2024 Southwest Chief Chicago to LA
Our Amtrak Southwest Chief ride began in Chicago on a chilly December afternoon. We travelled across the snow-dusted plains of Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. A brief trip through Colorado combined flat land with vistas of snowy mountains in the distance. New Mexico and Arizona featured rocky hillsides and secretive nooks and crannies. Palm trees said “Welcome back to California” and we arrived at the Los Angeles Amtrak Union Station.

The state capitol of Kentucky, the Bluegrass State, is located in Frankfort, Kentucky. As with many capitols there were several capitols before the current 1910 building.
