I'm glad you mentioned Millicent's dialogue. Not a lot of people talk about it. She had to effectively give her will over to the rot god in order to combat Radahn.
@@davidpower5710 Because the lore states it. "Locked in stalemate" is not interpretable any other way. Neither Malenia nor Radahn were able to come out as the victor of the battle. They were equals. "There is something I must return to Malenia. The will that was once her own. The dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot. The pride she abandoned, to meet Radahn's measure." - Millicent And there is no other way to interpret 'meeting Radahn's measure,' so clearly we have different accounts from the lore.
I have a small theory, maybe the reason why Malenia attacks us is because she doesn't have her pride and sense of self, millicent says they she has to return malenias dignity her pride and sense of select which is Millicent herself that she abandoned to meet radhans measure. and of course millicent was able todo this at the end of her quest line.
No you’re a tarnished and is explicitly known by everyone for why you are here. To kill the demigods, get great runes and become Elden Lord. “Follow the path that has been set for you, and you will make enemies of all others: the monks, the sorcerers, the ancient dragon knights, and the scions of gold. Heed me - the Lands Between offers no welcome to the Tarnished.” They know why you are here “A lowly Tarnished, playing as a lord. I command thee, kneel! I am the lord of all that is golden!” And so those she. Why would she think you’re he for? Cookies and Cream?
Prime Radahn is an absolute animal. Malenia was clearly defeated in their fight, she basically had to Isaac Netero herself and not only she didn't even kill him, he was still able to fight us and an entire army of insanely strong NPCs who knows how many years later. Lore wise I think only Morgott, Maliketh and Radagon (and maybe Godfrey) might be able to defeat him. Nobody else comes even remotely close.
Malenia needed to kill Radahn to get the stars moving, for the Eclipse to happen, and to continue Miquellas plans. So, (probably on his behest) she marched down South to make him move the stars again. She didn't care for power or territory (she let Godrick live whom she could have just snacked to the way there). But Radahn (the prick) didn't let the stars resume their course, because he was too stubborn in maintaining the status quo. So Malenia (if she wanted Miquella to succed) needed Radahn dead, nothing less would suffice. The text tells us that Malenia and Radahn fought to a standstill, both evenly matched, neither being able to kill the other. But Malenia needed Radahn to die, so in her desperation she unlocked the Power of the Godess of Rot, whom she has fought her entire life to keep locked away. Her entire life, the Rot wanted to take over her body and turn everything into a Caelid, but Malenia fought against that building and solidifying her own identity as the most badass of swordstresses and Miquella's Blade to keep control over herself against the Scarled Rot. But that pride, which was her lifeline to keep the Rot at bay, she abandoned in the fight against Radahn in the hopes she could kill him that way. Tragically she didn't even succeed at that while giving up herself.
@@pkaramazov89 The stars command the fate of the lands between both literally and figuratively. Meteors crashing down often change the landscape and course of history of the Lands between (the meteor after Radahns death allowing access to Nokron and ultimately Rannis' ending; the Elden Beast with the Elden Ring itself came to the Lands between on a meteor). The Amber Starlight Shard says that the stars both command the fate of men and (demi-)gods. What Radahn is effectively doing is to keep the Lands Between in Stasis, not allowing fate/history to progress. Now Miquella had many plans from curing Malenias Scarlet Rot, to creating a new Erdtree with the Haligtree, to giving Godwyn a proper death to whatever he wants to do in the DLC. While Sellen says that the stars hold the fate of the Carian Royal Family in particular, I don't think it is a stretch to extend this to all the demigods and the Lands Between as a whole, and also to Miquella. Basically he couldn't proceed with anything until the stars moved freely again. This is supported by the fact, that (explicitly for story related reasons) we have to kill Radahn to enter the DLC, presumably to allow anything that Miquella wants to do there to be possible of happening in the first place. The most concrete evidence that radahn was stopping Miquellas plans is the Eclipse. The people of Castle Sol are all about this Eclipse (which is of course a celestial event) that would bring back a fallen comrade of Miquella, which is presumably Godwyn, whom we know Miquella wants to give a proper death. But of course an Eclipse is literally impossible without the stars moving.
