  • In this video I make progress on the oil cooler intake fairing with some hydro forming, which was fairly successful and did not need too much planishing to get the required curves to match the cowl of my Fisher Youngster.
    My videos are not intended to be instructional for building aircraft or the kit, they are to share how I am progressing and my methods. You may get ideas and tips for building an aircraft. My methods are those I have learnt or developed over time with aircraft, cars and boats. IF YOU USE MY METHOD ON YOUR AIRCRAFT, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. Feel free to comment and give advice or ask questions, I will try to get back to you as soon as I can.

    I like mysteries. I also consider myself a fairly good mechanic. Those traits might explain why I love your videos so much! I often find myself at a loss as to where in the world you are heading, only to have a satisfying "ah-ha" moment. The way you are making the slots in the cover was such a surprise to me; way better than what I would have tried. Keep the videos coming!

      I hope to get a chance to finish the cover this week and give you all the answers. 😀 It is very nice to know my videos give you some entertainment and a different view point on tasks.

    Always good to watch your fabrication work and I always learn a lot from it, so thanks for keeping the videos coming! These small additions are well worth the effort to make them properly and the end result is going to be superb.🙂

    Nice to see some progress on the cover.
    Regardless of there not being a flying video, it is always good to hear that you are getting some time in the air.

      Thank you for your time. I do hope that the grass strips recover around here so I can fly the Kub to them, this weekend is gusty to 45mph so I will not fly :-(

    Only my opinion of course. I would have taken oh, a 6 inch round pvc pipe, about 2 feet long, cut a slit lengthwise. Heat it up in the oven or a metal tube like a smoke stack or something. flattened it. then use that to make a cover.

    • @flyingkub
      @flyingkub  5 місяців тому

      Well I look forward to you doing a demo video of that, 🙂 The metal tube sound like more work (as most smoke stacks are steel) the PVC pipe could work with the right form and them vacuum form it but I think the pipe might be a little too thick, I have done it with 0.8mm PVC sheet.

      @@outlawflyer7868 I see now what you meant by the metal tube not. U have seen these methods used but not really any use for the cover on the front of my cowl, the tude material is too heavey, the buck would have to be made differently to allow vacuum forming and PVC would need UV protection. I would ranther beat a sheet of metal, which I can polish. The method has its uses though for making simple moulds for laying up carbon fibre.

    I see fisher has been bought out annd they are going to stop building aircraft from wood so maybe yours will be one of the last one built

      That is not the case they have been taken over and the price ofplanes has gone sky high but they are apparently working on inproving the drawing and the kit parts supplied. So you if you buy a set of plans ($3000+) you get discounts that will pay back the cost of the plans, effectivly if you by an engine off them that repays the cost of the plans. Not sure how this stratagy will play out but we will see. They are thinning down the plans they produce a bit so you may be right they may drop the Youngster.

      @@flyingkub the interview i saw on u tube the owner said the problems is mainly that supply of sitka spruce has dried up in the state due to the felling ban

    • @flyingkub
      @flyingkub  5 місяців тому +1

      They changed over the using Northan White Pine about 3 years ago under Dave. Dave is still involved. The new parteners have looked at what is costing the company money and say that the biggest issue is the plans only have a very small margine and the support that needs to be given is very high (costly) hance the change in plan pricing.

      @@flyingkub your home country is full of sitka spruce

    • @flyingkub
      @flyingkub  5 місяців тому

      @@electoplater We have some spruce and started growing Sitka Spruce but it is fast grown so not as good as Alskan, not enough growth ringas and very expensive. Most new build here use Douglas Fur that is stronger but heavy and so some re-engineer has to be done to keep the aircraft weight down.
