Dell sells computers with Ubuntu and provides full support with Ubuntu, not any other distro. That's why I used Ubuntu on my Dell machines, full support, no problems. Ubuntu is the kingpin.

Linux continues to have that "thrown together before lunch" look by smart hungry devs impatient to move on. Everything "kinda works" but not as smoothly as Apple apps. Android, another "linux" is the same: kinda works well enough...

"Horses for courses". You don't use a Ferrari to go off-road or a Corolla for Paris-Dakar rally or Mack semi to take the kids to school. All are excellent for their design. OSs are the same. Windows for corporate biz, Linux for general cheap computing, Android for phones, IOS for graphics and integration. These's more to life than the "OS".

Linux keeps being trash in 2024, especially for gaming. Recently the big talk is about CachyOS and how well it runs etc. Well, i thought i install it on my dated but still fully functional HP G7 Lappo, just to check it out. Nowhere, anywhere does it state this Linux OS does not work, because of old hardware or what ever reason. It just doesn't work. Can't install. And i can't use Linux on my main Desktop, because i have no full Firewall control like i have in Windows. What i can do in windows with three clicks. Everything in Linux needs at the very least 15 clicks and hold the shift button..... and when i check online how to do something. Im bombarded with Terminal copy past texts. This is just pure garbage user experience. I want to be in control which program is allowed internet access. And in Windows i get a PopUp (Comodo Firewall) that freezes the application and im asked Allow, Block access or outright Terminate the program before it can even do something. Where is this function/Thirdparty App in Linux? How do i block Windows Apps/Games when using Proton/Wine/Lutris for NonSteamGames from accessing the internet while running the program? Why do i have to bock it before i start it? I have no control over this 💩 in Linux without needing a bachelor in computer science. Im not a ffking programmer! I want to game, and i want to block 💩tty apps from connecting when they have no business in doing so! Its so easy in Windows. Why should i allow an offline calculator app etc. access to the internet!? I can tell you, i should not!! And in windows i can block it on the fly in mere seconds! Not to mention the constant "input your password" bull💩 when i want to install something from the Flatpakstore or when another update for any app is available, like every ffking day! Its so god damn annoying! My password is "1" because fck you do i like to input my god damn password every 2 hours and some more1!!11!!! Linux will never be an alternative for normal PC users. Its easier to stick to Windows and use a "deactivate all Windows 💩" third party app!

Windows most popular? Most computer users never install an OS, it comes "free" with the machine. So it's not popular, ie chosen from a number of systems tried first.

Hi kent I did all of this in the videos, but I still couldn't change the appearance of my opensuse Tumbleweed to the appearance of deepin. Would anything have changed in the last 2 years?

I use Linux mainly for the reason that I like it better than Windows, not cause it is some holy grail gateway to better privacy and security. Sure, Windows is a corporate entity and everything, but you know what also has corporate entities backed behind it collecting data? LINUX! One example is Valve partnering with Arch Linux. I probably don't have the best explanations cause I'm just some random nobody 17 year old nerdy kid who's been using Linux for a couple years, but Windows has many avenues to reduce data collection and have a ton of customization as well. But guess what, "reducing data collection" is probably only going to do like 2%-5% of the job, in fact even living your life "off the grid" as a fucking caveman / cavewoman is not 100% "private" since you still probably have a birth certificate, among other things, that can be traced back to you. I'm open to disagreement. Also, I never thought I would associate a birth certificate as an analogy for Linux in my life but here we are 😅.

I've never seen a Linux user go to macOS, but I've seen several macOS users go to Linux.

Although I love Linux and I have no reason to run anything else at this point, and I know my way around the command line, you make so many valid points and this video is hilarious 😅. People talk about how toxic the Linux community is...I didnt learn Linux to join a community. People need to remember that always when they start with Linux. Just use what you need at the end of the day.

It's crazy to see how angry people get over something as simple as a kernel/OS. Why can't we normalize to simply ignore stuff we don't agree on? It's not like someone will pay or respect you for the hate you give. People just need to take shit less seriously.

I switched from Windows to Linux and loving it. However, considering to switch to Apple silicon Macbook Air because of powerfull and fanless laptop. I dont like the macos tho.

I was forced to use Mac at work for 9 months and I absolutely hated it. Besides the availability of some apps I can't see any reason to use MacOS.

For a video like this mate, you really need to point out some errors he has made. You are saying he is not competent, but not giving examples of his errors. So as a guy new to the UA-cam Linux scene, I don't really know if I should believe you. Mostly I am using learn Linux TV, but there is no denying the monotone.

Linux is just another operating system within the pack. I love it, and it's great for me, but that is because I was willing to take the time to go through the terminal, learn how it works, and I was already a tinker-heavy user so Linux didn't really bother me too much in that regard. That being said, it's not just about me, but rather the masses, and the masses don't want to go through apt, pacman, dnf, etc. just to get an app, let alone the other commands you will eventually want to know. And not just that, but there are things like people on Nvidia being a factor too. And before you tell me "Oh, Nvidia is great! Blah blah blah", it was a total fucking nightmare for me for a while and I had to distro hop until I found the perfect distro without insanely horrible screen tearing or gaping stutters, that being Linux Mint MATE (yes, has to be a specific desktop environment, too). Then, I had to mishmash the KDE settings app on to this desktop and change my compositor to Compiz to finally get it working fine. Oh, and I have to play games in borderless windowed to not have my Windows games crash outright and not be bootable again. I am essentially forced to run a very specific version of Mint on this computer instead of the main distro I use as well, and I have not found any documentation for the things I have done so it was all just self-thought of things that I had to jump through to get my system working Sure, Linux gaming, or just Linux in general, is great for a lot of people, including myself (even after the stuff I mentioned, and besides, my fully AMD and Intel hardware work amazing without any issues on Linux). But some people gotta realize that others don't have the resource of patience, time, compromising on something, whatever it may be, just to run a different non-mainstream OS. Before I end this rant, I love Linux, and it's my favorite OS, but it isn't MOST people's favorite OS, and that is just how it's going to be at our current state in the computing world.

I was a sys admin back in the day. A developer for a few years now. For development, Mac. I just want my pc to work and not worry about drivers and crap not working due to lack of support etc. Sys admin etc, linux, development and design Mac, unless you need Windows because you are doing something specific that needs it

i'd love to leave windows for something better... but not worse! i've used Linux in the past and it's fine for my parents that have a basic PC to access facebook and watch the news, but for me, i wouldn't know where to begin with all the stuff that simply wouldn't work on it.

Meanwhile me who turns to fucking Microsoft Copilot to manage my Linux system with terminal commands and it working perfectly, therefore dodging forums entirely and saving me an unbelievable amount of time I know using Copilot on Linux may be immoral to some but I don't care, at least a robot can tell me answers quicker 😂
