    Hi Algy. Whats the best way to store steel? I've just received some metre long, square, box section streel to use for the undercarriage of my project but it'll be a good while before I start cutting and preparing it. Best wsy to protect it from corrosion etc?

    • @flyingkub

      I wipe it over with a light oil, that will be easy to clean off and put it in a tube with silica gel but make sure it is not in contact with the steel. I then use brake cleaner to degrease it before use and then wire brush it or sand it to a bright finish before welding.

      It has been very warm in the workshop and I have been enjoying flying too much , trying to catch up on my normal hours, still about 10 hours behind last year at this time.

    Are the floating connectors there to reduce vibrations or deal with thermal expansion?

    • @flyingkub
      @flyingkub 29 днів тому

      They are there to allow a degree of miss alignment when you first put the cowl on you don't tighten those ones full until the fixed ones are in; it is better than having over size holes in the fibreglass.

    Not that Port, the other Port. Its always nice to see your trips out. I couldn't help feeling sympathy for that student pilot. Great that you had a ride in that Chipmunk and it brings back memories of my "Classic Wings" experience flight from Duxford about 12 or so years ago.

      At the moment I am playing catch up with my flying hours after the slow start of summer and the illness is still slowing me down in the evenings, so the build has suffered a bit but we are getting to the end of the hight stress bits of work at work and I am starting to adapt to the medication and hav edone a few little bits on the aircraft which will be put into a catch up video soon. I was thinking it might have been ready by october this year but whenI got the diagnosis and work ramped up for that project, coming home tired and having a nap after supper, it just got a bit too much.

      I've avidly followed your build videos from the outset but wasn't aware of the nature of your illness Algy. All I can say by way of support is that I was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 but that I am now fit and well. There is very much a life after cancer. So much so that, with your inspiration, I am currently preparing my workshop in readiness to build a Nicollier Menestrel. Just wish I too had a Kub to keep me current!

      Your comment is very humbling, that my videos can have an influance on anyone is just amazing to me. I am returning to something like my preillness level of fittness so hopefully within a month or two I will be getting back to full swing building, provided the finances can keep up. Thank you for you kind comments and some video of build is coming up.
