I Turned a Starbucks Latte into Soap

  • I wanted to make a soap inspired by a Starbucks latte, but making just any old homemade cold-processed soap would be a bit boring. That's why I chose to add a REAL Starbucks latte to my soap! And you read the title correctly - this soap is 20% Starbucks latte.
I wanted to make a layered soap because I felt that would capture the "espresso" vibe that the famous coffee house is known for. I also attempt to do some nice latte art on top of the soap and... well... you'll see how that turns out. 😟
I get all of my soap supplies from Voyageur Soap and Candle, which is a soap and candle supply shop based in Vancouver.

As an eczema girly who always has a flare up somewhere I mostly use dermol (a prescription soap that's very hydrating). I feel like someone with coeliac disease watching a baker making pastries 😂

    • @SoapUniverse

My excema is pretty terrible! It eats away at my cuticles and then my nail growth gets stunted. I became reliant on hydrocortisone and then it stopped working lol
Is dermol a hard soap or is it liquid? I just try to lotion up everywhere I go!

@@SoapUniverse dermol is a liquid soap and it really helped me a lot. If you've become tolerant to steroids have you tried putting plain vaseline over your cream/emollients overnight? It's an occlusive that helps to minimise trans-epidermal water loss. Might be worth a try, it's cheap, easily accessible and low risk

@@hadassahm3016 Actually that’s a good suggestion. I use Vaseline for my lips, otherwise they get dried and cracked. Maybe I’ll try putting some on my fingers! I just had a flare up yesterday, so now’s the time to try 😃

I actually show how I make my divider in my “9 soap hacks” video! I don’t remember which hack it is, but it’s definitely in there. You need nice, sturdy cardboard cut precisely to the shape of your mold, and I wrap mine in parchment to both protect the cardboard and fill in any pesky gaps.

I don't like Starbucks. In fact...I dislike it so much that when I was gifted a $50USD gift card last month I gave it away. I'm not a fan of Pumpkin Pie Spice either though I do make a single 5lb batch every year. Nice job on the layers.

That’s fair! Sometimes they’re hit or miss, but their Frappuccino’s are pretty consistently good. Do you drink coffee at all or do you avoid it at all costs?

Oh no, you do not want to see me until I have had my first cup of the elixir of the gods. LOL I like Dutch Bros, but it's 'road trip' coffee or Black Friday coffee, elsewise I'm okay with most dark roast and my International Delights Irish Cream.

@@LadyGecko ooh Irish cream and coffee is wonderful! I find the double double from McDonalds surprisingly good so that’s normally my go to when I don’t make it myself. I’ve tried espresso on its own but it’s too bitter for me 😂

@@GemmaleeDee Hmm, I wonder if the vibrant blue butterfly pea flower tea would hold up through saponification? It has such a gorgeous blue colour. And matcha of course is a great green! Maybe I’ll make a layered London fog soap for those rainy days…
It’s funny because I’ve never heard of Dutch Bros! I live right next to Washington, too… maybe I’ve just never paid attnetion. Tim Hortons is the OG Canadian coffee place! It’s now become a bit of a fast food joint. Their black coffee is pretty bad but their lattés are good and they have some tasty lunch options. Oh, and their donut selection wants to be like Krispy Kreme so bad hahah

@@SoapUniverse I started thinking about the butterfly pea tea after posting as well and thought dang! I should have mentioned that one too! such a pretty color..
I looked at locations and the nearest location to Canada in Washington is in Marysville, so maybe thats why? It seems a bit distant from the border. If you ever happen to be down that way though, maybe give them a try. The caramelizer is super sweet but yummy (I usually get it hot during the winter and blended during the warmer months) and the hot chai is nice as well :)

Your soap is beautiful! I did a latte soap with coffee in it 6 ways and the scent I chose, Carmel coffee, didn't come through at all. So disappointed. But, the soap is wonderfully scrubby since I added espresso grounds in it. Doesn't smell great, but it's a wonderful soap. Well done!

Why do you pour on your spatula and not directly at the soap batter??

    • @SoapUniverse

The spatula breaks the fall, so if the underlying batter is still a bit soft the layer will stay flat!
