"I don't trust them to make a real remake"
I 100% agree! Base World was the best game I’ve played in the series out of MH1, MHF2, Tri, TriU, World, and Iceborne. The flashy anime fast paced attacks added in Iceborne disrupted the tight weighty combat of World and the clutch claw was horrible! We do really need those breaks in the action to allow for immersion and preparation before the hunt while tracking and when the monster leaves the area. The contrast between high adrenaline focused combat and peaceful nature exploration is necessary to bring out the best of MH. This is also why the whole peaceful hub village vs threatening hunt / expedition dynamic works well.
I wrote a lengthy comment about design choices and immersion but it seems to be gone. Not sure if that's a youtube thing or if it was intentionally removed, kind of curious.
Aha! It happened again when I commented on a different video by another creator. When I made a really short comment it posted and I can see it, but when I made a long detailed comment it disappeared when I refreshed the page. I wonder if the longer comments are triggering some kind of automatic youtube comment moderation thing that the shorter comments aren't.
At this point I don't believe we're ever going to see a new Monster Hunter release move to the left of World on this scale. At least not from Capcom. They will continue chasing mainstream success and who can blame them for it? My biggest hope is that there are talented indie developers who are inspired by slower Monster Hunter and want to offer an alternative for a more niche audience. A handful of MH-Likes already exist out there but from what I've experienced they're even more arcadey 'Monster Fighter' than modern MH is currently. I wanna see one that goes in the opposite direction, maybe even towards a simulation type experience. That would be my dream MH game.
What Wilds is missing is an undiscovered map without any visible monsters. It should be you adventuring in an unknown area discovering ??? tracks that lead you to an empty nest. Only during the storm would there be a rare Rey Dau.
Glad to see how many people are waking up and that the videos are getting alot of traction. It's the only way we'll get Nintendo to really make an effort next time
Remove all counters from LS, give them to lance. More counters for lance. Remove spirit gauge from LS, give it to lance. Call it "Knight gauge".
Love this comment 😂 no more samurai weebs, we need knight nobility supremacy!
maybe the "portable" title for gen 6 will not be a faster version of the current gen like rise oder GU but a slower, more methodical "clunkier" version... i get that this defeats the purpose that "portable" titles had in monster hunter, one can only dream
There is no going left, only right I am afraid.
Silent hill games clunkyness is a great example of slow but immersive
for me peak monster hunter would be world but they fleshed out the hunting mechanics made the maps a bit bigger and brought back some cool features from the old old games ! more palico stuff i think would make lots of people happy no one hated prowler mode i didnt use ti but i thought it was cool ! monsters in the newer games are just not scary any more hunters are now the monsters! we will never see a true mon hun world 2 the team never look backwards they say it themselves!
I agree, you need variety in gameplay. We are heading in the direction of MH Rise with the main series it seems, which is bad. There is a cutscene/video of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, which encapsulates the feeling of the old old Monster Hunter games. In it, you can see the Hunter working for his armor, collecting ore and so on. I never, since MH Freedom Unite, got that feeling of climbing a mountain site or a volcano to mine super rare ore so I can finish an armor or weapon. Don’t get me started on rusted weapons 😂
thats funny, because me and my friends said that a mix of MH4U and World should be the next game.
i don't understand why it's even a question why longsword is the most popular weapon. it just looks cool. look at the longsword and then look at something like the lance and ask yourself why people wouldn't want to stand there in front of the mosnter and keep poking and doing nothing else.
I am a World baby but I have gone back to play a lot of them (GU,4U,Dos,FU,3U, even Frontier up to the Zeniths). I love all of them (to varying degrees) so I have absolutely no idea what I want from a Monster Hunter game anymore and I'm just here for the ride.
Can we stop calling supporting a game, "live service"
growing up with 3U i do miss running around looking for the monster the first time hunting it and farming for materials or in the open
one man's opinion i guess, you like the older games then good for you, but just like MH games are evolving the targeted audience is too, Wilds is their biggest game and the public for it is 10 times bigger than before, they have to adapt the series to a wider audience and thus the gameplay is evolving. i started MH with World as well, i'm a fiver just like many other, but unlike you i understand that the series isn't niche anymore. Wilds is fantastic and i love every single part of it.
It is pretty funny how Wilds does feel like a World 2 though
So where is world?
