First the fear of ruining the prefectly sewn top, then thinking how many mistakes I made by selecting the wrong quilting pattern... And then I decided to make a simple quilt from 5 inch squares and just quilt it with different patterns. It was not good quilting but we love this quilt anyway. Uau!! This is so nice and indeed it seems easy when you show, but I bet anyone whos looks at it withouth knowing how to do it, will certainly think it is very complex. Thank. You just inspired me to quilt a piece of work I have.

      I love such comments. Thank you!!! I hope you will have fun with quilting. This video is one of my favorites. It starts witha a line and rest is echo and yet another line. It is a very organic quilting. Always a bit different. It is not difficult, you just have to let go of certain traditional concepts and let it flow. ❤❤❤

    thank you. I love watching you my problem is I can't seem to get stitches to not skip or to quit looking like tension isn't right. I have a brother ps500 and just recently found a quilting foot that I can adjust the height but I don't really know how high to adjust the foot to the fabric sandwich. and if I can just get stitches to cooperate I won't be as frustrated. I make prayer quilts and right now I just straight stich around each triangle and square.

    • @quiltingnerd
      @quiltingnerd 13 днів тому

      OK...skipped stiches... possible solutions: new needle, size 80 or 90 the quilting foot should be high enough as to barely touch the fabric. You should not push it. if the foot is too high then you will have the skipped stiches. you can also play with the tension but usually this is not the reason. I do not know the settings for your machine. You can try the hopping foot for comparison sake. if you have few different ones try those. Quilting on a domestic machine depends on the machines. I had one pfaff that was not able to perform in quilting mode. I was frustrated to no end. I will keep my fingers crossed! Let me know.

    Instant gradification has destroyed quilting.

      Not so bad! there are enough people that want to take it the slow way. enjoy the process, the progress, the finished quilt. Quilting is a slow art. It is not for everybody, this is why it is so special. ❤❤❤

    Love this design. After washing, the puffs left where the open quilting areas are would give such a pop of texture. Would you use matching or contrasting thread on a real quilt? I’m thinking filler for open, background areas.

      @quiltingnerd 14 днів тому

      Thank you! This is the secret of great quilting texture. The areas of larger space that puff up! About your question. That depends. Usually I take a thread of matching colr but it can be lighter or bit darker than the fabric so I have a bit of a contrast. Few years ago I was afraid of it. Now, I just check what is the best for the quilt. ❤❤❤

    I'm a bit late getting to watch your video this time. We're very busy this time of year, rushing to finish outdoor projects in prep for the next garden season, finishing the harvest for this year and as well, I'm just very distracted. The weather is leveling off, feeling less hot and sticky so maybe soon I can get started on my Indian Star table runner. This design and the colors on a larger scale would make a nice quilt for a man, very graphic and not so feminine as some quilts. Have a good week! ~Cynthia

      There is no secret to that. Just patiance and practice. It took me some time before I started noticing progress and then it was fast. Also I suddenly noticed that my kidsare so big now....so maybe my time estimation skills are not as good. What I want to say, just start with no pressure. let your skills develop and enjoy the creativity ❤❤❤
