I love your long trips. Hope the journey will always be smooth and smooth. The weather is getting colder, keep yourself warm and don't get sick. Wish you always healthy and safe.
Does Indie wear snow shoes? Sweet little (not so little, I know) Indie is a sweetheart. I love how she loves camping and has grown in her confidence as a camp dog-going exploring, etc.
Hi Jean. No I haven't got any for her yet. I went and talked to someone who is experienced with dogs in winter conditions and their recommendation was (with a dog of the breeding that Indi is - bred for high country cold terrain) to test her out in simple snow conditions (eg 1 hr walks or less on moderately/patchy snowy ground) to see if it even bothers her. Some dogs are more distressed by things on their paws than the cold. I definitely think that is Indi. So far she is not bothered, and she has very tough paws as is an outdoor exploring pooch, not a couch girl. Any sign she isn't happy though and I will explore it again.
Thank you Shinta. I am having a great weekend. A bit of relaxing, and a video that is being well received.... which is always a nice feeling. Thank you.
Yes you are right, it is just about as far as you can travel. Good spotting, Rohan was set at Mt Sunday, which is no more than 100km from where I filmed this.
Amazing transformation over night for your camping area ..absolutely beautiful ❤ love your problem solving 😊. Safe camping 🏕 🙏 ❤️. Thank you Cathy and Indi..take care.
Thank you! It was an amazing change wasn’t it?! I had the feeling as I was walking out that it was not going to last for long. Typical spring weather. Snow was probably melted by that evening.
Hi just started watching your channel this is my first one here The snow is So beautiful and watchingyour fur baby play in it was a jo5. & You were prepared & clam you are with yours stove it worked out well. Stay safe and enjoy Well and God bless ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for another great video, you are always cool and calm when things don't go as planned! Love watching Indie too , she is such a sweetheart. Ill probably watch the same video over again until the nest one. Safe Travels Cathy and Indie.
Totally agree about the hard earned places found through tenacity, sweat and discovery and (sometimes even) by chance. Each of us should experience our own discoveries and special places. So rewarding for the adventurer in all of us. A wonderful video, the snow transformed the landscape. Always admire your cheerfulness and Kiwi can-do attitude.
Hello darling a another great video so peaceful.relaxing and beautiful well you and indi stay safe out there until next time love from west Virginia USA ❤️
It's one of these days when I am coming after job and see all of my favourite outdoor channels all around the world drop new videos and it is hard to choose what to see first , but because you Cathy got snow camping and is in so beautiful scenario I watch yours first Thank you very much Cathy for another great video All the best from UK Slaw
Don’t understand the UA-cam algorithm - I watch literally every New Zealand camping, fishing, hunting, caravanning, hiking, tramping, TA, mountaineering video posts…..yet never seen your posts until recently. Obviously been binge watching ever since 😂
It's great you're eating so healthy while camping! Most of us don't, it's hot dogs and cheese burgers. Waking up to the stove pipe problem sounds like a nightmare, but you made it work! I admire your positive attitude!
Thanks so much Aaron. ha ha, don't you worry, I have enjoyed my fair share of hot dogs and burgers. I've just worked out now what makes my body thrive and the combo of whole foods (mostly - love the odd treat too) and outdoor time, is my magic bullet.
Hello ma'am I am your new subscriber from Pakistan I like very much this kind of adventure and outdoor activities you have a good camping stuff keep it up 👍👍👍
Another wonderful video. Love to watch you and Indie on your adventures. I agree with you on not giving out your location. Just hiking to your location is an adventure. If someone got your coordinates, I wonder how much of the beautiful scenery they would miss trying to stay on course with a GPS. Their eyes would be on their phone or GPS device and not seeing all of the glorious things along the way. Well done young lady, well done. (I can say that since I am an old broad in the USA who wishes I was young again. I would give hiking and camping a go but way to old for that now.) Safe travels and I will be waiting for your next adventure.
Thanks Lisa. Yes I think when you go to a spot that someone else has discovered you miss all of that mystery and satisfaction of finding it, plus you have a preconceived idea of what it might be like when you get there, so you are not quite as engaged with the environment. That is me anyway. I can't speak for others of course.
Hola!
Hi I just joined your followers, love your environment and your four legged friend is just delightful. Gosh your ventures are lovely, listening to those delightful bird song, how rustic and so familiar are the Bush and the tussock around you. Love the trees that are in the background of your tent, making me homesick but never mind seeing your surrounds is fabulous, certainly appreciate your videos. Cheers
I love winter camping, everything is so pretty when the snow falls. Indie looked real comfy in her puffy jacket. it's a shame about your stovepipe. Dwayne
Me too. The contrasts are lovely when it snows. Especially this spring snow where you get the clear skies afterwards and immediate thaw out, the snow falling off the trees, etc.