Bro, stop crying and just play 5 already. (Fucking dante gun bra lover)
Ratatoskr is aso retarded and out of touch its insane
I want an optimized game, that's all i ask for. But boy this is such a tall order for japanese devs these days -_-
Bro gets it
I agree with everything you said in this video. Literally had the exact same thought bfore with "just a tiny bit slower than world"
for me I have a range of what an ideal MH speed would be from slightly slower than world, brutal and you need to use your brain and resources wisely to success (like the example you have with gypceros) to wilds speed so between 4.7 to 5.5 in the scale of speed world was in 5 and I really enjoyed the speed of everything, slow and methodical compared to other games but still action packed wilds went more to the action packed side but still methodical and maybe the next MH will move to immersive methodical side
3:20:45 this was was insanely frustrating to watch lmao. Ruri: “I realized you would have to upgrade your GPU every 3 years otherwise… *pauses video and rants about having to upgrade every 3 years for like 2 minutes before unpausing* …you’ll have to start lowering some settings” You paused in the middle of his sentence and completely misunderstood his point. He isn’t saying you need to upgrade every 3 years to get good performance, he’s saying 3 years is the point where you’ll need to start lowering setting. Start playing on all high 4k60 instead of all ultra 4K60. Later on you said you want your computer to last 8 years. It totally can do that, but by the end of those 8 years you’re gonna be playing the newest games on pretty low settings. You don’t need to upgrade every 3, 4, or even 5 years, but you will have to start conceding settings as time passes. That was his point.
I think the old games captured a very special charm, and that charm died with world. I think the new games are fantastic, I have more hours in world than any other however I think they are struggling to capture that old charm. For me my ideal monster hunter game would have emphasis on the preparation phase in town, and have a clear distinction between village and wilderness. (I think you can do this in an open world btw) I think we remove campsites and fast travel, I think we get rid of being able to change equipment at the base camp, I think we keep the mount but don’t allow you to do EVERYTHING from its back. Get rid of the handler following you everywhere, and honestly.. I think that’s it, I don’t mind unlimited whetstones and the faster gathering. Oh also just bring back paintballs, maybe allow tracking with finding the footprints and markings, but make the scout flies lose the scent faster, and eventually the hunt is too fresh and you need paintballs maybe? Or just generally make tracks somewhat unreliable to incentivize paintballs, and you could even do things like have smarter monsters covering tracks or marking things to send false trails as they flee so if you don’t paintball and lose it the scout flies become more and more unreliable as the hunt goes on? But idk I personally love the new game feel overall, I just miss the considerations you’d take before a hunt, and commiting to the hunt, and I miss being able to lose the monster. I also miss how quiet the game was when you weren’t in a hunt, and I miss the dramatic sound effects for being spotted, how aggressive every monster was when you were spotted, and just the core sound design of the older games was better imo.
Long sword is way easier than the players who main make it to be. Not because of what i heard, but because i played a whole lot of fighting games and i know what 45f of s on foresight slash means. Most people don't. I could respect the effort people say goes to knowing the monster if it was like 15 or even 20. But 45 is an eternity, you really don't need to study the monster a whole lot for that And its ok to for weapons to be easier or harder btw. Fighting games also have huge differences in character difficulties anyway
i hate the chat experience 😭 i was talking to some random guy who said the early game is too easy
Right like that’s the point! Especially if you’re already experienced!
I'm so happy that you feel exactly like I feel....well, not that happy... started with FU, I would love to have the slow deliberate movement back with the modern touch of gathering...but... unfortunately, we have what we have...and that's sad for me! Keep up the amazing discussions about what we actually love about a game that grabbed us by the balls
4U is old? People who started with Tri are babies to me.
Gypceros reveal when? if it isn't in the start or midgame, it's gotta be the final boss.
i like this idea
I feel like you should try out games like The Long Dark or an actual hunting game or something. Honestly… yeah, just try the survival mode of The Long Dark. I feel like you would like that type of gameplay Edit: you didn’t really track monsters in the old games tho. You wandered until you found them, and then you learned where they’d spawn the more you fought them. World had actual tracking, even if it was in your face with it with the scout flies. If you took that system, removed the flies, then you’d have actual tracking. This is why I suggest The Long Dark- you clearly just want a survival game, you just don’t know that’s what you want. Or rather, you want Monster Hunter: Survivor
its still a weak system. in world without flies even, you would just walk up to a patch of scales or fur and pick it up.
I really value tracking and other immersive elements that slow things down by adding friction to the world. Would love to get the big open world of Wilds and the more organic questing system, more complex monster behavior, and new systems like rot but without losing those frictional, immersive elements. Seems especially a shame not to have to do tracking when you’ve got a big open world. What’s to get the player to even engage with the environment?
Well for me, the immersive elements come in with how monsters the the player interacts with the environment (the player using environmental traps, being able to grab stuff for your slinger on the fly, monsters making their own hazards in their arena, turf wars). Some of these have aspects in previous games, but both wilds and world have a significantly clearer emphasis on environmental interactions on the moment as opposed to prep work
Why is this feeling like another 'happy for you' moment?
i fell in love playing 3U and 4U solidified my adoration i like how the series has streamlined its gameplay for a wider fanbase but i do wish theyd tone it back a little, world hit that perfect sweetspot of ecology and gameplay
How do you become a member of?
