I Carved the Master Sword out of Soap
Learning to balance a billion hobbies is a challenge, but today I had a brilliant idea: what if I combined my love for soapmaking with the art of carving? Soap is soft and would be easy to carve and paint. But what could I create?
The answer was simple; I wanted to recreate the Master Sword from my favourite game franchise, The Legend of Zelda. There will be a few pitfalls along the way, but I think it's an interesting challenge and I'm excited to see if I can do my favourite game justice!
I get most of my soap supplies from Voyageur Soap and Candle, which is a soap and candle supply shop based in Vancouver.

Lush Gift Sets are Expensive so I Made My Own

Gifting friends and family feels great, but it gets costly very quickly! Take Lush, for example. It would cost around $600 for me to give 12 custom Lush gift sets away! I like my friends, but I don’t like them that much 👀 That’s why I set myself on a mission to design and create my very own bath and body kit, making sure to include all the essentials: a bath bomb, a bubble bar, a candle, and a ...

NEVER Use This Ingredient on Soap (frosty wintery design!)
Oh, how I love this project.
Sorry, Skyward sword came out at a pivotal time in my life and was one of the less dark zelda games so it wins my favourite slot. I never finished twilight princess because it was too scary for baby me.
🎉 CONGRATULATIONS ON 2K 🥳🤩!! I was there and Michealangelo said he loves Zelda and anything Zelda is top tier 🙂↕️ Maybe you could carve a bunny for Easter! 🐰
🎊 🙌 Partyyy!! 🎉 🍰 Lol! I only wasn’t there because I was too busy getting to know Leonardo DaVinci. I’m glad to know he’s a Zelda stan 😂 Oh my, you have way too much faith in me!! It would probably end up in disaster but what’s life without a little risk 😎
You outdid yourself with this one 🥹💜
You’re too kind! 😭
i always forget you aren't up in 100k+ subscriber territory. you don't get this kind of quality from channels your size very often - excited to see you get bigger :) my incredibly unpopular favorite zelda game takes: minish cap and phantom hourglass. phantom hourglass because it was my first, so it has a special place in my heart. but minish cap absolutely wins for me. couldn't tell you exactly why, but i think part of it is because i don't struggle with combat the way i do in the 3d games. i would say i also love spirit tracks, but i got stuck in the final sand temple and i'm frustrated enough with it to never finish it, lol.
That’s so sweet, thank you! Actually Minish Cap is my favourite 2D Zelda game! And I’ve played them all. Something about it just hits differently. It also uses a lot of sound effects from Ocarina of Time so that could be it 😂 I also loved the music and the dungeons, and being able to switch between the big and small worlds. I tried playing Spirit Tracks but stopped after my third time in that tower place ☠️
Are you talking about Biggoron's double handed sword, first introduced in Ocarina of Time?
That’s it!! So stressful with all the time limits but so rewarding 😊
I told you we'd get a nostril reveal in February! I am psychic 🧙🏻♀️
Ok so hear me out - removing excess from the pedestal (aka carving it out from a larger block). Also , I'm wondering if diagonal joins would have been stronger for the sword. Great job. I can imagine the lady from I dream in soap doing this design but inside a loaf mold. Ooooh... what about swords and pedestals inside a clear melt and pour loaf?
I love I Dream in Soap, her content is so inspiring and creative! Ooh the idea of something embedded inside a clear melt and pour loaf is intruiging… I wonder if you could make some sort of potion jar soap or something? And you’re probably right, diagonal joints would have been better!
Классный меч!
I occasionally use m&p soap as glue (and sometimes as paint) and I put my little glass (or silicone) beakers with the melted soap inside my crock pot on high while I'm gluing (or painting) to keep it fluid enough to use. For the soap boogers on the brush, I use whatever straight edge is handy and just scrape them off when the need arises and drop them back into the beaker they came from.
Great tips! What do you use the soap glue for? Do you also carve soap or do you just use it for fixing embeds to CP soap?