Thanks Mothkeeper for taking the time to share that with me. Your comment has caused me to pause and think about how much I value being genuine. As my channel grows it is going to be important for my core values to underpin every aspect of what I do. Cheers
There's alot of channels out there doing the same thing and you're reasonably new... I don't have time to have a channel of my own but would love to help you, where can I send you ideas?
Fantastic early morning watch with coffee what an amazing scene to wake up to after watching all of your camping videos so far it's very obvious that all your hot tent practice has paid of you put the tent up like a pro even more so you adapted to make things work when having issues with your chimney super awesome stuff and then there's miss cuteness Indie laxed out in a puppy coma in her own bed loved that 😊😂 a friend of mine has the same camp stove as your he had issues with his chimney like yours too he put key loops on either side of his spark arrestor and them clipped small steel carabineers to it so he could tie the guide ropes to it when windy worked well and didn't cause any burning or heat issues for his guide ropes maybe that's something you could try for yours can't wait for the next camping video to come out 😊
Do you know what kind of birds are chirping in the background? Love how you are able to improvise when things don’t work as they should. Wonderful to see sweet Indi again.
Awesomeness. And Indi does look rather cute in her puffer jacket. I do agree with you in regard to location sharing. Searching out your own location and hiking path also comes with considering your skill set and needed risk assessment which maybe glossed over with an easy site referral. Plus there is that satisfaction that comes with the hard work. I am intrigued as how long the snow last on the south island mountains. You seem to have snow well into spring. A great video Cathy. Thanks
Hi Rosie. Thank you! Our mountains are quite high, so some of them will have small amounts of snow at the tops (or ice perhaps) even through summer. New Zealand is changeable because we are an island nation, and our location, so we might have warm winds coming in from the pacific islands or Australia and then a southerly change bring freezing weather straight off Antarctica. That means we could be having some nice warm spring weather and then BOOM in rolls an icy blast bringing snow. It is not unheard of to have these right through spring and the occasional one in summer even.
@@adventureot Thanks Cathy. We get to experience those chilly Antarctic winds where we are in Oz too. Rather bracing. New Zealand looks gorgeous. Well worth a leap across the Tasman I'd say. (Its on the bucket list!)
For your chimney guy lines could you use the metal leaders that they use for fishing. They are 15 - 20 cm long, you could attach them to the spark arrester then the guy lines to the leaders. Not sure if that would work, but might be an idea.
Good evening Cathy .. 👍👍👍 .. nice 😊. You're coming out of Winter and here in Switzeralnd, we are going into it .. cannot wait. Those stove chimney guy line attachments. Look at using short lengths of 2mm braided stainless steel flexible wire. Loops at both ends fixed with 2mm Aluminium Ferrules and Bob's your Uncle. Lightweight and strong and no more than 10 minutes to fabricate the lot. The plastic-coated variant will work just as well. The plastic on the wire will melt as far as it will and no further. No fuss as the wire is corrosion-resistant. I agree .. on an overnighter, there is no reason why one cannot rustle up a decent nosh .. which you do quite well 😋. Thanks for sharing .. take care .. Tommy.
Yes, you know it. There is something very satisfying about working out a solution. It makes trips so much more enjoyable when I don't let myself get upset when things go 'wrong' or not to plan. I try to remember there really is no hard and fast plan, except to get out there and enjoy it.
What a amazing video, just come across your channel and have subbed, stunning scenery, as a brit, it's weird hearing the bird life, which to me is associated with hot/,arid/tropical environment, yet you've snow (which looks amazing), and the birds are still going lol, looking forward to watching more of your videos, good health and safe travels, cheers craig
Thanks so much Craig. We have some chattery little birds here. They typically don't encounter the snow that much as we don't often get snow lower down like this amongst the trees, where they live. It is a bit funny to be sitting in the snow listening to them chirp away. I think they were happy to see the sun.
Giday Kiwi, they sell better flu kits online or just buy a length of SSteel piping cut it and just buy the adapters, whatever u choose, great video mate, that was one hell of a big snow dump overnight. Just say it Cathy, it's for ur safety, u don't spill the locations. Hugs for Indi 🇦🇺🐶💜 get into to those hemp seeds woman, very good 4 u.😲🤣 I like the snow caps on ur boots, cute. U going to have to get a donkey, with that pack, stove and bits.😂
ha ha, you mentioning the donkey makes me think about how I would day dream for hours and hours that I had my own pack horse when my parents would take us out on multi day hikes when we were kids. I dreamt of the day I could buy a horse and trek through the mountains without having to carry my gear (and some other poor creature having to carry me too). Now look at me. Something went wrong, lol.
