A SIMPLE FIX FOR AN ANNOYING LAND ROVER PROBLEM

A SIMPLE FIX FOR AN ANNOYING LAND ROVER PROBLEM
I would put the spare on the rear wheel carrier but as I understand it, the ORE wheel carrier for the full rear door doesn't work with the half door that you now how installed. Can you retro fit it to work or will you have to get a new ORE wheel carrier for the half door.?
I have had a look and spoken to the guys at ORE - I just need to change the plate that mounts to the door for one specifically designed for a half door
I would use hammerite on the gear stick and pedals. No masking or removing and it gives that nice finish after. They do different colours now as well. 👍
Awesome! Would you please share the link? Much appreciated!

How's the Puma vs TD5's reliability for Africa expeditions?
What about the new defender white wheels. That would look awesome. Or even standard steel wheels in white....
Oh nah bro. What about a hired spray gun setup. Do it right the first time
You can use heatshrink on the gear lever to give it that fresh new look. Plus if it gets damaged it’s easy enough to cut the heat shrink off and fit another bit
Nice idea!
The original colour lights would look great or smoked with the blue would look cool, definitely put the ORE wheel carrier back on, Standard straight front bumper is the way to go, coir matting I like that think about it in the back as well, the steering wheel is a little faded and would look good freshened up black but also a nice wood rimmed would look awesome. good luck with the rest of the build.
🤙Looks great.. it’s all in the preparation.. which you did an awesome job of…
Wooden steering wheel for sure, and a silver mesh grill
I would definitely put the spare on a swing away rear carrier unless classic skinny wheels your ones will be too big for the bonnet . Other things I would do would be classic military style rear bumperettes , possibly painted silver ,with silver rear crossmember and silver painted front bumper . Classic land rover fold down rear and side steps. Series 3 door bottoms and sliding glass tops which you can then remove in the summer when you roll the canvass sides up, or take it off altogether. In addition you can fit old style 90/110 windscreen hinges so you can then fold the windscreen down onto the bonnet !. Classic polished wooden steering wheel too. A silver or mesh grill would then round off a properly retro truck look .
When tackling the dash: Obviously get vent surrounds. Consider a rev counter. Easy job for a td5, mostly wiring, as u need to tap into the ecu for a signal.
Spare wheel on the rear, weight on member. Anything else (on rear door or bonnet) will fail. Noooo! Do not body-color headlight surround, looks wrong. Good idea to paint mirror backings, use black color. Splash out on proper rust protection , Fluidfilm, wax oil or similar. You never aid what the intended use for the car: Long or short journeys? On- or offroad?? Kinda defines what mods you will be advised on. Consider: Wheels: Gearing, revs and noise. Noise proofing: Maybe not so valid for an open top. Get relays for the headlight current flowing not trough dashboard. Is it kept in a garage or not? Is theft a concern? If so, consider security upgrades. Bulkhead removal for better cabin space. Nice video and camera work, well done.
It is looking great! 👌 If you’d gone with bare galvanized capping on the bed and the rear, I’d say leave it without the spare tire to show it off. But since it’s painted and one uniform colour, it looks like something is missing to my eye. Were it mine, I would put the tire carrier back on.
Thanks! You make a good point about breaking up the panels now that they are painted
My dash and binnacle are also messed up - missing fasteners and broken tabs. I recently saw a metal binnacle and binnacle mount from a company called Raptor Engineering that I thought would be a good option.
Yeah I’ve seen these too - look like a good solution to all the tabs being broken and cracked, I’ll have to look into it
Bravo, the beast looks fantastic!
Thanks a lot!
Looks great! I’d go no rear spare wheel carrier, and I’d keep the clear rear lights as well
I’ve just sent a message on instagram about the LED lights, 90’s looking great!
MMMMM, I'd rethink the inward-facing rear bench seats and opt for two forward-facing and actually usable seats. My opinion...
Also, resto is looking great!
Thanks!
Yes, put ORE rear tire carrier. You should have a spare tire,so....
Yep, I think it’ll be going back on
I can't see anything on their website but I would give LR Parts a ring for the dashboard fixings as I'm pretty sure they carry fixing kits for that sort of thing.
