  • I install a set of aftermarket tow mirrors purchased from Amazon. I will give a step by step instruction on mounting and wiring these mirrors. This instruction will cover mirrors on my truck that has the following factory options. Power glass, heated glass, puddle lamp, in glass blinker, and power folding. When the install is done, the wiring will be as neat and tidy as possible. No stray wires running outside of the harness here.

    ************ UPDATE ON MOSTPLUS MIRRORS 1/7/23 ****************** The MostPlus mirrors are still functioning as they should. However I have had several issues with them. First the left mirror power folding option seized and would no longer function. I contacted the Amazon seller, and after "jumping through hoops" they finally sent me another mirror. The right mirror running lamp has had condensation in it since day one. Again I contacted the Amazon seller, but this time they would not do anything about it. Stating that it wasn't a warrantable item. Okay, so I'll just live with it. The mirrors have always shook a little at highway speeds, but I kind of expected that would be the case with a cheap knock off. You can't expect OEM quality for a quarter of the price. That is just how it is. Now it is winter here in Michigan and I recently discovered that the road salt is taking its toll on the chrome covers. Spotting the chrome, and almost staining it. The spots will come out with a lot of elbow grease, and a good polish but this is yet another reason that I can't recommend these mirrors. I am going to put a couple of heavy coats of wax, or possibly a ceramic coating on them and see if that helps. Hope this is helpful information for everyone, and helps you decide to purchase them or not. Thanks to everyone for watching, have a great day, and God Bless.

    You absolutely nailed it my friend! Your step by step instructions were so easy to follow along with and to do a job that even my local Chevy dealer out here in Pocatello Idaho said couldn't be done. Well, they were wrong and you were right. Everything is working just like yours and I could not be happier with the end results. What took me the longest was having to wait a week for the terminals to arrive from ebay but once they did the job was done in a couple hours just taking my time. Thank you for taking the time to make this easy to follow video👍👍👍👍👍

      That is great to hear it was so helpful. Comments like this is exactly why I spend the time to do the videos. I hope you get many years of trouble free use out of the mirrors. Thanks again for the kind words, and thank you for watching. Hope you and yours have a great Thanksgiving, and God Bless.

      On the side that I wasn't filming took me about 30 - 45 minutes. I try to take my time and make sure everything is just so when possible. I don't want to have to pull it all apart if after I get everything back together. The average mechanically inclined person could probably do it in 30 minutes or so.

    How do you like the mirrors? Do they vibrate at all when driving down the road? Great video and thank you for the detailed installation!

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Рік тому +2

      The mirrors are just okay. Quality is as you could expect from a cheap part from China. They function and look good, but there is much room for improvement. The upper mirror does vibrate. Not to the point that you can't use it, but it does vibrate none the less. The lower mirrors are steady as a rock, and that is what I find myself using the majority of the time. If I were to buy them over again, I would spend the extra and get the ones from Boost Auto Parts. It is my understanding that they are better quality. These will get you by and are tolerable, but nothing to brag about. Thanks for watching, and have a Merry Christmas.

    I just got my 17 Silverado and it came from the dealership with these tow mirrors. My blinker and cargo lights don’t work but I can move my mirror with the button. Was wondering if there is anything I should do to get they working or just check the wiring

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Рік тому

      You can check the wiring. It is really hard to say why those particular functions aren't working. Could be anything from wiring connected wrong to incorrect mirrors for the vehicle options.

      Some of the early 2015's are set up more like the 2014 model year. You may want to look up a video for the 2014 and see if that is more like your set up. I am not familiar with that set up so I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.

    I have a question. I have the same after market mirrors except they do not have power fold or back up tilt like the original mirrors that I have on my 2016 gmc sierra 1500 slt. Is the wiring you show on this video still the same to connect them?

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Рік тому

      It will be the same, but you won't have to deal with running the white wire if I am not mistaken. Kinda hard for me to remember exactly which color wire went to what without having the schematics to look at. But I know that the white wire is for the cargo light so you won't have to run that. I believe the power fold is wired into big plug and the mirror you have won't have that option so you should not have to do anything there.

    • @Kuromi_helloKitty11
      @Kuromi_helloKitty11 Рік тому

      @DevaultFamilyLiving according to the video, the white wire goes to the cargo lamp, blue wire goes to clearance lamp, black with white tracer is ground and the red with yellow tracer is the blinker. The video also had a pop up that said if your original mirror had a blinker on it, you didn't have to connect the red with yellow tracer so I'm alittle confused.

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Рік тому

      @@Kuromi_helloKitty11 you stated that you didn't have the "back up tilt" (I assume that is supposed to be light) which I refer to as the cargo lamp (white wire). The clearance lamp (amber light on the front side of the mirror) (blue wire). Some people think the amber light on the front of the mirror is a blinker but it isn't, it is just a clearance / running light. Red wire with yellow tracer gets spliced into the same color wire on the 18 pin plug coming from the mirror (if you have the blinker in the mirror glass). Referenced around the 18:30 mark of the video. Same think with the black wire. If you don't have the blinker "in the mirror glass" and are adding it, then you would need to take an extra step that I did not reference in the video cause did not need to do that. Do you have the blinker "in the mirror glass"?

    • @Kuromi_helloKitty11
      @Kuromi_helloKitty11 Рік тому

      @DevaultFamilyLiving yes, the oem mirror has the blinker in the mirror like your video, heated, puddle lamp, tilt in reverse, and the fold. The after market is like the one you had on the video except no fold or tilt

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Рік тому

      Okay. I misunderstood the tilt part. Sorry for the confusion. It took me a while to figure it all out when I did the first one. It is much easier to understand when you have everything right there in hand. It has been a bit since I did it and my memory isn't the best anyway. But yes the red/yellow wire does go to the red/yellow wire on the 18 pin connector from the mirror.

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving

      "To my knowledge" all of the bodyside harnesses have the wiring in them. You just have to add the proper wiring to the mirror side harness to tap into it. With that said, my truck is a "SLT" so my original mirrors had most of the features already.

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Рік тому +1

      The do shake when driving, and it is not just the set that I got. I had issues with the power folding option on the drivers side and the replacement one does the same thing. If I had to do it over again, I think I would spend the extra and get the ones from Boost Auto Parts. They have better reviews, and from my understanding are just a better quality mirror. I also have water condensation in the passenger marker light, and Mostplus would not warranty that. That issue is only with that mirror though. If you can live with the shaking they are worth the money, but I would not purchase them again. Thanks for watching and have a great day.

      @@mattheweasley5589 To be honest I really have never tried the memory function cause I'm really the only one to drive my truck. The automatic open / close function does still work with the key fob. Not a 100%, but that kind of stuff is usually controlled by the Body Control Module "BCM" and really should not be affected by the mirror itself if I am not mistaken.

    • @DevaultFamilyLiving
      @DevaultFamilyLiving  Рік тому +1

      That wiring is for the clearance & cargo lamps if I remember correctly. The install of that wire starts at around the 10:45 min mark of the video.
      The harness attached to the mirror is set up for 3/4 or 1 ton trucks and "I don't think" that extra wire is need for them. But the 1/2 ton has a different body harness so that wire gives you the additional wiring needed to power those two options.
