22 yards short of the driver-not bad for hitting a difficult club like ghe 1 iron. Play with a wilson 15 degree utility iron which is 1 iron loft etc and hit well would go a long way but conditions need to be dry. Love to see you do a round with the 1 iron james. A great round again

If it isn’t raining real hard, snowing, or very hot, I’ll play. Getting out and walking is better than staying in the house. Don’t care about handicap unless you’re playing in tournaments.

1 iron off the tee requires teeing the ball up higher than you’d think, plus it needs to be forward in your stance. Thanks for an enjoyable post, James. Cheers!

I really enjoy playing in tough conditions when others get scared off by the weather. You did pretty well for such a windy and wet day. And I always take advantage and hit multiple practice balls whenever possible. The range does not provide the right type of practice to improve. Funny you mentioned not getting a pint afterwards. I was going to ask why not. Now I'm thirsty! Cheers.

playing in crazy high wind is excellent for training and gaining confidence on the course and understanding how to control the flight of the golf ball...best round of my life was playing in 50 mph wind last year on the isle of man in january ....so crazy and enjoyable...just no point playing in crazy rain

Yes, he could and should have replied to your email. That said, he was perfectly polite and explained the situation so all the negative comments about him are completely unfair. Oh yes, your backswing is too short with no pause at the top.

I had a motorcycle accident many years ago which left me with a broken back - after a few years of hospitals and body braces.. I had to re-learn to use my leg again, I didnt swing a golf club for maybe 7-8 years.. So my point is.. if your able bodied and reasonably healthy just get out and enjoy every moment of it no matter the weather. Because there will be a time in life when you can't. Now I play in the rain, wind, snow, drizzle and sleet (all prime summer Welsh weather! 😂). I've even been out there with my hand in plaster cast 😂 No such thing as bad weather in my book.. just bad clothing that can't deal with it 👍

I played in awful conditions quite recently (40mph wind/rain) - but it was a competition, so I had no choice but to play. The positives were I know I can play in extreme wind/rain + I also know, if wanting to play a general round - I can probably give that day a miss and go practice at the range instead!

I agree with you, I don't mind playing in windy conditions as it makes you think more about your game instead of just hitting and hoping you make a good shot! Can't wait for the next video ⛳

I played in 70 mph winds at Carne golf course in Ireland. It was well worth it. 'Wrath of Carne" You Tube video shows the real thing.

James a good round in difficult conditions. Loved that you included a few of your extra shots, the one iron was fantastic! I’ve always worked on when it’s breezy, swing eezy!

It's never a waste of time. You don't have to turn the card in or save the score. Heck, keeping score is optional.

Love playing when it’s really windy, just go out and have some fun , try and play your best , when that weekend club comp comes around and it’s windy you will have some idea how to play in windy conditions.

Played Prestatyn a few weeks back. Started off windy but then turned very wet and very windy - complete waste of time. Drenched, miserable and didn't enjoy it. We walked off after 10 holes.

Just to offer some IMPORTANT information James. Under the WHS scores recorded on days such as this are subject to adjustment. Where 20 or more Cards (I think) are recorded officially at a course then if taking into account the relevant CHs AND weather conditions then a "Playing Conditions" is applied. So, if the course has played easier (due to fairways running and easier pin positions) then good low scores submitted may be deemed as less impressive and a PCC adjustment ADDED to Our scores. The converse is also true and more likely. So if 20+ Cards are returned in bloody difficult conditions (howling wind, pouring rain and impossible pin locations) then WHS can effectively adjust the value of ALL Cards returned that day. The degree of adjustment isn't massive but is vital (ranging from +1 to -3 IIRC). Then, wet fairways. Apply "Winter Course Rules" but also. if your ball comes to rest in "Casual Water" (defined I think) by placing your foot adjacent to the ball and applying your full weight, IF your shoe is surrounded by a "halo" of water then You MAY elect to find a drier spot (FOR THE Ball) not nearer the hole without penalty. Your round today is an EXCELLENT opportunity to delve into the Rulebook and look for appropriate beneficial Ruling Opportunities because they really do exist.

I’ll play when it’s windy or raining but not both anymore. To difficult to keep your clubs dry. Unless I’ve started, then I’ll play until the pub opens😅

Correct me if I’m wrong. But if you stand and water comes to the surface around your feet. You get free relief, no closer to the hole, until there is no more water from where you’re stood. That shot from the fairway you could’ve moved with no penalty.

Any day on the course is a blessed day, lower expectations play with the conditions and enjoy the round. We get lots of heavy wind here but my home course is parklands so somewhat sheltered but still massive impact with wind. At times its 2 clubs but it develops your golf for sure and can be fun with those super long drives past 300 yards :-). I guess you get soggy fairways but the soft greens I would love.

Being on a golf course is almost never a waste of time....look, if it's sleeting and 70mph winds, ok (unless you're playing Royal County Down or something)

Good score in those conditions, i like to play in winter in challenging weather, keeps you’re game ticking over.

Would rather play in that condition instead of sitting here on my bum watching you. Then again...heavy wind and rain is where it's a no for me as it's no fun.

If playing in very windy conditions then it's good to practice the low punch shots out of the wind. On the 3rd hole it looked like you had casual water where water can seep out in your footprints so you could try and find a drier place no closer to the hole and play from there without penalty shots.

I'll take the wind...but it's the rain that'll do for me. I also realised that as I got older my body doesn't work so well in colder temps...This must mean that I need to plan a golf Thailand trip 👍

Not to come across as unsociable but, I quite like it when the weather is a bit rough sometimes. It normally ends up with not many others being out so I get to just practice on the course without worrying about holding people up. Not once have I got in after a round in awful weather and wished I had given it a miss.

you have the putting game of a single figure handicapper,you seemed to swing faster than your normal swing,maybe pretend that every drive is down wind-makes it a little smoother and more in control

Wasn’t in mood today, cold wet and rain predicted. Course already wet so no real hopes of any good golf! Shot 81 +9, 42 points and my first ever hole in one! Just shows you what can happen if you persevere!

I hate playing in weather. I use to play anytime and day, but as I’ve gotten older I always look to the weather before making tee times!
