Thanks VTR! :) Yep, there was a bit of trial and error developing the this method, especially for parts that are very thin... :) Thank for watching and the comment!
Turned out great Mike. I've tried making a replacement part before using "Blue Stuff" as a mould and Milliput as the material and it just didn't really work. This looks like a much better method. Might have another crack at it this way.
Wow! Looks like I'm the first one to leave a post here! All I can say is great minds think alike! I just logged in real quick to watch something before going to sleep and just happened to see this! Ironically a few days ago I decided to start working on a pair, meaning 2 each or 4 figures total for my younger brothers. They just turned 10, and the fact that they're huge transformer fans and twins themselves, I thought that there would be no cooler gift than restoring a couple of these guys so they each have a copy for themselves. I've got enough junk laying around where I can easily do that, and just kind of been tinkering with what I got to see how I'm going to go at it and how I'm going to repair them for them. Have you done any restoration on a G1 Sideswipe? The reason I ask is pretty much every junker I'm seen on eBay lately is basically 2 shades of red. The plastic is darkened and is a different color than the diecast. From my understanding it's a tint issue. It's common with certain figures, especially if they are red or blue, where some of the parts sometimes will naturally darken not because of yellowing, dirt or grime, it's a chemical reaction of the tints that they use the color of the plastic that have changed chemically over the years, causing the change in color. If I wanted to color match, probably the easiest thing to do is just paint the diecast the same shade of red that the rest of the figure has turned to, but being an '80s kid and knowing that lambos didn't have a darker red like that, I would like it to be a brighter shader red because that's what they were. All that I can think of is basically recasting all the plastic parts that are solid red to match the diecast red, but not too sure about how to go at this. Have you done anything like this or any ideas? And I've been playing around with the new 3D scanner that I got for my birthday, so there are parts that you're looking for, and able to do 3D printing, or know someone who has a printer, I might have parts that may come in handy. I'll probably leave you an email directly later. Been so busy with everything else I haven't had a chance to write back, but just want to leave you a post and see what you thought. Cool vid as usual man!
Thank you very much for the comment... good to hear from you! Please send me an email when you can and we can chat about working on your G1 Sideswipe. I do have some ideas... :) :)
I did that for my Diaclone sunstreaker. I just casted all of sunstreaker's parts into a red color. Restored the chrome & bought toy hax labels for him. $100 body only. I want to get a Masterforce minerva body only. I can cast the parts from Nightbeat I saw someone made a Complete resin casted He man figure. With all the weapons. For me I would Just add paint to the resin. That works too I have done it & turned out perfectly. I do it as well for the chrome parts. Just add a color plastic. Plus i think the missiles were yellow underneath.
Hey everybody, hope you enjoyed the video! Please feel free to leave a comment and let us know what you think. :)
Nice job on molding the parts! Looks way better complete! Damn Hasbro and all those tiny parts! Damn us for loving their products too! Lol😂😂😂
lol... I have bags and bags filled and labeled w/ tons of tiny G1 TF parts. :)
Look at you restoring a Lamborghini from the '80s! Great work as always, Mike!
Thanks! Yep, they don't make them like that anymore... my favorite is the 84 Lamborghini Countach, aka "Sideswipe". :)
Nice castings! Great tip on using 3 layers, that would not have been obvious to me - well at least on the first try 😀

Brilliant Mike fantastic stuff yet again.
Thanks Simon! Is there a new video from your channel on the way? Looking forward to it! Thanks again for the support... :)

Use a pin to remove the bubbles at the bottom of the spoiler peg holes when you pour the resin.
Good idea! I should have done that... :)
Was that Molotow chrome that you used? If so, what did you use to topcoat it? Every topcoat I've used silvers the chrome instead of leaving it chrome.
Yes it was Molotow... for the topcoat I use Alclad II Lacquers Gloss Klear Kote. Thanks for watching! :)
Is there a way to make a mirror image/opposite of an object, say if you have a right hand and need to make a left hand?
Hey, thanks for the comment and watching the video! Not 100% sure if possible on your question, but I am researching it. Thanks! :)

Very cool! Once you get the hang of casting resin... there's a lot of cool things you can do. :)
Now to finish watching this, then tell you what I think.
Hope you enjoy! :)
@@MisterBobot I hope :) Turning it on again now :)
MAKING parts now not just stickers and things. Holy Crap. Next thing I know, you'll be making an entire crasher one day diecast metal and all.
Thanks! Just something I wanted to try and figure out how to do. I think it will be a useful restoration tool down the road... :)
@@MisterBobot I don't think it. I KNOW it will be useful skill for a restorer.
Forgot to tell them it more expensive this way
Nah, resin and paint be much cheaper than a donor bot.
