- Thanks for watching my mom and I make Tongan Keke.
I have been wanting to do this for a while so I finally was able to film it Father’s Day weekend.
I mostly wanted to film this as a reminder to myself on how to make these.
This will be one for the memory books.
If you are from the Bay you mostly likely have had my mom bomb banana cakes with frosting
If you have your own version from the Polynesian culture of this recipe. Share it!
Ingredients:
5 cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
3 teaspoons of baking powder
2 packets of yeast (each packet constrains about 2 teaspoons)
16fl oz of half and half and enough hot water to make the half and half warm
Vegetable oil for frying
**optional: 2 smashed up ripen bananas
Thank you. I love this mother n daughter video. I used to make this growing up in tonga. But it has been long time ago, so I checked here for the recipe.
thanks for watching !
The best video on how to make keke i'site, malo.
Mum has the magic touch hahaha
Love this. My husband and I express our appreciation for your help in making keke isite.
That hand gesture to getting the right form of keke isn’t so hard. It just takes countless times watching my Mum do it lols I’m glad I had the chance to learn these things that my Mother was taught in the islands. After her passing it was so difficult for me to get back in the kitchen making the delicious foods she use to make., but in the end I can proudly teach my Children how to make keke isite (using that hand technique lol) There’s no love like Our Mothers LOVE, ofa atu to all Mamas out here xo
Such a blessing you were able to learn and now pass it down to your kids. My main reason for trying to learn our different dishes to teach my kids. Definitely no love like our mothers .
You are doing well just few steps and is done but learnong from the expert is more valuable so cute you n your mum so swesome the texture we seen from here thanks for the beautiful recipe and GB

❤️❤️ Malo for watching. Definitely still blessed to be able to learn from my mom. I still suck as well lol. I tried to make the balls but mine end up coming out flat .
Thank You
So let it rest for 15 mins? Can it be up to an hour or until the dough has risen? I can’t wait to try this recipe! My mother in law is tongan and makes them so good and perfectly round all of the time but im too lazy to drive to her house to learn lol.
The minimum rest time is 15 minutes. You can let it rest for an hour. It should almost double in size. Lol I get that , it took me years before I was interested in asking my mom.
Hi, love the video and your mom’s too cute, and thank her for her recipe and showing us her hand technique..but I have a question, can you ask her why do my keke’s crack when I fry them? They aren’t as smooth as hers, is it my mixture? I think mine may be too watery, but I’ve made them 3 times and they all crack about 2 minutes in. Thanks again.
Thank you for watching! And yes I will definitely ask about the crack, so if I’m understanding correctly, your Keke cracks in the oil? Does it still maintain somewhat a circle shape?
@@MamaVee17 yeah, it’s round but there’s a crack on one side and it irks me, because it’s not round and smooth, and the side where the crack is not as soft like the uncracked side
what oil are you using here in this video?
hi if you don’t mind me asking but about how much oil did your mom use? and which exact brand of oil?
Heyyy does it still work if i use wheat flour instead??
💔👍
Thank you so much for the recipe! Do you have a ngoua recipe?
Not yet. But I will ask my mom and post a video!
Just asked my mom she has a recipe lol . I’ll be sharing it on the channel.
@@MamaVee17 super excited! I cannot wait until the vid is up....thank you.
Malo aupito e upload, what type of oil pls?
U very pretty 🔥😍👀
Malo ifo
I noticed you put 2 pkg of dried yeast and a couple tablespoons of baking powder. Is that necessary? Samoan pagikeke, we only used baking powder. Maybe we were doing it wrong the whole time. Just wanted to know.😊
