Again Piet Zyn Drift comes up again. To my understanding that breeder has been banned or shunned so much that he stopped breeding. Piet Zyn Drift 'Nikita' had a wave of issues within the apbt community, Nikita had a couple of litter mates which are still within the apbt pedigrees. Ysterbergs are a separate breed from the boerboel and a separate recognition.

I have no issue with docking and cropping. It should be allowed and people choose what they want. I hate other people telling me what to do with my dogs.

I am sorry for the loss of Marita. This post, in her honor, may have spared me future grief and misery from inbreeding risks. I am on the list for a pup with a top US boerboel breeder. I had incorrectly assumed that boerboels were not as inbred as other breeds. This post inspired me to investigate closer and learn about F% coefficients which is higher (12-16% ) in the litters I am watching. Credit to the breeder for testing and sharing inbreeding results and thank you for the lesson Johan and Marita.

Many of those second and third generation black "boerboels" looked horrid, I remember one of the first imported into the US... weak pasterns, horrid topline and rear end. I forget the name of the highly appraised one that had pasterns so weak it looked like it had flippers.

And this topic that you brought up is a big problem in the Boerboel community in the united states of america! And I'm seeing a lot of Boerboel dogs with Rottweiler colors and blue\Gray, and what's your thoughts piedbald Boerboel? Are these other colors the same premise as the black Boerboel?

A local breeder here in Canada just had a litter of 9. Seven are black two red. Last year he had blues blacks creams and reds in one litter. The dogs are also huge. And don’t seem to live long. I decided not to buy one because I don’t believe any dog should be 200 lbs.

I’ve seen a litter of puppies that looked like purebred Boerboel pups. Was no Boerboel in them. Mother was Rottweiler dad was Bulmastiff Great Dane mix.

The downfall of many breeds now is the obsession with size. Bragging about how big the dogs are with no regard to the health risks of this. Dogs are not bred for work and use in the western world much but for pets and egos. That’s the problem

Every single breed has been created by inbreeding. Why outcrossing to other breeds needs to be done every 5 generations to keep health and vitality. But because of registration and dog shows you can’t do it anymore. Why puréed dogs are not doing well.

All breeds of dogs were a mix breed to start with. I have a dog that is 3/4 boerboel and 1/4 ridgeback and he is the best dog I ever had and I had a lot of different dogs.

Hi johan i live in namibia just bought foundation boerboele to start a breeding programme - i have 23 orphaned dogs which need feeding and medical care, thus breeding boerboele to help to feed them, i was considering adding a black boerboel for breeding but after listening to your video about inbreeding i have decided against it-i first of all am a dog lover i wish them no harm not even through breeding - thank you so much for helping me avoid a serious mistake i salute you

Further, thank you for your tribute to your good friend, and introducing her to the many of us who had not been aware of her great works. Keep her name alive through the works you are doing to preserve what I feel is the most incredible dog.

'We call it something different, then it feels better'. This is a hell of a quote. I do not breed dogs yet, but I do breed Boas, and it disgusts me to hear breeders not even think twice about breeding offspring to parent, or siblings just to, like you said, enhance a feature. Yet, they wonder why morphs, specifically in their super form (2x copies of a co-dominant gene), have severe health problems and short lifespans (look up Super Motley Boa). The original domestic albinos were inbred so badly that now many are born where their eyes fall out after birth. This is an outstanding video, and great to see you back on here.

My Boerboel is perfect. 150lbs , male. Proper Boerboels are perfect

Hard truths. Greedy breeders more interested in the dollar than the integrity of the breed. Buyers overseas were duped into believing that black was a rare boerboel color and rushed to acquire this 'exotic ' item.