Wheel on Bonnet. NAS Rear steps.
Looks great. I suggest bulkhead delete bar…… NAS read LED lights. Definitely refit ORE carrier. Standard bumper. Exmoor Trim bench seats. Keep window blocks original but repainted etc. standard steering wheel 👍👍
Thanks! Some great suggestions there!
@@ScoutTheDefender. As a re think, you could alternatively fit the spare wheel on the bonnet. That would be good too. I agree that the flat back end would look good. But Use NAS led. In my opinion. 😊
Go back with coloured lights and put the wheel carrier back on
Definitely keen to go back with coloured lights
Looking great so far. Lovely colour matching. Remind us how much you paid for the base vehicle before mods?
Thank you! I purchased the car for £10k
looking good i would put spare wheel on carrier if your putting steel wheels on choice is up to you all the best
Liking the idea of steels!
put the spare wheel on the bonnet! that would look sick
perhaps i'm a purest wanker, but OD green would be my choice. It's your beautiful old girl so. if ya love it, good on ya chum :)
The Landy is already blue from factory and didn’t fancy the task of a full respray - do agree though, a green would look great!
Keep the back open even in the winter , canvass needs to be well ventilated or it will start to rot within 12 months. Also never keep the canvass rolled up when wet as when it dries it shrinks and it will never fit properly again.
Great tips! Thanks
Looks brilliant. Fair play!
Hey do you have the hard canopy there? I would like to buy it off you, if you wanna sell it....cheers///
I have owned Land rovers for over 25 years. My question is Why would you NOT daily drive a Defender if you own one ? I currently have a 300tdi and have driven it from UK to South of Switzerland and back. In Winter it is perfect.
🇧🇭🙏🏼
Hi, where did you get the rear door from?
The rear door was from DDS Metal 👍🏼
Looks spot on. The tan really compliments the blue
Thanks!
Looks amazing & very traditional. Have you thought about having the spare wheel on the bonnet?
Thanks! That’s definitely something to consider 🤔
Only good for old skinny land rover tyres . Bigger off road tyres are a pain there. You reduce your forward visibility massively and the added weight on the bonnet can bend it , and make it difficult to open with just the weight. A swing away carrier on the back s your best bet.
Looks fantastic! 🙌🏻
Thanks mate, stoked with it!
Very nice 👏
Thanks 😊
Looks awesome! 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
ZACH! ZACH! ZACH!!!!! Bloody fantastic! I am so so so so happy you went with the sand colour canvas, looks absolutely banging with the Blue! YAS!!!!!! Wonderful 😍😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much mate, I’m really happy with the final look!
Honestly… looks absolutely awesome 🤩 Just what I had in my head all those months ago when you were asking about colours for the body and canvas… You have done an AMAZING job. You should be VERY proud of yourself 😊
Blues looking amazing Same colour canvas as mine too but my Landy is green with black alloys My hood is always rolled up,back and sides Obviously garaged and only comes out in the dry 👍
Thanks mate! Giving the canvas a couple of weeks to settle, then will be getting the sides rolled up
Hope you love it as much as I love mine Soft tops are so much more fun Enjoy it pal Great job, congrats 👍
It's looking amazing! Inspiring me for my re-build 😊
Thanks guys! Look forward to watching yours
Seat belt fixings - don’t change for stainless steel they’re high tensile steel for a very good reason. Changing to stainless steel will compromise your safety.
Remember aluminium and stainless steel do not play well together. You need to make sure they are not in direct contact.
Great work your 90 is looking the business. Making me think I should tidy up my old 90’s bodywork. 👍
Is this 1k paint or 2k paint you've used?
Absolutely fantastic progress! It is looking AMAZING!!! 🤩 And... You used the world "fettle"... Not heard that for years!
I love the attention to detail - Inspiring me to try doing my paint myself.
Thanks so much, go for it!
should of removed the rear tub to paint the chassis. not difficult to do, could have it off in an hour
Yeah in hindsight I probably should have - hadn’t appreciated it was that easy to do