HI CATHY & INDI 👋 VID was Great! 👍 Shame abt the Stove pipe, but,U made it wrk. ✅️ I also liked da pants, Noticed 'em rght away. Glad all went well. Indi is da best😍😘♥️💯 Till then ✌️ 😎 P.s. U hear that?? 10k on its way 😉
Hi there. I totally agree with you. About not giving where you are. The hole thing about the outdoor is the unknown and enjoy the time to find your special spot awesome winter camping. My winter is on its way. Can’t wait for all that snow. Love Louise
Must be great to be in the mountains without the huge crowds like we have in North America or in the European Alps/Nepal and China (Mount Everest). To be on an Island nation far from other first world countries is nice in many ways.
Hi Joyce. No, not yet (he he). Usually for solo trips I am very careful about ensuring I am really familiar with the environment. I live and breathe the topographical maps before I leave, and have them off line on my phone, so I always know where I am. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you.
😅 yip, it’s a cute jacket but really a bit silly with the hood. I found it at a thrift store for next to nothing and couldn’t resist, but it’s not the best fit.
Thanks. Yes she is well. It’s just her thing she does. It’s something she does when she wearing something on her body )like a jacket or harness) or when something feels unfamiliar. Lots of shaking on this trip as she has only ever encountered a small amount of snow and only on two occasions. She doesn’t shake as home.
If you say so ;), I believe most UA-cam, camping, bushcraft people don’t want you to know where they go, it’s like they found it, put the work in, we don’t deserve to know. For me it wouldn’t matter, I’m in USA, so I’m not hoping on a plane to find a remote campsite in New Zealand. I understand all the work that goes into finding these great places, but lately all the people I watch act like they are privy to these places, and that’s ok with me, I have no interest in going to all these places, some in NC, Canada, etc. Now, what really bothers me is that some UA-camrs are willing to reveal certain content, but only if you pay, or as you call it Patreon, or buy me a coffee, etc. I’ll have to remind all the people I watch, it it wasn’t for our viewership you wouldn’t exist, get paid and enjoy the privileges viewership gives you from UA-cam. I’ve stopped watching allot of these channels because of that. I don’t mind buying merchandise, I enjoy doing that, but when it comes to supplementing a channel that already gets paid for viewership, and let’s not forget the freebies they get, that’s where I say enough. Don’t take this personal, I was only promoted to write this after I heard what you said on not sharing a place, because it wouldn’t mean as much if we didn’t put the work into finding it, being insincere is worse than just saying the truth, I could understand if you just said, I don’t want tons of people finding these places, that I could understand, but not what you said. Sorry but UA-cam is taking the fun out of watching your favorite people when all revolves around giving more, to do what you love, to get compensate by UA-cam, and to get gear for free, not into supporting this.
Hi JbDrum Outdoors. I am interested in your thoughts on this because I am sure you are not the only one who feels this way. Your comment was very sincere. I am sorry that mine did not come across that way to you. What I didn't say (because I am trying to make the videos more about enjoying the experience of camping, and less about me) is that I have a clinical background in Adventure Therapy (in the US you might know it as Wilderness Therapy). So when I say that there is so much value in the challenge of finding a place to camp, it come not just from the heart, but from truly understanding the therapeutic benefits that come from challenge. I can't speak for other creators, perhaps there is insincerity there, but not here. Are there other reasons for me not revealing some spots too? Hell yeah. Like "I would feel scared to return to this place if I thought people know I camp here from time to time." or "not everyone camps in a way that respects the preciousness of these places and the NZ Department of Conservation has not put in place the infrastructure or maintenance in these areas to sustain increased visitors." Of course just because there are other reasons for not wanting to always reveal where I am, doesn't mean the one I gave was insincere ;) I agree that there is something not quite right with the YT structure if viewers are feeling that creators always have their hands out (which if I am hearing you correctly could be what you are suggesting). We don't want to have to ask for money either. Ironically if there was a way that everyone who viewed the video paid 5c, then I would earn a living wage, and wouldn't that be nice. I can't speak for everyone, I am a small channel, but I get so little from doing You Tube. Ad revenue will never ever sustain a small channel. You need numbers for that to happen. My ad revenue covers the fuel and food for the trips. I am grateful to a small handful of companies that have offered me their products in exchange for showing them in the videos. Products add interest in videos, which creators hope will increase views, but they don't pay bills. I have worked tirelessly for 2 years, with no income for the first 9 months, putting out weekly content (2 days of travel and filming and 3 days of editing) for the last 7 months, and am yet to make a profit. Why keep going then? Well for the same reason any small business keeps going through those tough growth years, because you know you have to invest if you want to be successful one day. I know when you bring this up you are not referring specifically to me, hence the 'not taking it personally', and I don't. There are some big players in the game. More often that not though, all is not what it seems. There is also a huge amount of expense for them, and payback from those years of earning nothing, or very little. I only know a handful of NZ creators personally, but can assure you they absolutely work their butts off. Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment. I appreciate it. I know I have written a novel, but insincerity and greed are two things so removed from what I stand for, that I had to write a few words. Lol. All the best, Cathy.
