Переглядів 772 місяці тому
A lot of vintage ( 1950/60 and 70's ) sewing machines have this very concern. This is a common issue. However if you do not know how to do it. It could be a very difficult task. We have been asked about this today so we decided to provide an answer. Judi and I hope this gives you the answer. Re fit a Bobbin mechanism on a vintage sewing machine.
Hand Crank on a Free Arm Sewing machine
Переглядів 1132 місяці тому
Destined for the scrap heap. Judi and I decided to try to give this another chance. We took a chance to attempt to make a mounting plate and adding a Hand crank to it. This was quite an extensive task but after The fact so rewarding. Yes there is life after the Motor dies. A bit of imagination and lateral thinking. Than you.
1868 Sewing Machine O Robinson. UK

This is a machine we picked up about ten years ago. Researching we found an English patent 1868 O Robinson for this Galoshing or Back Strapping machine. This is unusual as it feeds along the arm and not across it. I would think ideal for boot back strapping and inside sleeves and trouser legs. I bit of a favorite this machine We were lucky to have some LONG needles which fit it and now it is se...

Tensioner assembly
Переглядів 1033 місяці тому
This is a very basic clip on re assembling a tensioner in an antique sewing machine. Here we used a Singer VS 2. Most tensioner are basically the same. Mainly a few different colors or trendy design changes. The take up spring is important to get right before you re assemble. It is worth the extra time getting that take up spring right. The one difference is some take up springs, spring up and ...

    I think you indicated that your cabinet was solid wood, not laminate. I've just acquired a Singer treadle machine (4 drawers) here in the US, and I researched the serial number to reveal that it was made in 1891. However, my machine is laminate everywhere -- even the drawers. May I inquire as the date your machine was made? Also, would you recommend the treatments sown here for a laminate Singer treadle cabinet?

    • @SewWhatMaryborough800plus
      @SewWhatMaryborough800plus Рік тому

      Hi. Thank you. I am sorry if your perception was "I indicated that these are solid timber". It was never my intention. Very few cabinets of this era and onwards are mainly veneer. As this cabinet is no long with us we are unable to place an accurate date on this machine. At a guess I'd say Circa: 1930ish.

      Hi Jessica triple o steel wool each time. You only use a Lint Free cloth to wipe over 5 mins after the second coat to remove streaks or excess .. The finer each coat the Better result. I hope this helps.

    • @SewWhatMaryborough800plus

      JUdy with the head itself we polish the head with a soft cloth and a fine coating of silicon spray to finish off. For the head. Once polished no oil should be left sitting to get on your fabric.
