Anoukémélénoadarek [Anouk aimait les noix d'arec] - (Michel C, Urbuli Baba)

- At last another tune with Michel! Don't mind the whimsical title - we recorded this little piece last week, upon hearing of iconic French New Wave actress Anouk Aimée's passing at the age of 92... If you're a big Fellini fan like me, you'll doubtless have seen her in La Dolce Vita and Otto e mezzo, two of Fellini's greatest masterpieces.
Hope you enjoy this rather meditative little tune - and get to forget, however briefly, about the seemingly ineluctable rise of fascism in France, and in many other places, we're seeing these days...
Michel C (saxophone)
Urbuli Baba (drums)
Various birds (carefree chirping - blithely untroubled by the impending election of a vile, racist, homophobic, anti-feminist neo-fascist as France's new prime minister)
Recorded at Michel's Enclave, Caux. Mixed by Urbuli.

A really nice and meditative tune, back to the mighty original duet of Urbuli and Michel !! I can see the prophetic words of light and hope against the conservative political forces that could drive us into deep silliness. The New Front Populaire couldn't agree more on Michel and Urbuli's intricated lines, while Leon Blum should be undoubtedly dancing from its grave! I see this as the omen of tonight's results, let there be rock, let there be free jazz!!
hahaha, vielen Danke, Antoine! we shall know more about the shape of things to come tomorrow night, until then... 🤞🤞
Merci, mon cher Patrick ! Je ne sais même pas quoi répondre à ce magnifique cri du coeur, poétique et authentique ! Chantons encore la liberté, les rencontres et le partage, pendant qu'il est encore temps!! 💜💜💜
Music that free,s the spirit & lets us reflect on the good o,l days…artists like you will humanize our journey….no AI or political stranglehold will hold us back from exploring & expanding our minds….this was EPIC.
Thanks so much, Reeka! sorry it took me so long to reply, I'm a bit all over the place these days! I hope you're well, my friend!
I love how at times this is so quiet it's barely there - that wonderful sense of space and how your playing intersects the silence that surrounds it. There's also a beautiful clarity to the playing. Simple and direct, spiritual and uplifting.
I came onto my veranda to enjoy this one with a coffee, surrounded by plants and the relatively fresher air out here. The second the video started, so did the rain, which annoyed me, but the piece is so happy ... the light patter of raindrops on leaves became like some beautiful surface noise on a tape or record. A great start to the day! Thank you!
Thanks a million, Paul! so sorry i'm replying so late, I'm a bit all over the place these days, and often away from home! lots of concerts and opportunities to play or jam unexpectedly cropping up... (Shall meet Christopher R C this Sunday btw, as he's playing a gig near my area!) I'm very glad this felt like an adequate match for a rainy day, Michel and I always try (not even fully consciously at this point) to absorb the sounds of the surrounding elements into our jams... the wind blowing, the birds chirping, now the cicadas stridulating louder than ever!
Anouk liked areca nuts " / I really like this title! and we loved the great Anouk Aimée just as much. Could Caux be the capital of Free-Jazz, of music in freedom? On provisional release? Let's hope not! , because if we are to believe this nauseating tendency that poisons our cottages, it is enough to bang your head against a wall. A joy to hear you, to see that free spirits dare to crush with their sounds, their cries, their dreams, their generosity, their generosity, of their invention without a net, to crush all these bitter fruits. Thank you Michel and Baptiste for these treasures that ask for nothing in return but the miracle of being alive! 🌈🎶🎼🎵🌈
😘😘💜💜🫂🎶
You fellas build up such an atmosphere and it's recorded so well that I feel like I'm in there with you. Mesmerising. 👍 While not a film buff I have seen Anouk Aimée' in films and what a fine actor she was. As for the politics, all I can say is France is no way alone in having politicians who are quick to blame the most vulnerable in any society whilst ignoring corruption of all sorts higher up the ladder!!!!
Thanks so much! so sorry, got busy and I'm only replying to unanswered comments just now! I must confess last week was pretty tense, as the prospect of a far right government loomed large, but luckily in the meantime people on the left worked hard to ensure this wouldn't happen, and the final results were surprisingly better than expected! but there's still no denying that fascism and racism are on the rise pretty much everywhere just the same...
@@urbulibaba Please never worry about replying Urbuli. Yep, glad to hear how things went in France lately 👍
Sounds interesting! I enjoyed listening. Greetings from Elly 🎶🎵🎶❤
thanks for listening!
I love how percussive the sax can be at times.
Thank you, Patrick! Michel's playing is quite unique! :D
Estu olleya sangeeta...adhbuta 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
ninna ammena pottel adbhuta, thank you poli
An introspective and reflective pair. I love how you manipulate time when Michel sustains those long, drawn-out notes. And yes, free improvisation is a molecular antidote to fascism.
Many thanks, Karl, for the kind feedback! Music is a balm for the soul in these depressing times...
Music to set the spirit free. A super meditative piece with lots of expression and light and shade. 😊😊
very well put, thanks a lot, LV!!
Che gran bel viaggio 🎶✨
Tante grazie, amico mio! spero tyu stia bene!

Fantastic again Urbuli 🙂 love the bits where that Sax was being pushed to the last breath and then you pushed it further with your drums 😃 great stuff
Thanks so much, my friend! yeah, I love when Michel does that too, and when the sound seems to blend into the surrounding elements and breeze! :D
This was a wonderful start to my day… very good feelings in this soothing improvisation…🎉
Thank you, Ihba!! Hope you're well, my friend!
@@urbulibaba absolutely Bro!!!
A really beautiful piece. I'm cooking while listening to it, so it can only be delicious!
haha, thanks man! i've actually contemplated starting a parallel cooking tutorial channel, with free jazz in the background! featuring completely improvised, experimental recipes of course! :P
Too bad about the expected French election results! Great music my friend!👍👍👍
Thank you, Tomas! second round tomorrow, so we'll find out soon enough... 🤞🤞
Yes! There is still hope!
I'm thoroughly impressed-great job!
thank you so much! so sorry I didn't see your message earlier!
What a progression and as always collaborated beautifully! Love how you and your mate seemed to know exactly when to chime in or all pause etc 👌👏
Thanks a lot, Prof! ha, I'm glad you feel so! finally 13 (or 14, I forgot) years of practise together paying off! I met Michel for the first time when i was but a wee child of 9 or 10, and started playing with him at 17! time flies...
@@urbulibaba the practice definitely paid off & yeah it really does, seems so older I get the quicker it goes too haha
very cool I like the horn on this one and the way those high notes rise like a tea kettle
thanks a lot! haha, you know what, I left that tab open without realizing it the other day, and genuinely thought there was a mosquitoe flying nearby when Michel started playing! 😂
Very fine and subtle! I enjoyed it
thanks a lot, Max!! :D
quite beautiful
Such a joyMy Friend!!!
Thank you, James! :D
