Here's a fun little collab with Adam Nolan, a terrific sax player from Ireland, and my friend Lukas Suzzi from Denver! I'd be meaning to play something with Adam for a long time, but never got to meet him in real life yet, and since I had recorded a little guitar-drums duet with Lukas Suzzi (who's already been featured a few times on this channel) last time he came to visit me, I thought I'd as...

The first part of a long improvised session with American pianist Denman Maroney (@denmanic1 ) and Roland Devocelle (@rolanddevocelle2994 ) two weeks ago in Durfort's protestant temple (France). I'm very happy and grateful we were able to do this with Denman, whose amazing work and "hyperpiano" techniques I discovered not long ago and have fascinated me ever since! I strongly recommend the use of earphones for this one! Believe it or not, I'd just told Roland, before starting to record, that we'd play something abstract that would slowly morph into a funk, for a change! The said funk never saw the light of day, as we got a bit carried away by our love for abstract music... Oh well, our next tune will be a tribute to Kool & the Gang, I promise! Roland Devo...

Monochromatic variations [Midnight sessions in Le Passage] - (Roland Devocelle, Urbuli Baba)

Impervious to the wild, unfettered boisterousnous of Agen's nightlife (which has earned it its nickname of "Rio de Janeiro of Southern France"), Roland and I kept our nose to the grindstone well past midnight and recorded this little musical oddity at the end of a long session last week, to the delight of beslumbered neighbours and tawny owls, looking in wide-eyed bewilderment at our feverish g...
Music for Richard Diebenkorn - (Cheryl Pyle, Max Ridgway, Urbuli Baba)

Richard Diebenkorn has been a favourite of mine since my early teens, although I've been able to see only a couple of his paintings in real life up til now, as his work hasn't been widely collected in Europe, as far as I know. By a strange coincidence though, one my of my teachers while I was studying art in Florence, Italy, a few years later, told me in passing she'd been his pupil back in the...

Music for Antoni Tàpies - (Cheryl Pyle, Max Ridgway, Urbuli Baba)

Finally a new recording with Cheryl & Max! This is a tribute to a painter I've long been fond of : (from Max's channel) "Antoni Tàpies was a Catalan painter, sculptor and art theorist. In 1948, Tàpies helped co-found the first post-war movement in Spain known as Dau al Set which was connected to the Surrealist and Dadaist Movements. Tàpies originally thought of himself as a surrealist painter a...
Permutations & Bermudations - (Roland Devocelle, Urbuli Baba)

Probably our best duo session thus far! Roland (the Bermuda shorts-clad gentleman on the left) initially had some misgivings about my publishing this video, lest people should notice he was wearing Bermuda shorts (a garment that ill-becomes the serious-minded jazzman in his view), but I eventually assuaged his fears after promising I wouldn't draw attention to the fact he was wearing Bermuda sh...

I didn't want to antagonise hardcore Parker fans by calling our slightly unorthodox cover of this well-know standard its original name (Steeplechase)... Anyhow, hope you enjoy this little session - one among many more that Roland and I recorded in Agen/Le Passage last month. We had just wrapped up an afternoon recording session with our friend Thierry Mariétan on upright bass (which I'll upload...
Almost the Hudson River [Two free improvs by the Garonne] - (Roland Devocelle, Urbuli Baba)

I just got back from a very intense, fun-filled one-week "recording holiday" with my buddy Roland in Agen! Until I eventually sort through the many hours' worth of recordings we've made, I thought I'd share this little plein-air session on the banks of the Garonne river! My cell phone ran out of space soon after the beginning of the first improv, so I asked Roland to shoot a little video of the...

Please use headphones! :) Here's a new piece with Max and Yassokiiba, with whom I'd already recorded a track a while back (Solar Brew: ua-cam.com/video/CtPLnvKzrAM/v-deo.html). Absolute wonderful track, love it
Agree with caalmus here about that crash, pretty great way to close it all out! Also love how calm it gets and then how hectic then can go right back down, never know whats next
An amazing collab to start off the year and really cool people are submitting art now too! Always love the art/music vids and no exception here, some really nice pieces and nice music. Great job to all and happy to hear the tour was great too 👌👏
Stopping in on HotSpot from my new phone. Certainly not a viable replacement for inhouse Web. But it's a stopgap. Maybe I'll get StarLink. The upfront costs are just so expensive! It's like $650 for the Modem/Router! The price is competitive otherwise. Cool to see you guys while you were recording this one :] I like how it gets frantic, then makes you think it's cooling off... only to dive right back in√
Hello again! This was a gift to all ears, thanks for the show 🙂 All the best for upcoming adventures in 2025, peace! Tubster
Questa musica e questi dipinti ti trasportano in un mondo parallelo fantastico. Favoloso!

An excellent way to end the year. Welcome back and have a Happy New Year if possible 🍌
the current times (and general political climate) admittedly aren't conducive to merry-making, but thankfully art is our way out!! Wishing you a wonderful year too, my friend, and please keep on regaling us with some more delightful cinematic weirdness!!

