Absolutely Beautiful!!!!!!! Rock on!!!!!!!!
Wow
Hi Rita!
This is my bass. Amazing well job. the bass is restored and sounds amazing. Thank you!! By the way I also have the Alembic DS5 POWER SUPPLY that accompanies .
This was a very enjoyable repair! I wasn't able to test it with the power supply though. Is that working as well? BTW- Thank you!
Doug you are welcome! The ds5 works perfectly with it. I'm going to get another 370 head and run this guy as true stereo through my acoustic 371 for the bass side and the 4x8/2x12 rig for the treble. Honestly Doug I reached out to Alembic directly for YEARS without any response. You did it. Al, I got a stereo Y-cord as well; sounds amazing without the ds5 aswell! Thank you Doug and Nick!,,
@@TheJbertolino Thats awesome! Your very welcome!
Thank you for treating my dulcimer so well AND so fast! Her name is ‘Mazi’ (for Amazing because she is) Great job!~Carolyn
You so very welcome! Thank you for your business! Mazi. Perfect name! It was a joy to work on!
The most attractive dulcimer I've ever seen! I fell in love with this instrument when I randomly picked one up in a music shop while waiting for someone. It's very easy to get a tune out of if you've alreayu got any familiarity with the guitar (or bass guitarr in my case) and sounds surprisingly rich in tone.
Couldn't agree more!
Artwork that’s a beautiful instrument. In very good hands .😊
Thank you very much!
Dear God why!
DIY- save money right?
Well done.
thanks Luke!
Sweet bro!!
🤙Joey!
Koa is gorgeous wood and that dulcimer sings beautifully . I'm really digging your channel.
It really is. I have some stashed away I hope to use someday!
Sounds sort of like a sitar.
Or like bagpipes for string players :)
Thanks for your fantastic restoration! You are a master!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
I love it. You got the camera right in there good so we could see the fret ends , good job.
Thanks!
Wow, turned out really well. Nice little jam at the end, too.
Thank you! Cheers!
I use think twoodfrd was good but you are craftsman you do beautiful work and I can tell you enjoy it,
Thank you very much!
Fat bottom girls make the rockin world go round!🤘🎸
LOL!
I would have given up when i saw the wiring, that was intense like heart surgery, lovely job!
No fear! Just fix! :)
5am viewing!
Your a sick man.... LOL!
You do good work thanks
Much appreciated
Yes I know what I’m waking up to watch!!
You asked for it....You got it brother!
Cool.. Love that guitar.. thanks for sharing Boss,
Thanks for watching!
Awesome amount of love and knowledge you put into a beautiful instrument
Thank you kindly! I did have a soft spot for the poor thing.
Nice work as usual. R is "rhythm", and I believe S is "solo". I have seen a few of these old Japanese guitars, and IIRC, the pickups will be wired in series, (but won't hum cancel), and the switches simply short the coils to switch them off. The R/S switch will have a cap wired in series when set to R, and shorted in S position. IOW, the R is basically a passive bass cut.
You are right!
@@dougmaccormack9485 the rhythm setting is pretty useless IMO. I've got a diagram to have that s/r switch rewired as series parallel. Although that is for master vol and tone. Not sure how you'd do it with VTVT... I love these quirky old "pre lawsuit" (I made that up) Japanese models. They can be a challenge to fettle tho.
I love the old weirdo's, the guitar that is, not you Doug.
I'm old?
I like the look of that guitar and the body shape is sweet.
It's got that Burn's Bison vibe, doesn't it?
Its not about making the best guitars rock again, it's about making all of them rock again! Great job!👍👍👍🎸
You got that right!
I love how you can tell it’s going to be a great player when it doesn’t even have strings on it nice to see so much care put into a guitar like that
It's all about the neck. It's where the rubber hits the road.
Please turn off the music when you're talking. It's hard to hear what you're saying.
I'll be doing a remix for sure!
Yes love it ! Give it the magic touch!😅
The pickups are a bit wimpy. I'd love to rewind them HOT!
You are masterful craftsman wonderful job .I would be speechless see that result I tip my hat to you sir
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Nice Job. What size drill bit did you use for the bridge pins?
3/16 then fine tuned them with a peg hole reamer.
Thanks. I glued up a bridge like this one (but worse-Old Silvertone) so the holes are distorted. I have a poor selection of mismatched bridge pins I want to use, and assume the fit should be just snug. I think they are what cracked the bridge in the first place.
The really good ones make it appear easy. I wish I had a Doug in my area.
What area are you in? I might know someone...
@@dougmaccormack9485 I am close to KC Doug.
Yes the master at his craft!
;)
Great job Doug.
Thanks!
One of the very few luthiers that lift the sanding block when sanding the fretboard. Many have no idea how important that is. Thanks for the great content!!
Thank you! your welcome!
Put strips of tape down the sides of the fretboard before taping the individual frets. Makes removal of the tape a lot easier.
Interesting you mention that. I know of that tip but always forget to do it but I did do it today! Then I read this message. Yes it speeds things up considerably!
Great stuff from the master himself ❤️
Thanks for the Dremel bits!
Most welcome sir😊
You rock!!!!!!
No you rock!
Absolutely amazing ! Fantastic job !
Thank you very much!
work of art...surprised its in for work
It didn't need much. Just the strap button and a general checkup, restring.
And as every year that passes Alembic decides to add another zero to the end of the price of the basses and guitars that they build !! By the time the founders are dead an Alembic will cost billions of dollars !
Right?!
You could eat out of that control cavity. Beautiful thing.
The trimpots are for level setting of the pickups and hum cancelling dummy coil. Interesting to get a good look at the insides of the bass. Thanks for the video! I had a Turner Electroline 5 string fretless, fantastic instrument, very good sounding piezo pickup. Oh, and I think you are right, this is a pretty early one, complete instrument anyway, they started with adding electronics to hollowbody basses. Don't think they adopted the series 1 and 2 as well as signature nomenclature at that time yet.
Yes. Phil Lesh's modified Guild Starfire "Big Brown". I had a turner in the shop a couple years ago. A "Renaissance" I believe.
Doug, You're a great craftsman/artist. I am learning a lot from your videos.
That makes me happy! It's whole reason I'm started this channel! To "pass it on".
fantastic job Doug.
Thank you kindly
Definitely a lot of drugs being consumed during the building of that bass 😆
LOL!
It was cool to see the Allen-Bradley potentiometers in this bass, I have been an A-B (Rockwell) employee for 28 of their 121 years.
Wow! That's a long time! I worked at Daddy's Junky Music for 30 years!
Good Day. What a wonderful work of musical art. I've wondered about Alembic for years, then I found this. So interesting, educational and well presented. Thank You So Much & Best Regards. I just subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I do wish you’d spoken more about the instrument and spent less time putting screws in - you pointed out some trim pots, what’re they for? The noise reducing dummy coil between the pickups? Shame.
Yes I know. I did record more about the electronics but I accidently deleted the footage. My apologies. I had to make due with what I had.
I wish you could elaborate more on the built and electronics. those four micro pots in the back got me curious.
@dougmaccormack9485 • 1 second ago I did record more about the electronics but I accidently deleted the footage whilst clearing my phone memory. My apologies. I had to make due with what I had.