@@ETBrooD I overblew that with little evidence, sorry. I edited it out. I kind of took that from Square Table Gamings Video on the Cleanrot Knights. Even though I am very much pro-Radahn, the battle was indeed a draw. They both 'locked horns' in combat, thus they were in a stalemate. It wasn't until the power of an outer god was unleashed that the stalemate was broken, leaving both Radahn and Malenia permanently scarred from the fight and condemning the entire region of Calied to rot.
Malenia uses power of an outer god abandoning all of her covictions nukes a whole region then becomes comatose Radahn lives albiet loses his mind but never abandons his duty until both a done in by the same person and true lord our character
Miquella manipulated Malenia to go fight Radahn in an attempt to get the stars moving again so his fate could be set free. While likely also manipulating Mohg to come get his body so he could enter the Land of Shadows. As for Radahn vs Malenia, it was a draw. Malenia wasn't in her right mind, and Radahn had already taken damage. Radahn was the strongest, and would likely have won a straight up max power 1v1. He couldn't handle the god of rot though and lost his mind to her bloom. Which losing his mind to me is an L considering Malenia lost nothing from that fight. Technically speaking however he lived so it's a draw. Neither won nor lost.
Why would he need to manipulate her sister to fight for him. She calls her the Blade of Miquella. He mans their army. She trusts him that he knows what he’s doing. There literally no reason to think that. God you “Miquella’s evil” guy will always do insane mental gymnastics to make anything he does malicious whether it makes sense.
You call that a win? Radahn is a broken man after this battle. He fought Malenia to a standstill, and it was a stalemate. There was no victor. Anyone who thinks Malenia or Radahn was the victor in this war is delusional.
Rata sorry but are you purposely being obtuse? Radahn waited for Malenia to put her arm back on. Yes. But did you literally not see her wait like 10 seconds for Radahn to take his swords out the ground and fucking power up? She looked wounded sure. But Radahn was also wounds with spears LIKE YOU SAID. AND when Malenia jumps on top of Radahn he looks like a scared cat, not understanding wtf is even happening. How do you let Malenia get on top of you?
I hate Radahn. He is my least favorite of the demigods. IDK his exact deal and motivations, but I am convinced he is mostly being selfish. I think he is childish. I think the reasons that people love him are actually all of his biggest character flaws. Ive worked alot with animals. horse abuse is rampant and even celebrated with things like horse racing. So what I see when looking at Radahn and his horse is different than most people. I worked in dog sled racing and I know that some of the worst offenders are the most celebrated. People talk about how loved and well cared for the racing dogs are and its just not the reality. you see the dogs worn and exhausted unable to keep running left behind at checkpoints and talk about how loved they are pushed to their very mental and physical limits. IDK if thats what they are trying to tell us with Radahn. But we do see the condition leonard is in. I think there is alot of room for this interpretation that his love his harmful to those around him. I think everything points to Radahn being fearful of change and childishly stubborn.
@@cyberninjazero5659 theres not really a version of it i think is okay. he is clearly an irresponsible horse owner. you know animal hoarders are often attached to the animals. they hoard them and keep them in awful conditions out of a misguided affection. its a very common story in animal abuse cases. i mean even if we imagine leonard is a magical talking horse and literally said outloud he swears loyalty to radahn this is still really gross.
Malenia knocked herself out with her own ability so hard and so long that Finely carried her FROM CAELID TO THE HALIGTREE, all while fighting/avoiding enemies. In a double knockout, the person who gets up first wins. Without outside interference. Radhan would've just stomped her while she was out. Never known defeat, more like never took off that Cap
You forgot to mention Raddan also fought while holding back the stars. Honestly I always thought Millicents dialog was pretty straight forward. Back in the shattering Raddan was by far the strongest, and the only reason he didn't handily win is because Melania asploded herself. She avoided losing, but I can't exactly say she won.