@SoapUniverse I use soap glue for embellishments when piping wouldn't look right or when a soap with a mica line separates because I have a mica overload problem. But I usually just use a dropper for gluing. I save the brushes for painting m&p soap. I've tried carving soap but ended up cutting myself more than the soap, lol.
This was such a cool project!
Thank you!! 😃
What a creative idea. With your soap in the bathroom you may want to put some hairspray on it, the paint will stay on as moisture won't get to it.
That’s actually brilliant! I find those metallics tend to “tarnish” over time. I wonder if using the hairspray as a sealant would fix that. Another problem to fix would be the rigidity of the soap. I had the sword in the pedestal overnight and it’s currently flopping backwards 😂
Such a lovely soap! Directly carving objects out of soap rather than trying to make molds (of course with exception to the large block for the pedestal, even if you ended up carving away the majority of it anyways) is a very neat idea. Difficult for mass production of course, but certainly a lot more personal. I've not worked with melt and pour soap all that often and certainly not for carving, but your "gloop glue" reminded me of hot chocolate bombs in which the maker would melt one side to adhere the chocolate rather than trying to glue them together. If you had a heating pan or candle melter I wonder if using that would've been more effective? Especially since you referenced clay often, I was reminded of my experiences working with clay in which it was too cold, since before sculpting it's common to condition it by moving it and folding it onto itself and letting it naturally heat up via your hands (some exceptions being modelling clay since it's made primarily from wax and melts if it gets too hot). Actually, writing this comment out reminded me that I did carve soap once. I sculpted the sphinx for a school project I think? Although we certainly didn't paint it, it was just a huge white blocky disfigured cat (I hated doing it, but now I can definitely relate more to the inconsistent carving of depth remembering how hard it was to make it look good, even as a kid you've sparked long forgotten memories of my perfectionism at a young age lmao). Truly impressive work!
Thank you! I’m excited for the possibilities that soap carving opens up - it’ll definitely take a bit more practice to get used to, but you could make anything! And that’s a great idea, using a heating pad or something to melt the soap. I actually have a wax melter that would probably work perfectly for that! lol! Do you happen to have a picture of the sphynx? It makes me appreciate the huge amount of work that goes into those marble sculptures. It’s crazy how dedicated some people can be 😳
@SoapUniverse I don’t have pictures of it or anything, I made it before phones were as popular or accessible as they are now, but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if my parents saved it since my mother loves saving things from my school years. I might ask them if they still have it!
The Artist by night is my favorite version of you! ETA... please continue carving soap and being as creative as possible because we are all here for it! 🫧 🫧 👋 👋
Me too! 😃 I’ve still got that painting-on-soap video idea hiding in my notes somewhere!
I've been wanting to do this.. You have read my mind and my heart, maybe my amazon shopping list too..
Have you tried Solar Color Dust Blue Raspberry Slushie scent? It smells *exactly* like blue raspberry candy. And it's not just a mild scent, either. It will straight up punch you in the face with blue raspberry smell.
I have not but that sounds absolutely scrumptious. Blue raspberry is one of my favourite candy flavours!!
(requested roast, 3 months late because youtube is only *just* recommending this to me) Okay, but why does yours look like someone took pepto bismol, turned it into chalk, and then mixed it with a brick of parmesan cheese?
So was it lilacs or lavender that was planted all around the asylum? The photo you show is lavender. Isn't it?😅
I’m not a botanist 😂
Either am I, but I can tell the difference between lavender and lilacs 😉@@SoapUniverse
When someone even says "Musky" i picture a older women that wears clothing 2 decades younger than her Over the top make up And way too much of a perfume that was discontinued in the 80's Or the same for a older man with Aqua velva And that one piece of tissue still on his cheek from a shaving cut 2 hrs prior lol I made a scent for my truck that is a custom brown "rootbeer" color The scent was Anise oil And French vanilla I would pour some on a old scent tree And stuff it in the dash vent ...works for longer than the actual tree did new
Lol! Yeah, musky and ambery scents aren’t really for me - I prefer simpler scents that I’m familiar with. Also that fragrance sounds delicious! I love anise (a lot of people don’t) and French vanilla. I bet you could combine that with orange rind to get a nice mulled wine, wintery scent going.
