CAMPING in a SNOWSTORM with my Dog - calm before the storm!
Camping in the snow with my dog. In this video I hike to a camping spot in the mountains, in the South Island of New Zealand, and set up my hot tent and wood stove ready for an overnight snowstorm. It snows heavily overnight and I am faced with a problem when the chimney of my wood stove is damaged, forcing me to have to find a solution, all while dealing with heavy snow and wind. It is a beautiful snowy morning, with deep snow under foot, and once the clouds clear, a stunning cold spring morning. I hope you will enjoy joining me and my dog Indi, for an adventurous journey and relaxing camping adventure.
Thank you so much for watching, and for supporting the channel.
I would love to hear from you in the comments.

Tent Camping in RAINY Weather - BEST Way to Enjoy Nature!
Переглядів 8 тис.14 днів тому
Thank you for joining me on this long format camping adventure into the rainy New Zealand bush. This camp had it all, a beautiful hike in, an amazing wild camping spot alongside a river, the sound of rain, snow on the hills, a freezing cold night, and a beautiful sunny morning. I love listening to the rain on the tent and rain on the tarp, and there was plenty of rain sounds on this trip. Sitti...
Snow, Rain and Damaging Winds - Creating a cozy winter camp in the New Zealand mountains
Переглядів 8 тис.21 день тому
I love camping in the rain, but winter camping in the rain has it's challenges. This camp had snow on the ground, sleet, heavy rain, and strong winds. None the less it was beautiful, moody and exciting. I love to share the experience of camping in the elements and encourage others to get out into the outdoors no matter what the weather throws at you. My sister joined me for this trip into the m...
Camping in the DEEPEST Snow EVER - solo in tiny tent

After a snowstorm whipped through the South Island of New Zealand, bringing a sizeable dump of snow for the Southern Alps, I grabbed my backpack and headed out into the mountains for a snow camp as soon as the road opened. After a challenging walk and then climb, through what became thigh deep snow, I arrived at the top and set up my tent. It was a challenge to find wood for a campfire, but it ...

Have you ever wanted to have an entire camping ground to yourself? My dog Indi and I headed out to Wooded Gully, in the South Island of New Zealand on a stormy winter afternoon, in search of just that. This classic Kiwi unserviced camping ground is tucked away at the base of Mt Thomas and a favourite for hikers and campers, but we got the whole place to ourselves. Join us for the setting up of ...
Hot Tent Winter SNOW Camping - Warm Fire - (with my Dog)

My dog Indi and I have headed out camping after a snowfall in our local mountains in the South Island of New Zealand created a beautiful winter wonderland. I love winter camping. The temperatures were below freezing point, so perfect for a hot tent camp. I packed in the Pomoly Hussar 2.0 Hot Tent and wood stove. It was the perfect choice for the cold night ahead. I got the fire roaring and cook...
Camping in Heavy Rain - Campfire and Lake Views

A rainy camp in the mountains alongside a small lake. I love camping in the rain, especially in heavy non-stop rain. It was a wet walk in but I was well equiped for a warm, dry and comfortable camp. I managed to pitch my tent with the rain tarp over the top and have a view of the tarn (mountain lake). This was so relaxing, sitting and watching the rain drops falling on the water. Snow was forec...
Rugged Wild CAMPING With My DOG Alongside a Frozen Lake

For this adventurous solo hike and camp, Indi and I are in the Klondyke Valley in the South Island of New Zealand. It is mid winter, and although the weather is mild, we are up at 4000ft/1200m and the ground and lakes are frozen. Lighting a fire in these conditions in wet NZ forest is so so hard, as I was to discover. I came to this trip armed with tips and tricks for getting a fire going in we...
An Unforgettable Camping Adventure - why I abandoned my mountain camp
Переглядів 9 тис.2 місяці тому
I started this hike full of optimism, with great plans for an alpine winter camp on the top of a mountain, complete with a campfire and 360degree views of the sunrise, sunset and stars. But a small gear fail, and a frustrating human error, my error, put an end to that. What followed was some problem solving, quick planning, and a hike through the dark. The result was a relaxing solo winter camp...
HEAVY RAIN Car Camping with my DOG - could this be the ultimate shelter?

Car camping in a heavy downpour of rain. I head out overnight, with my dog Indi, to test out my newly purchased DoD Outdoors Base Camp Awning Tent - Light. Setting up on my own in heavy rain was challenging but once the shelter was up I had an incredibly cosy space in which to enjoy the sound of the rain on the tent. I camped overnight listening to the rain on the roof of the car. On this trip ...

