I have no idea why I'm watching this again. It always makes me tear up a bit. When I was a little kid, my first sports games were the Tigers here and the Wings. We need jobs in the D so we can pay to keep historical structures around and looking nice. If Alcatraz were in MI, I'd bet $50 it would have been demolished by now.
I never got to visit this ballpark but my roomie did the in September of 1999. He knew that I loved baseball and its history so much that he grabbed a bag of dirt for me. I watched as my boyhood home of the Texas Rangers went down. It was really tough. Especially since it was done primarily during the strike of 1994. I can't even begin to think what Tigers fans went through watching this place being robbed from them.
I took sand from a playground and put in a ziplock bag and sold it on e-bay for $35. Some schmuck thought he was getting dirt from the pitcher's mound. LOL
im a die hard cubs fan but this is just sad to see this good old stadium i mean this should landmark of not only the city of detroit but of the state of michigan and if this happened to wrigley i would get rely emotional cuz in 2009 wrigley and fenway will be the only two classic ballparks left i feel sorry for u tiger fans to see this happen this place should been turned into a museum or place where kids can go in and play but with security measures
Reggie Jackson struck that particular Light Tower! Going to have to locate & watch the 1971 All Star game & hopefully, see it for myself. Thank you for letting me know!

Who ever is responsible of making the decision to knock this landmark down should be prosecuted!

That's the light tower Reggie Jackson hit in the 71 All Star, at least send a piece of it to Mr. October.
