    I have been looking at the same CJRB Prado. I like the blade shape, I also have the Taggedout. Looks like the CJRB uses the same cross lock bar as Ganzo does. I would not be surprised the omega springs used are also the same because the complaints are the same, stiff omega springs and lock bar is difficult to get a hold of on the Ganzo and CJRB. I am actually going to experiment with making my own omega springs for these models to see if I can find a wire diameter that works well and is easier on the fingers.

    I was already looking fwd to receiving my Hotknife (cf version) , but after watching this, I must admit, I'm more excited about a $56 knife than I've been in a long time . Light weight , slicey, and good actiion are pretty much what I look for in a carry knife . I had a couple of questions, going in , but you answered them , imo a sign of a well done review. I will assume the extra screws , just behind the pivot, indicate a truncated frame , only long enough to secure the pivot and lock mechanism. Kizer has done that style a couple of times recently, on budget models . Its a good way to reduce weight, as well as materials cost. Yours is the only channel I've seen with any information about the Hytron brand , so thanks for that . I may see if I can interest LTK or one of the other channels, that does HRC testing . I'm curious, after you pointed out the wide range of HRC quoted on their site . I wouldn't be surprised if they ran it a bit soft, to promote toughness , in that extremely thin blade . Since it can accept Civivi clips, I may put on a purple anno clip , and a set of gold screws I have a bag of lying around , with a matching thumb stud . Bling bling , y'all !

      Why thankyou, a few people have got one now, the site should have some affiliate links lol but I guess its too new to have one yet. Its a fun knife to be sure. I did strengthen one of the omega springs as well and changed the thumbstuds on it, but I am definitely more prone to wanting tougher crossbar lock tension though so its stock springs should be fine for a majority of people If you like something that can be brought to ridiculous levels of sharpness then it should be a fun one to have. Just be sure to have a strop nearby because that 14C28N has a wide hrc range (as im sure you saw on the website). I just wanted to note , for anyone seeking a Pyrite tanto, I've only been able to find it at Blade HQ, and only in AR-RPM9/G10 . I'm going to hold out , in hopes of either an upgraded version, or at the least , a stainless steel version, rather than G10 . I'd definitely buy it , as a match to my quickly purchased entry level versions, or as a nicer knife altogether, but not in peel ply textured G10 . Not a fan of it , and god knows, its not like I need another knife, just to have it . The Pyrite and Slasher have made me much more likely to wait , in hopes of upgraded versions , rather than to purchase as soon as an intriguing new model goes on sale .

    • @Archetype_EDC
      @Archetype_EDC 11 днів тому

      You really are waiting for that upgraded tanto pyrite huh. If you have any other pyrites lying around you could always swap the scales from a steel one with that G10 one. That BHQ tanto is the only pyrite with that huge opening slot, which I kinda like the look of Stainless steel handles aside, what would the ideal ideal steel on the tanto blade be? Their proprietary ARRPM9 is still absolutely good and fine, will serve everyone well, just wondering, if you would want an upgrade in the steel department or just the handle one

    • @dougwinchester4963
      @dougwinchester4963 11 днів тому

      @@Archetype_EDC I'd love to see an S90V/Ti version, preferably with fat carbon inlays, but since they generally do their inlays only on the show side , plain is fine . I pre-ordered the original Pyrite , in the black stainles/AR-RPM9 . For the price, I love it , but I already have both varients in that configuration. I'd like the tanto to either match , or be completely different, cosmetically. I really like AR-RPM9 , so either way would be equally fine , but I dislike the feel , and cosmetics , of peel ply textured G10 . The only way I ever buy it , is if its the only material available, and I really like the design. That said, I'll give it a month , and buy what I can get , as a tanto Pyrite would find its way into my pockets with some regularity, even if its (imo) a bit ugly . A tanto/alt Pyrite carry pair would be a beautiful thing, regardless of cosmetics. BTW, the Ultem Coeus is on its way , my first Ultem. It will either be a gateway, or the last of its kind , but I find it theoretically preferable to peel ply G10 . I did see that Kubey had come out with a titanium frame lock Coeus , the day after I ordered the Ultem version. I had waited several months for that to occur, and missed it by about 12 hours. That said , I've had mixed results with titanium Kubey knives. My Ti/frame lock Tityus has a gritty and lazy action, prompting me to purchase a peel ply G10 liner lock version, (its an absolute favorite design, with near perfect ergos, for me, known as the poor man's Koenig Arius) , with very snappy action. The experience has made me a bit leary of their frame locks .