Pine tar - Free And a scent! Crushed oats - Cheap And great for scrub soap. I live next door to a med size butcher shop that hosted a family members wedding And they had work done from the family member ..sort of a trade off I am sure if i done some haggling I would get Beef tallow free in exchange for a few bars here And there. Oh And activated charcoal also free And worthy of deep cleaning...Really for the Lye And a soap mold I would really like to give this shot ....I'm out in the spring picking wild blueberries next to a vast amount of pines anyways
Sounds like you live a very naturey lifestyle, I love it! I’ve heard of people using pine tar for their soap, and apparently it gives it a nice woodsy minty smell. How do you get pine tar for free may I ask? Yeah, if you get your beef tallow for free then your soap is pretty much free 😂 lucky duck!
@@SoapUniverse I live in Northern Canada "Everything" is naturey There is 300 lakes And rivers with in 1 tank of gas around me. Pine tar you can get from old damaged/dead trees "Fat wood" which is in the wood its self as a orangey sticky super pine resin You take a bunch of these branches And also the sap on trees ..Best way to understand the process is on this video ua-cam.com/video/66QTrrhcsGw/v-deo.htmlsi=vhkvUXztleVbuqR3 (not mine) When i head out to the trails And woods each season has edible items all around you ..Spring time Ramps And some mushrooms, a few types of fish, Birch water, Oh And have you tried making salves?
@ Come to think of it, I didn’t know what a salve was before your comment! Do you have any recipes? I’m in southern Canada 😂 although BC is still very naturey. It’d be fun to make a soap using maple sap! Also, what is birch water? It sounds deliciously intruiging…
hm... every recipe I found contained water in the wet ingredients to harden the bathbombs (and Lush lists it as well) - but the video is entertaining and informative :)
The behavior of these fragrances alone would keep me from buying them.
Ooh new the channel here, theres a huge glut of shitty bathbomb making kits flooding the market so you have plenty of future content lol Will sub ❤
Yay! I’m going to try and keep my eyes peeled for soap and candle ones as well 😃
Also vanilla FO discolors most cosmetics and soaps. Ranging f4om tan to nearly blcak. Bc it contains wait for it vanillan.
Well, guess I'm subbing
Am I the only one that would love to have a dinner party with him in person? Just sit back, relax and talk. 😂 Nothing romantic intended or stalkery etc. Just enjoy the videos so much and the humour... 🤣
If it's any consolation I spent an Amazon gift voucher on candle wax and wooden wicks that won't burn. I even got new wicks and I could hold my phone centimetres above the tiny little flame for several photos.
Wow, that’s terrible! I’ve never used wooden wicks before. Are they finicky? I feel like they would burn really tall so it’s a surprise yours barely even did anything. What a ripoff!
@SoapUniverse I still haven't made the wooden wicks work lol. The whole experience didn't give me any confidence but when I do venture into making candles again I'll be careful to source my materials from a reputable supplier.
@ I think I’ve seen those wicks at Michaels, but they’re so expensive. Wick science is still a bit confusing to me so I think I’ll have to do some more research before buying my next batch!
Powdery textures AND vanilla “essential oil”? Welcome to my nightmare. Thank you for your service!
I literally would've preferred they give me vanilla extract, because at least then it would actually smell like vanilla!
Love your videos. Also was that a cornstarch pouch listed on the box that wasn’t included or was I so blinded by rage at this kit that I missed it?