If you say so ;), I believe most UA-cam, camping, bushcraft people don’t want you to know where they go, it’s like they found it, put the work in, we don’t deserve to know. For me it wouldn’t matter, I’m in USA, so I’m not hoping on a plane to find a remote campsite in New Zealand. I understand all the work that goes into finding these great places, but lately all the people I watch act like they are privy to these places, and that’s ok with me, I have no interest in going to all these places, some in NC, Canada, etc. Now, what really bothers me is that some UA-camrs are willing to reveal certain content, but only if you pay, or as you call it Patreon, or buy me a coffee, etc. I’ll have to remind all the people I watch, it it wasn’t for our viewership you wouldn’t exist, get paid and enjoy the privileges viewership gives you from UA-cam. I’ve stopped watching allot of these channels because of that. I don’t mind buying merchandise, I enjoy doing that, but when it comes to supplementing a channel that already gets paid for viewership, and let’s not forget the freebies they get, that’s where I say enough. Don’t take this personal, I was only promoted to write this after I heard what you said on not sharing a place, because it wouldn’t mean as much if we didn’t put the work into finding it, being insincere is worse than just saying the truth, I could understand if you just said, I don’t want tons of people finding these places, that I could understand, but not what you said. Sorry but UA-cam is taking the fun out of watching your favorite people when all revolves around giving more, to do what you love, to get compensate by UA-cam, and to get gear for free, not into supporting this.

Hi JbDrum Outdoors. I am interested in your thoughts on this because I am sure you are not the only one who feels this way. Your comment was very sincere. I am sorry that mine did not come across that way to you. What I didn't say (because I am trying to make the videos more about enjoying the experience of camping, and less about me) is that I have a clinical background in Adventure Therapy (in the US you might know it as Wilderness Therapy). So when I say that there is so much value in the challenge of finding a place to camp, it come not just from the heart, but from truly understanding the therapeutic benefits that come from challenge. I can't speak for other creators, perhaps there is insincerity there, but not here. Are there other reasons for me not revealing some spots too? Hell yeah. Like "I would feel scared to return to this place if I thought people know I camp here from time to time." or "not everyone camps in a way that respects the preciousness of these places and the NZ Department of Conservation has not put in place the infrastructure or maintenance in these areas to sustain increased visitors." Of course just because there are other reasons for not wanting to always reveal where I am, doesn't mean the one I gave was insincere ;) I agree that there is something not quite right with the YT structure if viewers are feeling that creators always have their hands out (which if I am hearing you correctly could be what you are suggesting). We don't want to have to ask for money either. Ironically if there was a way that everyone who viewed the video paid 5c, then I would earn a living wage, and wouldn't that be nice. I can't speak for everyone, I am a small channel, but I get so little from doing You Tube. Ad revenue will never ever sustain a small channel. You need numbers for that to happen. My ad revenue covers the fuel and food for the trips. I am grateful to a small handful of companies that have offered me their products in exchange for showing them in the videos. Products add interest in videos, which creators hope will increase views, but they don't pay bills. I have worked tirelessly for 2 years, with no income for the first 9 months, putting out weekly content (2 days of travel and filming and 3 days of editing) for the last 7 months, and am yet to make a profit. Why keep going then? Well for the same reason any small business keeps going through those tough growth years, because you know you have to invest if you want to be successful one day. I know when you bring this up you are not referring specifically to me, hence the 'not taking it personally', and I don't. There are some big players in the game. More often that not though, all is not what it seems. There is also a huge amount of expense for them, and payback from those years of earning nothing, or very little. I only know a handful of NZ creators personally, but can assure you they absolutely work their butts off. Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment. I appreciate it. I know I have written a novel, but insincerity and greed are two things so removed from what I stand for, that I had to write a few words. Lol. All the best, Cathy.

@@adventureot I truly enjoy watching your videos, like I said earlier, it’s not personally meant at you, but because a love and passion becomes more of a business to most, not all, it just gets disheartening, love your channel, and I guess my venting was probably at the wrong channel, but I’ve seen so much change that sometimes you have too say something, love you and how hard you work to provide content …, 🥂

Yes, you know it. There is something very satisfying about working out a solution. It makes trips so much more enjoyable when I don't let myself get upset when things go 'wrong' or not to plan. I try to remember there really is no hard and fast plan, except to get out there and enjoy it.

Thanks so much Craig. We have some chattery little birds here. They typically don't encounter the snow that much as we don't often get snow lower down like this amongst the trees, where they live. It is a bit funny to be sitting in the snow listening to them chirp away. I think they were happy to see the sun.