    • @Archetype_EDC
      @Archetype_EDC 10 днів тому

      @@dougwinchester4963 Ah yea the good old S90V with titanium. The ever present staple of CJRB and Artisan. Lets see if they ever get round to it, they have had so many popular releases in the last few months that It might take a while, if it ever happens. But yea the way you described it would be very nice. And absolutely, in the absence of a super steel, their proprietary one is absolutely fine, although ive come to really love their S90V. Let me know what you think of Ultem when you get it! lol am quite keen to know what you think. Have never had a Kubey knife myself in any configuration, and that Arius really was a big hype knife for a while, probably for good reason as well. Was just looking at the prices of some of their customs and they go wildly high

    • @dougwinchester4963
      @dougwinchester4963 8 днів тому

      @@Archetype_EDC so , I got the ultem Kubey Coeus and Kizer Mini Grouper in , yesterday. I may still be experiencing the "honeymoon phase" , and possibly being influenced by the fact that I really like the Coeus , (it is SO close to the Civivi Qubit, in nearly every regard), but initial impressions are that I very much prefer the Ultem scales to peel ply textured G10 . I actually dislike peel ply G10 , quite a lot though. I find Ultem... Interesting. Different. Not cheap feeling at all. I will be ordering another Ultem knife, with a black blade and frame , to carry with the Coeus, in the near future. It will likely be either of a couple of Kuby models , as I know their quality. It looks cheap to my eyes, with a silver frame/blade , but the black, underlying the Ultem , gives it a pleasant smokey aspect. Anyway, the experiment was a success. I also like the Mini Grouper, my first button actuated liner lock. Great detent, AND a button? Yes , please!

    • @Archetype_EDC
      @Archetype_EDC 7 днів тому

      @@dougwinchester4963 hey, glad to hear that ultem wasn’t a big turn off for you lol. Just taking a bit of a break from UA-cam at the moment. The mini grouper is really an awesome knife, have had some fun with that one. Speaking about Kubey, since we were talking about the hrc results from LTK’s channel a few days ago (at least I think we were), he had one of their S90V blades tested and it came back at 55hrc 🤣 that is atrocious. There was a random Chinese Amazon knife in D2 he also tested in the same batch that came back at 64 so don’t know what to say really lol I know not super related but I guess what I’m saying is that perhaps avoid anything from Kubey in S90V. Anyways just replying as I will be off mostly for a while. Enjoy your new knives though 👍

    Nice that your girlfriend can do the reverse flick! My best friend who carries knives regularly doesn't seem to be able to learn it or want to learn it. He just rolls it out slowly every time. I tried to tell him it's the most satisfying way to open a knife but some people just don't have hand dexterity or don't want to bother.

    • @Archetype_EDC
      @Archetype_EDC 11 днів тому

      haha yea, one of her first knives that I got her was the Spyopera, she absolutely couldent reverse flick that because its a lockback. It was the Kizer Cormorant that she first got the reverse flick down, now it seems to be everything. Anything with an opening slot is good game though. And yea I know its just a small thing that people dont really think about, but it is indeed satisfying, way more so than slow rolling it. I was excited the first time I got it down myself in 2023 😂 , the same year I got into knives

      @@heavyweightsound Yea I have the one with the X marks on it as well. They released one on their site recently that has purple-ish G10 and some nicely done Nitro-V. Was tempted to get one but decided to skip it. That anodized titanium one sounds cool though, not such a fan of the Sarape patterns on handles but can go for almost all anodised Ti any day. Which one's your favourite out of them?

    • @heavyweightsound
      @heavyweightsound 10 днів тому

      @@Archetype_EDC well it's hard to say which one is my favorite but I think it's got to be the titanium one. I usually prefer micarta or G10 over metal handles but I had someone anodize it plus I bought a black blade and black hardware from Kizer to get the look I wanted, so has special appeal to me since I created a one of a kind. The latest one for me is the serape and I think it looks great however the scales are a little thicker than the other cormorants. I prefer thin knives over thicker ones so it was a bit disappointing to see that. I think the stock Sarape G10 comes in that thickness and instead of planing it down thinner to match the other versions, they just went with the stock thickness and added some longer screws. The spring / detent seems to be dialed in really nice though and it's quite Snappy.

    I just got that same Slasher on sale after I sold the standard D2 Micarta version. I had and regretted selling it, and I did not yet have a carbon fiber handled knife. But ran into loctite issues and ruined the bearings trying to get them back in. Excess factory loctite in a knife is a royal pain in the ass, have had many tense moments myself trying to take apart knives and one screw doesnt want to move, and then the screw starts to slowly strip out if you arent careful 😅 But anyways, thanks man much appreciated from this side also. yes sure, the blades are all the same shape despite the steel used. If its a premium button lock then you can definitely put it into a budget button lock handle. Results might not be 100% but it will work. Any ideas in mind? the only one i can think of is that bladehq special Prado they released that had 6.3oz steel handles. If I would have gotten that I would have taken it straight out and put it in lightweight ones

