    Thanx for the video. I've got a 2023 RC390 and am more into sport bikes, but am considering trading up to a 690 and setting it up as a super moto, street! Have been concerned w/ reliability issues I read about w/ the 690, 790 models. KTM's have always put out the power! • @JohnHowerton137

      The reliability issues come from people who think oil changes come every 6,000 miles, never check air filters, are careless when filling fuel and dump dirt in the tank, do goofy mods and hacks, etc… All machines have issues, but one thing the decades old KTM LC4 engines isn’t.. is unreliable. Thing was winning Dakar with half the advancements that it has now 😆 Mines on 22,000 nearly flawless miles now, and if you watch my other 690 videos, you’ll know many of those those weren’t poosey footing it around 🤣 Aloha 🤙

      Yes I figured it would be pushing because the math just doesn’t allow but I seen John doing it and assumed he was using a 15amp. The 5000w popped my 15amp breaker within about 1 minute on regular charge and the 3000w converter popped it in about 5 minutes every time. Didn’t think Id have much luck but I enjoy experimenting.

I usually have it up top now and just tip it forward off-road. You can see it in a ton of my Freeride videos and probably some of my newer videos on my 450. Great video I’m just curious does this prevent headshake on landings? I’m a bit of a beginner on the motocross bike and sometimes I’m not on the gas when I land. That being said I would like a steering stabilizer to prevent headshake on some of those landings.

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137 26 днів тому

      It’ll take the edge off some of the rapid movements, but designed a little more for softening edges of ruts etc… doesn’t work like a real stabilizer like a GPR or something. Might help for what you want, but having someone help you with your bike setup would probably help you more to be completely honest with you. Probably need to stiffen your front end a bit so it’s not hammering into and staying in the bottom of the stroke. It’s defecting because the energy has nowhere to go because there’s no suspension left and the travel in the tire is used up too. The energy has to go somewhere. Often the same reason a bike will swap in the rear unless the rebound damping is too slow. “Suspension is packing” if you’ve ever heard that term. It’s different than “bottoming out” which is the “clank” for lack of a better term.

    Nice! Any way to charge the freeride with a J1772 Ev Charger?

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137 Місяць тому

      Not sure. I looked into it a little bit to see if I could get some kind of adapter for any of EV/plug stations or if any of the EV stations just had a generic 220v that I could hook up to, but I kind of came up with nothing and/or STUPID crazy high fees to charge! Just tapping into the home 110 is way easier for as little as I ride. Nothing but a bunch of rich more-money-than-brains people around here who virtue signal with their EVs. They don’t really care what things cost. $9 for a dozen eggs.. doesn’t matter, they didn’t even look at the price. Most will have hookups at home, plus on an island, all the further they drive is to go art shopping or Starbucks, so we don’t really need charging stations around. That said my landlord has a hookup here at the house and it just plugs into the pretty standard 3 prong dryer looking plug that was installed. Same one I charged off at my old place. He told me I could use it, but I don’t like poking around in his carport and unplugging his charging system for his only transportation. Don’t need it frying a board of something. So if you have a system at home, you might be able to tap into the higher voltage at the source instead.

I’ve never rode a dirt bike in my life, and riding my eride pro ss in mililani trails got me curious in wanting to get a dirt bike. The free ride is on sale right now for 6600, and I’m just wondering if it’s worth buying. I have a tendency to put my feet down on certain steep hills with all sorts of rocks and obstacles going up on my eride so I can balance and help my self up if I lose traction. With the free ride, I tip toe on flat ground. Also, I don’t have a 220 plug. And for range, I’m not too sure how far the trails are, but I don’t want to get stuck in the trails. I swear the trails feel longer than 25 miles, that’s including the ride back to the truck 🤔 will it still get 25 miles with steep hills with obstacles to climb like rocks roots, etc? How do you go about charging it safely if I don’t have a 220 outlet?