"Lil bro was born in 2019" type perspective
Your ideal line is basically where GU was
That's what I was gonna comment 😂
GU is not a fully realized Monster Hunter experience. It's an anniversary title, designed with the sole purpose of letting you fight as many monsters as possible, even if they are butchered in the process (Lagiacrus 😭)
Since he didn't like Rise, Im positive he wouldn't like GU, its just swathes and swathes of simply content after content, and many of it simply repetitions of the same exact content, even within the same ranks, and additionally its lacking in any of the world building immersion that he genuinely enjoyed playing through 4U. On top of this he was VERY adamant about not liking counter based gameplay and movesets that allowed you to have one button, free out of jail abilities (valor absorb, adept dodge, absolute evasion, counters, etc). Just for example he literally raved about how much he enjoyed the the missions in dundorma and building the village up over time, and then seeing the culmination of the effect of the quests give way to actual usage in-mission with the final village urgent allowing you to actually use all the items you spent time building throughout the quests in the campaign, like the moving cannon machine, rebuilding the weapons defense mechanisms like the dragonator, and then obtaining the dense marcoal to fire the giant dragon cannon etc. Its all the small immersive stuff like this that he massively enjoyed, and practically NONE of this stuff is present in GU.
GU is basically 4th gen Rise. Its fast flashy and safe. It's also incredibly easy until hypers and deviants. He would not like it
Even though I've only played world and the beta for Wilds, I would have loved to see a more harcore version of the hunting with the quality of life of world.
Unpopular opinion, japanese cats sound just as if not more cringe. Even if they sounded good, I would default to the cat sounds anyways
Old monster hunter. 4U It’s funny.
You would NOT beat Zenith Gasurabazura
This is going to be their biggest commercial success so theyre trying to appeal to a more mainstream audience. Faster combat, less commitment, more reactive gameplay, they've said as much. Personally I think they went too far with focus mode, it feels too easy and cheap to just aim a spot and deal a huge chunk of the monsters HP for free essentially.
Extremism has become so pervasive in all subjects of discourse. Longsword is either broken or weak, GPUs are either top of the line or budget, games are either perfect or terrible. I'm just so done with it all.
Well said.
Uhh how done😅? Like you good right?
but think long sword broken because monster gonna get harder is really bullshit i see some comment on that video that is just cope like rata old vide, mhrise gonna harder than world
@@fishman21-f5b It does to some extend tho. Primal Malzeno was the craziest a main series monster get. Only that he has way less HP than Fatalis/Alatreon relatively, and the normal version has much weaker damage too.
Yeah my issue is that every release has either responses of blind optimism or excessive dooming. It makes it really hard to be excited about something but also a bit critical of what you enjoy
There is a problem for me in this assesment, two seperate factors here are being grouped in as one: speed of combat and needed prep/quality of life. There is nothing stopping a game as fast as rise needing you to harvest and prepare and track the monster the way you did in the preveous titles, thats probably what i would prefer.
This exactly. Give me slightly fater than world combat with the archaic tracking and material gathering.
Honestly I still prefer world's combat over rise. Everything just felt nice and weighty, and swings feeling consequential.
Another mistake in his video is that at the end of the game, every game is at the right side of the screen. Even 4, even earlier in 4, they start on they left side but they always go right to the right side towards the end. Which means he literally cannot get his game because of game progression
I don't think he ever tried to argue that a fast game can't have old gathering, he just wants both a slow game (slightly slower than world) and a game with older gathering, so this isn't contradicting that specific argument, it's against the other one, which is that slower is better for monster hunter. Also I prefer fast combat in games in general, but I agree with this one, Monster Hunter was designed for you to have to plan your attacks.
@@thechugg4372 Except he believes that this is not true, as this is a separate statement
Strongly agree. While I love a lot of the QoL changes that World brought to MH, there was a part of me that learned to love the slow parts of 4U, which made the hunts feel more engaging and rewarding. I hope Capcom learns to dials things back. I don't need all QoL changes reverted, and have everything be super intentionally clunky and whatnot, but what I do want is a more polished and modernized version of some of the things that were already good in 4U.
Hunting aspect nerfed is one of the things I'm sad about in wilds. I can accept an owl scouting because it can fly and transmit info in real time but a seikret, a ground based animal, knowing everything aleady feels weird.
pretty sure the way theyre handling it is u track it world style once and then after that the seikret has 'learned its scent' or smth and thats why it can be seen on the map
I've decided to skip Wilds, personally. I'm a greatsword main and the moment I got to test it on the barrel dummy I knew it wasn't going to be the gameplay I learned to love even when it's just me and the monster, ignoring all the gathering tracking and crafting aspects. Focus mode is overpowered, especially for a weapon that was always balanced for its commitment like greatsword; they know it, it's why TCS damage had to be nerfed. Fundamentally the core gameplay is just too different. I might play portable 6 if they drop focus mode in favor of a different gimmick.
