The stadium building industry is such a scam. I'm sure someone is already talking about how the replacement is "completely outdated" and "unsuitable for the intricate task of housing a grass field and giving people a place to sit." "Gimme your tax dollars or I'll move your team to Vegas."

I was in this hotel fire.....on new years eve of 2009.....I escaped that fire with only the clothes on my back.... Two folks perished that night.... Two females young and old....but blessed be to God the fire department was a block away...I was rescued from the top floor along with 4 others.... Each new years eve I say a prayer regarding that nite....here ten years later I'm alive tho the devil thought it had me....tho Detroit's my hometown and living in Kentucky.... Comerica Park resembles a giant Wok and it will never match what we had in Tiger Stadium. Our old stadium had countless quirks and intricacies and offered an intimate setting like no other ballpark. Some tried to have us believe the stadiums fault was that it was too old and it was falling apart. Just not true... if anything Tiger Stadium was over built and could easily have lasted well into the 21st century. A few tweaks here and there... And historic Tiger Stadium could have been hosting MLB games just as its sister stadium is today in Boston. So sad what we lost.

@@daleatkinson941 LOL a giant Wok. It kills me that the Stadium is gone. I see what Boston did with Fenway and what the Cubs did with Wrigley (before they turned it into a fucking casino) and they kept the charm. Even if they absolutely needed to upgrade, they could've done a better job. Look what Baltimore got when it put up a new stadium. But, we got Comerica.

Some of the greatest voices I ever heard, especially during my childhood, echoed from that announce booth: Ernie Harwell, Ray Lane, George Kell, Al Kaline, & of course, Paul Carey. May God rest the soul of these 5 fine gentlemen, & the old gal, Tiger Stadium!

God, I loved those majestic Light Towers. Watching that Light Tower fall in vain was like losing a good, loyal friend. Even worse, the jaws of destruction had to make sure the Light Tower was completely KO'd. Sure wish I had a part from one of those Light Towers for a souvenir.

It's painful to watch that senseless demolition of such a nostalgic & historical landmark. All that God forsaken $ wasted on that new ball park, could have been invested in completely restructuring, reinforcing, & refurbishing Tiger Stadium. A wholesome restoration that could have maintained the old romantic charm & same general features of the stadium with some modern updates that didn't retract from the originality of the field & stands. Will never understand the infatuation with all these cookle cutters built these past 3 decades? I know, follow the $!

Ok it was obsolete and probably crumbling in need of exorbitant repair and renovation - like Yankee Stadium - but NY built a replica Yankee Stadium. As an iconic historic ball park- a replica stadium should have been built. The single biggest mistake the Mike Illitch made in his amazing tenure in Detroit was to not insure to live on -the history and tradition of Tiger Stadium. Istead built the ANTI Tiger Stadium in Comerica Park. Complete opposite venue. If Boston or NY would have built a Comerica park they would have to tear it down and correct the mistake- but that mistake would never have happened. John Mchale who designed Comerica was all about himself- not Detroit and its history. He wanted his vision, his place so to speak. A disgrace. I read in one place in a small article, a witness said "Mike politely showed him the door" " and Mike said :he got a carte blanche and I didnt get results " Those are Mikes words.