@@adventureot I truly enjoy watching your videos, like I said earlier, it’s not personally meant at you, but because a love and passion becomes more of a business to most, not all, it just gets disheartening, love your channel, and I guess my venting was probably at the wrong channel, but I’ve seen so much change that sometimes you have too say something, love you and how hard you work to provide content …, 🥂
Good morning beautiful little indie. Stay safe and dry
Awww, thanks. She is the pampered pooch.
I love it when a dog watches what you're doing. Very attentive and a beauty of a dog.
Thank you Claudie

I love your long trips. Hope the journey will always be smooth and smooth. The weather is getting colder, keep yourself warm and don't get sick. Wish you always healthy and safe.
Thank you 😊
Does Indie wear snow shoes?
@@adventureot I am glad she can enjoy snow adventures bare paws. She looked like she was having a ball.
Great video…amazing amount of snowfall overnight! So sorry about the crashing of the stovepipe but you made a great comeback 😅😅

24:13 sounds like you are camping with R2D2, LOL
🤣 it sure does
HI CATHY & INDI 👋

Indi is da best😍😘♥️💯
Till then ✌️ 😎
P.s. U hear that??
10k on its way 😉
Ooooo, yes almost there. Thanks so much Vivian.
❤❤❤❤
❤
Thanks
Hi there. I totally agree with you. About not giving where you are. The hole thing about the outdoor is the unknown and enjoy the time to find your special spot awesome winter camping. My winter is on its way. Can’t wait for all that snow. Love Louise
Thanks ☺️ I love the change of seasons. Each one brings something new.
Must be great to be in the mountains without the huge crowds like we have in North America or in the European Alps/Nepal and China (Mount Everest). To be on an Island nation far from other first world countries is nice in many ways.
It's really special. Expensive to travel anywhere (lol) but less populated, which is really nice.
🤩 49:24 so beautiful
Thank you Arlette.
When you go exploring leaving your camp, do you ever get lost?
Great video.
Hi Joyce. No, not yet (he he). Usually for solo trips I am very careful about ensuring I am really familiar with the environment. I live and breathe the topographical maps before I leave, and have them off line on my phone, so I always know where I am. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you.
I love seeing your adventures with your pup! New subscriber. ❤
Have you heard of the TV show. "The Summit" takes place on Mt Head?
I hadn't Anne, but I know about it now, thanks to you and Google. Sounds very interesting. Incredible part of the country down there. Very rugged.
Great video thank you ! Was it a long Hike to get to that test site?
Thanks. No not overly long, compared to others. Felt like forever though carrying the tent.
✌
Thanks
Sounds like the Tui's were singing you a morning song or are those Bell birds?
I think they were Bellbirds. Such a beautiful morning chorus.
You dog cannot hear as well with the hood on. That why it doesn't like it. Most dogs shake a lot in those jackets, trying to get the right fit. LOL
😅 yip, it’s a cute jacket but really a bit silly with the hood. I found it at a thrift store for next to nothing and couldn’t resist, but it’s not the best fit.
I've been w8n n w8n.................................thx
The wait is over 😁🎉
@@adventureot can't you do a new video like every 3 or 4 days?🤭
Your dog keeps shaking itself often. Is it okay? Looks like it's very itchy. Maybe it's fleas
Replace your stove pipe with sectional pipe safer
Yes I agree. I'm on to it. Thanks
What is the birdsong?
Mainly Bellbirds. They are so chirpy, ha ha, in mood and song.
What does PLB stand for?
Hi Jo. It stands for Personal Locator Beacon.
@@adventureot Ah, thank you. Hopefully you never need it. I’m envious of country’s beauty.

Must be frustrating wearing a doggy coat. If a flea bites her, she can't scratch it.
Yes indeed… good thing she’s resilient 😊👍
Thank you
So...ummm...like...you celebrate Haloween down there in the spring and Easter in the fall???
Yes indeed. Probably seems crazy to some, but all we have ever known down here.
Can I go with you
🤣
Hell yeah. Like "I would feel scared to return to this place if I thought people know I camp here from time to time." or "not everyone camps in a way that respects the preciousness of these places and the NZ Department of Conservation has not put in place the infrastructure or maintenance in these areas to sustain increased visitors." Of course just because there are other reasons for not wanting to always reveal where I am, doesn't mean the one I gave was insincere ;)
I agree that there is something not quite right with the YT structure if viewers are feeling that creators always have their hands out (which if I am hearing you correctly could be what you are suggesting).
太假啦!