All I'm hearin is that malenia was holding herself back from becoming the goddess of rot the whole time while radahn made use of his full capabilities. And don't tell me "he was holding up the stars the whole time" because nothing in the game ever suggests that he was weakened by that. He probably just got so good at gravity magic that he could halt the stars and that was that until he decided to let them move again
I think it was a tie but Malenia is blind, has lost her right arm, left leg and lower right leg, is in constant physical pain and psychological turmoil trying to keep the rot at bay. I think if anyone deserves the win it's her. Radahn is a beast and the likely winner in a 1v1 but he's fighting a crippled woman who can't even see and has lost most limbs. That's not very impressive to me. Maybe he's also nerfed but I don't think we actually know whether him stopping the stars is a constant effort or a one time thing. If it's the former I'd say they're more equal but given that he does this even when driven to madness I tend to think it's not a constant effort.
@@ETBrooDThe lore also says she was knocked out for so long that she got dragged back to the Haligtre unconscious. From Caelid. To. The Haligtree. Unconscious. Nah, if Finely wasn't there, Radhan would've just stomped her when he woke up

@@cyberninjazero5659 Malenia can still fight after the battle is over. So can Radahn. So neither one fell in combat. Likewise Malenia had to withdraw from the battle, and Radahn had to resort to eating corpses to stay alive. They're both messed up and neither of them won.
Apart from just everything telling you it's a draw, I always interpreted Millicent's words as Malenia recognizing that having a endlessly drawn out battle is kind of pointless. Since they are of comparable strength. So Malenia used her last measure. I didn't think you would let yourself get that low. Why is it such a huge problem that both characters are badass? Is it really just because this game is so much more popular that people refuse to have nuanced opinions on a game with nuanced characters like with other Fromsoft games? I don't even get it. The only people I see having problems with a draw are fans of Radahn. If he isn't badass enough for you because of a draw and surviving scarlet rot that just seems childish.
The issue is that you’re looking at this with logic and with the intent to understand both characters and their motivations. THEY are fanboys that want their favorite action figure to be the best at all cost. Interpretation that way would be inconvenient to the agenda.
What are you even arguing about, @ratatoskr6324? Who was stronger? Who was more chivalrous? Who won? Come one, you are way more intelligent than to engage in this straw man argument. Please put this debate back into context, which you’re normally quite good at. If you’re going to interpret this fight, you need to think about the lore, the characters, and their motivations. What was Radahn fighting for? What stakes did he have in the fight? What was Malenia fighting for? What did she believe in? What did she think would happen if she lost? What was she willing to sacrifice to accomplish her mission? What was Radahn willing to sacrifice? When you consider all this (and I’m actually thinking a lot of your hero video for Radahn), Malenia was fighting for the chance to end an age of protracted suffering for everyone in the Lands Between (and especially for marginalized who had no one else to fight on their behalf), and Radahn was fighting to preserve an age that was already in the past and to uphold the golden institutions that were quite literally built on genocide and the imprisonment of entire innocent populations (if they were noble enough to not just be mutilated as babies first). I think it’s safe to assume Radahn was fighting so he could be Elden Lord, and based on your astute observations and conclusions in your hero video, we can also speculate that he wanted to win so that he would be seen as heroic as his father and Godfrey. (Which is his stepfather??? 🤷🏼♂️) This is to say that Radahn was largely fighting for Radahn. You can’t say the same for Malenia. She had opportunities to consolidate more power for herself, but she didn’t. She let Godrick keep his great rune. So, when you consider their goals and the stakes if they lost, was Malenia really crazy for using the all the power at her disposal to fight for what she believed in? For those of you who think she’s evil because she “dishonestly” nuked Caelid, please explain the difference between the dishonestly killed people and the many, many “honestly” killed people you see in the trailer. The other moral question is were but for Marika’s Golden Order and the removal of death and decay from the laws of the universe, would scarlet rot even be a thing? Would it be better to just keep trying to wall of scarlet rot? Or should balance be restored so that an unpleasant but necessary part of life is able to play its part without becoming malignant? So who won? Neither of them! Malenia failed her brother and did not restore the movement of the stars. Radahn did not become Elden Lord. He underestimated his opponent and chose to look heroic instead of eliminating his enemy when he had the chance. Who was stronger? Radahn, obviously! But how does that even matter when he threw the fight like it was just a 1:1 PVP dual? It was actually a war that had already killed countless people! You’re honestly going to say that Malenia was crazy, villainous, and “dishonest” because she did the equivalent of drinking a red flask in a dual? That if only she had more “honest,” then Radahn would not have been cheated from his W? If you read this far, thank you. I hope we can have a more interesting discussion on this part of the lore than to have more of the whole genderized “strength vs dex” debate or whatever emotional confirmation bias thing that always happens in this topic.

