    Love your work! These videos are amazing! One question: I am restoring some G1 weapons with these chrome pens, do I need to wait for a month before I touch them and is the clear coat necessary? I don’t have an airbrush

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot 18 днів тому

      Thank you! In my experience and testing of the Molotow chrome paint pens, I noticed that even after letting it dry for weeks you could still rub off the paint or at least dull the mirror reflectiveness. What you might want to do is test the chrome paint on some plastic spoons... do three. Spoon one, test the paint with your thumb by rubbing on the painted surface to see the result after 1 week of drying. Then do the same thing weeks later w/ spoon 2 and 3 respectively. If it seems like it's working and your okay with it, go for it. If you want to try the clearcoat, try that on a spoon as well. Basically, for my restorations I believe the clear coat is necessary but I think it's best for you to do a little testing to find out what suits you. :)

    You could've used PTFE tape, aka plumber's thread tape in the joints to thicken them. Also, why not mix the paint or pigment into the mold? That way it'll have the same color throughout the resin, saving you a painting step?

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot Місяць тому

      There's a lot of different ways to tighten a joint and sometimes I utilize the materials I have on hand. Plumber's tape would probably work just fine although it may be a bit too bulky wrapped around the circumference of that joint. The resin I use w/ the talc would most likely muddy the color however black may be possible. And I usually have to do multiple resin pours b/c when duplicating an item with lots of details, it can go wrong from air bubbles to not filling all the details of the mold itself.

    Oddly enough the Rock Lord's coloring book is a major source of information about the character details because they based it's text on info from the Rock Lords concept text. What brand of glue are you using ? Would Krazy glue to rough for the plastic ? Also do you have an alternative to LA’s Totally Awesome degreaser spot remover as we don't have that in Canada. Tried CLR bathroom cleaner. Seems to work but it's gonna take a week, not enough powerful.

    • @MisterBobot

      I use a cheap CVS super glue. Any type of super glue will work, just use a little bit, you don't want to get any of it on the other parts. For LA’s Totally Awesome degreaser spot remover, I think oven cleaner might work, never tied it though, and the only other thing that kind of works is rubbing alcohol, you must let it soak for a while and use some elbow grease.

      Hi, and thank you for watching! Yes, the Gloss , Alclad II Klear Kote Lacquer does a good job. You have to apply it a certain way but it will protect the chrome paint w/o loosing the mirror reflectiveness. I made a tutorial on it, here: ua-cam.com/video/8vsK2f-00sg/v-deo.htmlsi=j1dTgxwDe3dTapin

    Great work! Do you do restoration commissions? My favorite toy/character is jetfire and I was able to get one in very good condition but would like it polished up a bit so to speak; I’d like to bring it back as close as possible to original condition as possible. Thanks for your time and these videos!

      Hi & thank you! Glad you liked the G1 Jetfire restoration... yes, I have done some commissions... it really depends what's involved. Feel free to send me an email. :)

    Great job!! The legs easy to remove?

      Thanks! I didn't mess w/ the legs that much but the design is pretty straight forward and they appear to be easily removeable.

    Should note that if you're missing leg pieces, the opposing rear and front legs can be flipped diagonally. So left front pieces can be used on the rear right

    Does the toothpaste cleaning works similar to the baking soda method for fixing scratches in things like glasses?

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot 4 місяці тому

      In hindsight, I wouldn't use the toothpaste method, it worked okay, but not as good as a clear plastic scratch remover like Meguiar's.

    Last time I removed stickers I used lighter fluid and it worked more quickly than that goo gone. I did hear that lighter fluid is bad for chrome and clear parts. What has your experience been?

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot 4 місяці тому

      I've never used lighter fluid to remove stickers b/c I always have a bottle of Goo Gone around. However, I 've heard it works pretty good but you do have to be careful on certain surfaces like chrome. Goo Gone works well on all surfaces but does take a little longer to work... you have to let it soak for a bit.

    Wy not 3d scan for a 3d printer. This way you can upload the total toy . And can be rebeult with a 3d printer.

    For the chrome removal, the LA Awesome! Cleaner is available at most dollar stores very cheap in the USA. I got mine at Dollar Tree. However, I wouldn't recommend removing chrome if you can just touch it up with a Molotow pen or some Mirror chrome paint from StewartSimple

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot 4 місяці тому

      I thought about touching it up, @1:11 but in my experience, using the Molotow pens on those front bumper scratches would have looked very patchy.
