Tongan Tuesday! How to Make Ngoua. Part 1

Recipe:
5 - 14oz packs for Tapioca flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of nutmeg
About 13 1/2 cups of Blended boiled spinach (you can also add more or less based on the color you want. But traditionally it is a dark green color.
1 cup of water

    I noticed you put 2 pkg of dried yeast and a couple tablespoons of baking powder. Is that necessary? Samoan pagikeke, we only used baking powder. Maybe we were doing it wrong the whole time. Just wanted to know.😊

      Hello, Yes you can pretty much swap the spinach for anything. I would say the taste may not come out a strong pumpkin taste so you can add some additional pumpkin flavoring.

    So let it rest for 15 mins? Can it be up to an hour or until the dough has risen? I can’t wait to try this recipe! My mother in law is tongan and makes them so good and perfectly round all of the time but im too lazy to drive to her house to learn lol.

      The minimum rest time is 15 minutes. You can let it rest for an hour. It should almost double in size. Lol I get that , it took me years before I was interested in asking my mom.

    IFO! I remember having this back in Tonga when I was little. I haven't had any since and I am craving for some. I called my mama back in Tonga asking her how to make it. She told me to go on UA-cam. 😅 Is not that she doesn't know how to make it. Is too much to explain over the phone.

    Thank you! We used Lu leaves instead of spinach for ours. I know it's expensive if you live in a non-tropic area, but if you can fork out the extra dollars, it's definitely worth it! Plus it's the old way to make ngou'a

      @@meliamedaverman3558 if you live in an area full of Polys like California, Arizona, Utah or Texas, you can buy it from any Asian or islander market. Otherwise, we depend on family back home to send us some by mail or when they come to visit.
