I grew up in south florida, and tbh despite I have wanted to dream of getting out of the state and moving to Iowa or somewhere else that's quiet and less city-ish, money is not in my cards right now. but If I do, boy I got to get use to the massive cold. I would like to visit it first.

Just know that if you move here during a milder winter like the one we are having, know that they get a LOT worse. He's right about the isolation, especially during winter because it gets dark early in the evening. Also know too if you move here from out of state into a small rural town, don't be shocked if we don't roll out the welcome mat to you. Best thing to do is move to a larger town, blend in for a while, become "more Iowan"......then dip your toe in the rural town stream. You people from California- you know who you are, best just stay right where you are at. Summer weather sucks here too- we get a LOT of humidity, especially in rural areas because of all the corn growing going on- it's like living amongst a 8' tall rain forest for miles and miles and miles. It also triggers some pretty extreme thunderstorms, we've gotten more big tornadoes the last 10-15 years than I remember growing up- so have a basement, and if it is looking dark off to the west, you smell rain/ozone and the sky looks green/purple, or greyish blue/purple- gather up your animals and batten down the hatches, especially if you feel a drop in pressure outside. Some of us Iowans are more sensitive to severe weather than others, it's a survival skill, haha.

Insight: when the QC was "created" it was on the tag line, communities joined by a river. As a lifelong resident of 62 years, I define the area more as the conglomeration of communities on the Mississippi. I understand that the outliers love to be enveloped in the QC community! I now live in Port Byron, IL and often say that I live in small town just north of the QC.

Go live in Des Moines if you use that kind of word. You're not welcome in the rural towns- best just keep that "d" word where you are now. We really don't like weird or ethnic people in our small towns. Just being honest for your sake and ours. It's better than it used to be, but yeah, nah- just stay away from anything smaller than Des Moines, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids.

Grew up in Bettendorf. Knew of Crow Creek Park, before it was a park, and your standing by an old quarry, not a pond. Use to be a cave in Devils Glenn park until citify fathers decided it was unsafe and had it filled in. Don't know if I would move back there as it's become to urbanized and crowded for my taste. I Love Illinois, especially the western, central and southern parts. Too bad everything west of I-39 and south of I-80 doesn't form a new state. New Illinois might be worthy. It's not fair to the rural and small town residents that 60 cents of every tax dollar goes to Crook County.

The reliance on the ag industry has me a bit worried, even if deere stays, the decline in the ag economy can be felt with layoffs. It's a long shot, but I'm hoping more tech industry can move in slowly without disrupting the housing market.

Rock island you can find cheap places since the taxes there are astronomically high on that side of the river and landlords just want any Tennant in there to aid with the property taxes. Why you can find 2 bedroom homes over there for under 1000. The landlords there are thirsty asf
