I think it needs more tension. We put a manual adjuster on a KLX351 and adjusted it until it stopped ticking.

FYI that stock m tensioner works on spring pressure. I agree that these engines are way too loud

Technically stock work on oil pressure, which is part of the reason the idle runs so high… to keep tension. The DirtTricks one is pretty cool with spring and ratcheting notches, so once the pressure is built the notches lock the position so it can’t go slack. As the chain wears/slacks it just ratchets in more notches. I’m actually a little surprised KTM hasn’t bought or licensed etc.. that design for their auto tensioners.

When you tightened the two 8mm bolts, the red nut on the ‘rod’ was not touching the housing surface. As then, at conclusion, it Was touching. Doesn’t that double the tension already set when gap was 2mm ?

Sorry, this is an old comment. No, the red nut is just a lock nut. The center stud is what adjusts the tension.

Did you replace the tensioner because of ticking or other reasons?

Just for noisy. Doesn't make as big a difference on these bikes as other KTM models. Honestly, sounds more or less the same.

Yeah. The 450-500 one is better than the 250-350 and 690 one. These 450-500 ones are probably fine (lots of crazy high hour bikes out there)… I just wanted to tighten things up out of habit more than anything.