      @OahuNative honestly, I can’t give you that answer. Everyone rides differently. I can pretty confidently tell you 20. It’s just like a big V8 if you’re hammering on the throttle (hill climbs) it gets 6mpg, if you’re cruising hwy at 50mph (easy slow single track) you get 20 mpg. The eBikes are like that. They dont use battery when off the throttle, but they chew through it when you’re on it hard. I get like 10-11 miles when I ride motocross style, 16-18 mixed XC, and 20-25 rocky trails, single track, jungle stuff. Riding with friends I get closer to the 25, by myself closer to the 16 because I’m not putting around as much 🤣 Voltage converter. See my last short. I can’t tell you it’s better or worse than the equivalent SurRon because I haven’t ridden them. That said…. A SurRon is a SurRon and a KTM is a KTM. I know which one I’m choosing. That said, SurRon is pretty separated from it’s Chinese competition… I’m just not there with it. I feel like the objective reviewers base the SunRon products on potential (Ie.. what it could be). I am on board with the Electric Motion bikes. I flew to Ohau to ride John’s a few years ago. They are great trail bikes, but I knew I’d want to jump the crap out of whatever I got 🤣

      @@JohnHowerton137 I see. My eride pro ss (similar to the surron but better, lol) can jump a lot of stuff, lol. It’s pretty quick and have a lot of torque. Sport mode it can go 60mph. I love that bike and it can go anywhere I want to and have all the power in need and some, plus long battery range. The ktm piqued my interest when I found out it was half off. Checked it out at the dealer, loved the aesthetics. When I sat on it to see how it feels, I was tip toeing. I’m wondering if that would be a problem as I never rode a dirt bike before. When I ride trails with my eride pro ss, certain hills with rocks and roots in it, I have a tendency to put my feet down for balance, or if I’m going to bail, as I can reach the ground. Im wondering if that will be a problem for me if I were to do the same thing on the ktm. Im not that experienced in riding trails. Last weekend, was my fourth time going, but I feel confident on my eride pro ss, because I feel In control. If I can barely touch the ground with the ktm, I won’t feel in control and I’m wondering if I’ll be laying the bike a lot🤦🏽‍♂️ As for the charging, do you know if it’s safe to charge it from the dryer? I’ve read on forums that there’s an adapter that can go into the dryer plug. But if I’m not mistaken, isn’t that 240 volts? Opposed to the 220v required for the charger? I ordered the adapter the day I put the down payment on the ktm, in the event I buy the bike, at least I’ll be able to charge it. But I’m. Not too sure if it will be safe to use that adapter on the dryer outlet. As the voltages are different

      @@OahuNative everything about it is more bike. The eride is just an overweight mountain bike. You'll use both unless you plan on selling the eride. The dryer 240 is the same thing. Mine has mostly been charged off my dryer plug with an adapter my friend and I made. I have videos for all this stuff. Get into my Freeride playlists and binge watch for a while 😋🤣

    FYI that stock m tensioner works on spring pressure. I agree that these engines are way too loud

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137 2 місяці тому

      Technically stock work on oil pressure, which is part of the reason the idle runs so high… to keep tension. The DirtTricks one is pretty cool with spring and ratcheting notches, so once the pressure is built the notches lock the position so it can’t go slack. As the chain wears/slacks it just ratchets in more notches. I’m actually a little surprised KTM hasn’t bought or licensed etc.. that design for their auto tensioners.

    John Howerton -- how is this working out for you? Any concerns with harming the charger or battery?

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137 2 місяці тому

      Works perfect. Honestly it didn’t seam to charge that much slower, because I think the charger throttles back so much at the very end of the charge that it ends up being not that much different time wise. The dealer I bought my bike (and friends bikes) actually charges them this way.. and I have other followers on here that do it this way when they go camping and stuff 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Amazing! Just looked in my parts bag & sure enough, there's the shorter bolt! Will definitely install on my EXC-F! I recognize those bird sounds from our epic Hawaii family vacation last Summer!

    Good to see that you still have this bike at 21,000 miles. I've got a 2018 with only 7,000 miles (old guy here @62). It's a great bike for what I use it for, I'm in the Southern California desert. On these long roads (paved / dirt) out here, it's a blast. I probably would have more miles on it, but I've got an adventure bike that gets a little more use. I've gotten a lot of great tips for the 690 from your channel. Many of the parts you have used have made it on my 690 as well. Thanks for the work and videos you do. Stay safe and God Speed. ✌️