Hi UB, great to have you back!! Lovely piece, lyrical, delicate, thoughtful. Very impressive. Perfectly complemented by the artwork!! Shut my eyes, and I could be in Greenwich Village c. 1965 (If only ....)!!
Thanks a lot, my friend! Your support and kind words mean the world to me! alas, the quaint little village I live in isn't quite as hip as Greenwhich village, I'm afraid... but it has wild almond trees (a fact that seems to have made quite an impression on Brian kastan when he was there this month! 😅) Wishing you a wonderful new year!!
thank you for listening

thank you for listening
I love it. Thank you all for this thoughtful work. :)
Thanks a lot man, I'll be sure to check out your recent (and upcoming!) work very soon! have a wonderful new year!
This is nice work, all around, the art gives me vibes of Adolph Gottlieb, and other Abstract Expressionist era American painters.
thanks a lot, Roger, and happy new year!! I'll try to find some more time to work on some collabs this year, hopefully I should be a bit more free! Gottlieb would be a great idea for another video, but I think Max might have made one already with his former quartet!
Wishing everybody a terrific new year, full of love, art and strange music! 💜🎶🪐
Heheh. Thanks, man. Happy strange music year. :)
Hi there! I would like to inform you that I will be retiring from UA-cam from January on. It is the logical last step in staying away from all social media platforms for mental reasons, to put it that way. If there's anything you want to tell me, please email me. Thanks for your music. Take care!

nice how this is the answer to my last question
hey man, sorry i've been kind of away from youtube for a while because of the tour i was doing! what was your question again? sorry im so behind with answering comments and everything at the moment! ich hoffe es geht dir gut! :D
Its been awhile brotha, but let me tell me you i have been moved by this performance. Music , music , however its presented. There was a madness then sweetness all dilapadating into something out of a alternate jazz universe ❤
Thanks so much, buddy! I'm just back on yt after a while - wishing you a wonderful new year, hope you'll keep blowing us away with some more crazy deconstructed hiphop!!
Grande performance.

thanks Rob, that's a lovely way of putting it - free jazz alchemy!!
I just found this on iTunes I will be listening in the car as well
ha thanks, man! Wishing you a great 2025, Ibah!! To you and the whole Rotunda community!!
@ thanks Urbuli happy 2025 brother!
This is such a wonderful performance. Playful, light, and uplifting - expressive and textural. Everything is so well balanced, even when it gets a little hectic. Love it.
thank you so much, Paul! I'm just back from the tour and enjoying a quiet Christmas holiday! Wishing you a wonderful 2025!! Hope we finally get to meet at some point this year - if I ever come across someone desperately looking for a band for a French-Japanese Electronic Free Jazz Festival, I'll make it happen for sure!!
@urbulibaba That would be amazing! I won't make it to Europe in 2025 so hope you can make it over here. If not, then one day it will have to happen!
@@yassokiiba oh that's a pity, i'd started making plans in my head, lol! ha, persuading Roland to take a trip to Japan is going to take a lot of subtle cajoling, I'm already trying to talk him into doing another free jazz tour in Italy! 😅
What a sonic journey. Mesmerising 💜
thanks a lot, buddy! happy new year btw!!
Expression & experimental goes along with movement that evolves in intricate brainwave patterns….the frequency is illogical, logic that seeps through our consciousness & changes the algorithms. Loving the original concepts that flow…enjoy the holidays my brothers…Reeka💫
Thank you for your customary eloquence, Reeka! have a great weekend!!
Very very impressive, I like it very much
thank you, Muratti!
Wow, December looks busy for you guys! I like how you work in a slightly latin feel during the first song. And the title to the second piece is hilerious! Roland's sax has a questioning tone, like creeping around dark corners.
Thanks again, Patrick! it's a line from Browning that I thought i simply MUST use at some point -and there's arguably something vaguely chivalrous and knight-like about Roland's general look and demeanour, the long silvery hair puts one in mind of the troubadours of yore! ;)
Beautifulness
thanks a bunch, Martin!
@urbulibaba Il piacere è tutto mio amico mio!!!
That first duo really jumped at me. Perhaps it's because it sounds somewhat close to home, being "new musicy" but also the playing was fantastic and it's nice to hear you play with something that's more pointillistic. Anyway, incredible work as always, and your different collabs make each video a surprise!
thanks a lot again, Karl! the acoustics of the place was both interesting and challenging to work with, hence perhaps the very subdued pointilistic approach (it was difficult to hear the piano properly, especially when we were all playing at the same time), but it's always inspiring having to adapt to such circumstances, it gives you new ideas!
Another great part of your fabulous session, lovin' it 🙂
thanks a lot, Peter!! hope all's well with you!
This is absolutely wonderful ❤ 🔥 ✌️ freedom!!!

Ingen orsak!
Hi, I now pray at the temple of UB, DM and RD!!
hahah beware of false idols, my friend!! who would have thought a temple could become a shrine for free jazz? (though, admittedly there's often something a bit sectarian about free jazz afficionados!) :P
Here's the second round, but hell, what a round!! this tower is dark indeed, haunting from the depth of the Underworld of forgotten mystic sounds of free jazz, I heard Charon himself dancing to this ecstatic tune! I miss Michel C, but no doubt Michel B-arnier and his fellow government is going to face the very same Underworld...
hahaha, thank you! what a vast colourful odyssey of a comment - from Browning (the poet this line was taken from) to Charon to Michel Barnier and the "other" Michel!! :P
Excellente.
thanks a lot again!