Lol you were blinded by rage but don't worry, I was too! 😂
This is so funny, hilarious and a little bit sad because it doesn't even foam but these kinds of videos are needed because there were a lot of scams like this 😢😂. So thanks for sharing with us excited to see the cheapest version. ❤
I agree! Especially for something that's sold in a pretty big Canadian retailer. I'm hoping no one else falls for their lies 🙄
Crazy that they decided to include neons which are not Health Canada approved in any bath bomb or cosmetic. 🫠 OMG that mess in your tub! 💀
That's actually a really good point! I'm guessing they probably thought that since they already lied 9 times on the cover alone, following federal label laws was beneath them 🙄
This actually made me feel so much better. I’ve done kits like this and it didn’t work. I thought that I must be stupid because it’s designed for kids and as an adult I failed. Thank you so much for showing me the truth! I’m gonna try again, but get all the ingredients myself 💜 Keep the videos coming. Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎊
It's funny, because I remember doing a melt-and-pour soap kit in the early 2000s and I remember it working perfectly fine and the fragrances all smelled good. Standards have really gone downhill in the past twenty years!
@ Oh, I wonder if there are any of those kits left 🤔 they are probably out of date now 😔
@@PurpleHam I think Royalty Soaps actually did a craft melt and pour soap kit from 2000 and it turned out okay. Soap ages pretty well, but fragrances and some cheaper colours probably wouldn’t. I’d be curious to try one!
I like how you gradually reveal more and more of yourself. I feel like by the end of February we could get a nostril, and maybe by the summer equinox we'll get an eyebrow reveal 😂 And of course you have a cat! Can I ask what their name is and if you could share some cute pictures/videos of them?
Same! I was surprised to see a body attached to the hands 😂
Lol! I’m just a giant meat puzzle where you have to put the pieces together in your mind 😂 His name is Orion, after the constellation! I’ll have to post some pics on my community tab sometime 🐱
@@SoapUniverse oh my gosh such a cute name!
Those of us who watch NerdECrafter know that “includes everything you need” is almost always a lie. 😂
I had to refrain from saying that in her voice when I was recording 😂

the child on the packaging looks just as depressed as the kit itself turned out to be
That was my thought, too 😂
How sad! I thought that Canada had strict regulations about labeling.
Canada is definitely strict about that sort of thing, which is what surprised me the most! Montoy has also been fraught with recalls in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't following the rules.

your channel is so underrated. Loved this!
How much i loved this video. You totally need to make more inspired gift sets. Id like to see a shower products version.
Ooh that’s a good idea. Shower steamers, bath salts, shower gels… lots of ideas! I wonder if I could invent an interesting shower product…
Awesome gifts for your friends and great instructions and discussions about each product.
why dont people use vanilla stabilizers when using fragrances containing vanalin? that was the first thing I learned when soaping and I always use it in every batch! I have home batches of soap 6 mo old or more that havent changed color
I’ve always heard mixed things about vanilla stabilizers! Where do you get yours from? So your soap doesn’t discolour at all?
The chemist in me wants to look into the Sugar Plum fragrance oil and figure out why exactly it did what it did, but I also know I dont have the time to go down this rabbit hole 😭
Trust me, I’ve tried 😂 With other fragrances, I’ve downloaded the SDS sheet and tried to narrow down the problematic aroma compound by process of elimination. So many pointless hours of my life I’m never getting back 😂
@SoapUniverse honestly when I did a quick look at it, my first instinct is that the reaction between your Lye and oils might be getting too hot and it's causing one or more of the components in the fragrance oil to either evaporate completely, or more likely it's causing components yo break down into different compounds. I dont know if that helps at all!
@ That was one of my thoughts, too!
Comment for engagement
You absolutely deserve more views and subscribers, I love your presentation and the editing of your attempts! Thrifting customized gifts and making specialized homemade gifts is something I’ve always enjoyed and doing soap sets is such a smart idea. Amazing job! :)
Thank you! I love trying to dupe popular products and seeing what makes them tick. I especially love reverse engineering the popular ones to see if I can get an exact formula! What kind of homemade gifts do you tend to make?
@ Miniatures, art, sculptures, things of that nature, sometimes I’ll step out of my box and try making earrings or trinket dishes. But I love functional gifts so my gifting has become less and less frequent as I make bigger projects and deal with burnout. Your video is quite the inspiration though, so thank you very much for posting your ideas and remaking attempts lol!
@ I love that! What do you make your miniatures out of? Do you like to paint?
@ I actually make them out of recycled trash and random bits of materials lol. And yea I love painting lol how about you? 👀
