow wet grass. There are films that you can spray on the underside of the deck to help with the grass build up (not sure of the brand names), and to my understanding they help a lot. There are some videos out there on YT that could give you a little more insight to them. With that said, I really don't get a lot of build up as long as I don't cut the grass when it is wet. Hope that helps.

      Use it about 6-10 times a year. It is still working great. Though I do need to sharpen the cutter plates and blades pretty soon.