      Thanks man, adds such a nice touch with the contoured titanium. This is the best Pyrite I think Ive ever got. The Bowie Pyrite in S90V is a close second. Sharpest knife ive ever received out of the box from CJRB as well

      @@workingknives Yea man. I mean that knife I got a week ago, that ridiculous hotknives one is still sharper due to its thinness behind the edge. But for CJRB and their S90V this one turned out spectacularly. I tried sharpening the S90V Cleo yesterday and it turned out to be easier than I thought it would be (was expecting major resistance from a steel with such high edge retention). Brought it up to shaving sharp under ten minutes, when it was barely going through paper out of the box. CJRB did a great job on the the one in the video. But considering its their most premium version of the Pyrite, It had better damn well be super sharp lol 😅 and well.. they delivered. Happy customer

      I didn’t have to have to use those two extra screws but they looked good and beefy so I went with um they are a tad longer and they don’t hurt to use ,there is two black ones also that come with the scales . Happy birthday! I just wanted to say, I find that a Ceramic rod or my preferred method of a ceramic plate , does for S90V , approximately what a good stripping does for 14C. I've yet to need to actually sharpen any S90V , but whenever my Tuya Scaphoid gets a 17° edge angle , it will be terrifyingly sharp . You gotta love a great steel , paired with outstanding geometry.

      @Archetype_EDC 13 днів тому

      Hey, Thankyou kindly, its a little early but ill count it for when it does arrive in October 😉. Cheers for the info as well. Ceramic rods and plates is something ive yet to add to my collection, mainly I wanted spyderco rods to take care of serrations but i'll keep that in mind for S90V as well. Talking about terrifyingly sharp, that Pyrite really did come like that. Great factory edge coupled with the pyrites super slim geometry was really quite something. Going to see how long it lasts before i need to sharpen it. Also interested to see how the Artisan Cleo takes to the whetstones, altho im not in any particular rush to get it done

      @@Archetype_EDC I just saw that the new Pyrite tanto has been released. I'm a big tanto fan , so I'm probably going to be needing that one . I kinda want to wait and see what upgraded versions may be offered . I'm sure it's not a hollow, but with their typical geometry, it should be an epic drag cutter .

    • @Archetype_EDC
      @Archetype_EDC 13 днів тому

      @@dougwinchester4963 Ah cool, they really are putting out everything at the moment, didnt know they had a tanto pyrite until you just said. BHQ says the grind is flat, but yea the geometry should be nicely done as always. They are a bit sporadic with their upgraded versions release, so who knows. Probably would be fine to get the base version to see if you like it. I just noticed besides the one with the thumb stud, they had one with a huge opening slot on the blade. Now that one caught my attention. But with what I've had in from CJRB lately (basically premium versions of everything) I think ill be putting any ideations of buying new things to rest until well into next year lol

    So, couple questions: is the cf textured ? Hard to tell , definitively , in pics . I'm hoping not . Which Kunwu blade shape is your favorite ? As far as the rants and tangents , I get more from that, than specs and facts . I generally know those , or could get them from a spec sheet . Rant on . I find MC's comments , "Stop typing! " , etc , amusing. I think they give insight into what must be an endless queue of borderline unhinged comments , left by members of the Legion of the Perpetually Offended . I find those people simply love it , when you point and laugh . I'm sure it makes them feel "seen". A couple of video subjects I would find interesting, are , a discussion of blade coatings , and crazy comments . Dealing with the general public can either annoy or amuse. I choose amusement. Always.

    • @Archetype_EDC
      @Archetype_EDC 13 днів тому

      Haha, yea the whole crazy comments thing would be funny, but I think i'll stay away from that because I know it will just invite more negative attention. Kinda tedious to check my notifications and just see people going absolutely insane in my video comment section (this was happening a lot about a month ago and I found it really offputting) Not much of a social media guy, so I like to keep any drama as far away as possible. You should see some of the drivel on my far bigger facebook art page, I used to screenshot some of the more whacky ones but I just dont bother nowadays. I know that the specs are an easy one but not everyone is as clued in as you lol (just as an example, someone asked me the other day on a very old video I made called 'The Benchmade Bugout vs The Kershaw Bel Air' to put links to the knives... It was like, man just open a new tab and put their names in. Anyways Ive started to link everything in my descriptions lately because I want to and also im starting to finally get paid from affiliate links. Anyways that was a long one. The CF that Kunwu put out is flat basket weave, no texturing on it. I still like it a lot and the grip is great and lightweight. And blade coatings is indeed a good idea for a future video, Ill have to do a bit of research on that. I havent done any steel discussion videos in a while so I need to do one of those. Favourite kunwu blade shape is hard to choose, but its a definite mix up between the django, the pulsar and the Padre. Pretty much everything they make is a winner. Anyways that was a long reply 😅, could say more but i'll end it there for now
