Thank you Johan for your videos and everything you do, I wish there were more people like you in Boerboel community. I am also worried and saddened by what is happening in Boerboel world and this world needs you telling us the truth. I've seen Boerboels in the shows in Europe and sometimes was getting confused that what I saw not always matched what I thought Boerboel was all about. I had the opportunity to attend the seminar/workshop on Boerboel standard and appraisal taught by SABBS senior appraisers from South Africa - Anemari Pretorius and Adre Steenkamp. It was very interesting but I couldn't help the feeling that I don't totally agree with everything. For instance the desire for extreme broadness and thickness of a dog - the broader the better, like the bone thickness, the head and the back (about the broadness for a BACK it was said that no one scores maximum 9, cant't be broad enough). When I asked about the hanging lips, do the dogs with lips described in the standard still exist, I was told that if you want a beautiful broad head, you will have hanging lips. On that moment I realised that my idea of definition of balance differs a bit. And I disagreed with the positive attitude about the inbreeding as I know that it affects genetics and health of the future generations that are not worth to risk to preserve certain traits usually for bigger scores and desirable look rather than preserving an authentic Boerboel. I have also more unanswered questions about the temperament. I was getting the impression that we were chiselling a perfect Apolo of dogs like sculpture rather than a beautiful strong balanced natural working dog.
Love what you are saying about the breed identity cause many dogs I've seen could easily been mistaken for a Cane Corso or Bullmastiff but still scored well on appraisals. When I was doing my research and looking for a good breeder to get a pup, it was so hard cause so many are focusing on wrong things.
Please keep up the good work informing people and telling the truth.

Was hoping to find out specific definition and examples of what is a Boerboel. Can you please create another video showing us exactly what you're talking about?

The book I wrote about the Breed Identity of the Boerboel tells exactly what a Boerboel is and should be. Unfortunately it is not possible to give a breed description in a single reply.

What i see is people not looking at the individual dogs and pairing based off the scores and not strengths and weaknesses of each dog in the paring. This in my opinion ends up with parings that leads to certain aspects becoming more pronounced and others lesser. Unfortunately this happens in many breeds where statuses and titles and scores are bred together but mot the individual dogs and their traits matched and paired to produce offspring better than the parents

A registered dog is not guaranteed to be a good or correct dog. Registration without evaluation means nothing. Too many very bad dogs are registered dogs snd "registration' became the magic word that breeders use to sell puppies which are sometimes not pure, sick or just generally below standard.

The downfall of many breeds now is the obsession with size. Bragging about how big the dogs are with no regard to the health risks of this. Dogs are not bred for work and use in the western world much but for pets and egos. That’s the problem