That's supposed to be the beginning of their fight, with Malenia recognizing Radahn as another enemy to kill (i.e., she hadn't seen him before this). She had already been wounded before fighting him. One of From's animation supervisors says as much in Vol 286 of the Japanese magazine CGWorld. “The scene of “Miquella’s Blade, Malenia” facing off with “Starsmasher Radahn” was given detailed direction from the time Malenia recognizes/becomes aware of Radahn and stands until she attacks and it cuts. “When she faces off against Radahn, Malenia is already black-and-blue-head-to-toe, but when she recognizes an enemy she rises once more. "There is something I must return to Malenia. The will that was once her own. The dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlet rot. The pride she abandoned, to meet Radahn's measure." - Millicent
And there is no other way to interpret 'meeting Radahn's measure,' so clearly we have different accounts from the lore.
I have a good feeling about how this video will age.
AGENDA PIECE MENTIONED
Heed me - the Lands Between offers no welcome to the Tarnished.”
They know why you are here
“A lowly Tarnished, playing as a lord. I command thee, kneel! I am the lord of all that is golden!”
And so those she.
Where does it say that the Cleanrot Knights won the war?
And why is important to get the stars moving? (What eclipse?)
Brooo malenia simps in shambles after dlc
Balanced take, nice
Malenia uses power of an outer god abandoning all of her covictions nukes a whole region then becomes comatose
Radahn lives albiet loses his mind but never abandons his duty until both a done in by the same person and true lord our character

All I'm hearin is that malenia was holding herself back from becoming the goddess of rot the whole time while radahn made use of his full capabilities.

As far as i know if you're knocked unconscious in a fight and your opponent is still standing, you fucking lost.
Yeah but your talking about radahn being injured....malenia was BORN with disability. Still whooped his ass.
Yah, why are we praising Radahn for picking a fight with a disabled person?
@@WebxhedRadahn didn’t pick a fight with her. She approached him.
If self destructing is considered “whooping his ass,” then OK you can have that.

Instead of killing the threat, he let this enemy completely decimate an whole area, plenty of his soldiers, and made himself into walking zombie eating his own men with the ONLY reason he’s alive is his Great Rune. What a great general.” This is what you guys are really saying. This war not a tournament arc from a manga.
Just like Isshin says “Hesitate and you lose. That is the way of war.”
You guys just called him incompetent general.
Dude, Isshin reference. Amazing.
Nuh uh
"ONLY reason he's alive is his great rune"
Nice head canon rotsimp. Now explain the horse
@@cyberninjazero5659 Radahn fans ability to understand the lore? Impossible.
“A Great Rune of the shardbearer Radahn. Its blessing raises maximum HP, FP and Stamina.
Radahn was amongst the children of Rennala and Radagon, who became demigod stepchildren after Radagon's union with Queen Marika.
*The Great Rune burns, to resist the encroachment of the scarlet rot.”*
Radahn should have been scaled to that of a late game boss. He's built up as the mightiest of the demigods even after his affliction with scarlet rot but he's a total pushover if you go to Altus at all before facing him. Dragonbarrow, the area literally bordering his arena, is scaled dramatically more intensely than that of the rest of Caelid proving they aren't afraid of having differing level scaling in bordering areas.
"but what about prepatch Radahn" - He was still not that powerful then, everyone was just bad and literally face tanking his 30 second phase transition. The 50 ft tall guy with equally massive twin ultra greatswords and the power of gravity magic should be near one oneshotting my bozo lvl 60 tarnished of no renown.
Prepatch Radahn was even that much harder in legitimate terms, his hotboxes were just actually broken.
The second patch to him returned his difficulty without the weird hitbox issues, people who to this day talk about "prepatch Radahn" are just coping
MALENIA DID NOTHING WRONG
Rot simp spotted
malenia so weak
She’s quite literally one the most strongest demigod/ character in the game 😂
