The Problem With YouTube Pastors
UA-cam is great for supplementing your theological teaching from solid creators. However, it is no replacement for the local church. I encourage you to join a Bible-believing local church and be equipped for the work of ministry.

I have long enjoyed videos like this because they give me ideas about things that may be useful to me. So out of pure fun, I decided to make a video about what I carry in my bag with me every day. Every day carry, or EDC, is such a broad spectrum depending on how small or large you want to go. Hope this is helpful or at least enjoyable in some way. Schuyler PSQ In Desert Camel (ESV)
I just finished Al Mohler’s book on the Apostles’ Creed and found it very insightful. As someone who came to Christ later in life (only about 12 years ago; I’m now 53), resources such as creeds (and good podcasts, and eventually finding a good Bible-believing church) have certainly helped to instruct me in the faith.
Pastor Colton, the church I have attended for almost 20 years has been without a pastor for 2 years. I am hungry for God’s word, and have been visiting other churches. It is a hard decision to leave and find one that meets my criteria: biblical teaching, truthful worship, and a sound system where I don’t have to wear earplugs! And a Sunday school class that teaches the Bible. I dont watch much tv, and love to learn more about what is the difference in Christian denominations. UA-cam channels like yours are very helpful, thanks for sharing your views. I hope to be in church on Sunday.
This is definitely fair. The irony of this message you have no idea. The last few years I’ve visited so many churches and watched so many things and studied on my own too. I want to find a local church to belong too. I usually watch a few streams to see what they are about and go if I like it. I’m somewhere in between catholic/ orthodox or Baptist/non denominational after everything I’ve looked through, and how the last couple years everything shifting so much. It’s a hard place to decide. Pray for me Great video as always
Praying you find a local body to connect with 🙏
@ thank you 🙏
Amen brother, thanks for your real and wholesome content! ✝️
Thank you for watching 😊
I’m sure this was a great video. However, I didn’t listen.
@@lukedailey well done
This looks like a nice edition. I currently have one sitting in my shopping cart. I think it was a little slow to take off, but it looks like it’s starting to get some attention from Bible reviewers.
WOW!! I never knew this was a real thing. Who really cares how much you spent on your bible?
I think there are some circumstances where it's acceptable for fallen pastors to be restored as a pastor again, I think there are some circumstances where it's acceptable for fallen pastors to be restored as pastors again after a significant amount of time of them not being pastors, not being in ministry, etc, and I think there are some circumstances where fallen pastors should never work as pastors ever again for the rest of their life. Pastors that molest children, rape people, take advantage of elderly people, abuse vulnerable people, steal thousands of dollars from people, commit fraud, etc should never work as pastors ever again for the rest of their life. Pastors that commit adultery need to be held accountable for what they did and receive an appropriate punishment for what they did. Adultery is a sin. Adultery is the kind of sin that warrants pastors being held accountable job wise for what they did. I think there are some circumstances where it's acceptable for a pastor who commits adultery to work as a pastor again after a significant amount of time of them not being in the ministry, not working a pastor, etc, and I think there are some circumstances where pastors who commit adultery should never work as a pastor ever again for the rest of their life.
ALL True Believers read the ASV.....
I love the black one specifically, like you have, because nothing is stamped on the front.
@@davidtaylorjr1985 same!
is the font good in the notes section for reading sessions ?
It’s not bad. Small but still quite readable.
If I didn’t have a lazy eye, that would be my EDC Bible. But I can’t really read single column.
@@Twiceborn_by_grace understandable
I’ve been watching Bible reviews and I found one that Professor Umbridge would like. Can you guess which one? I’ll give you a clue. It’s premium.
@@Twiceborn_by_grace lol. I have no clue.

$$$ It's all about that money. The text will never be complete. The ever changing face of the modern critical text.
Hi Colton, as this was posted a year ago, you may not see this post. I am a senior who could never afford one of those premium Bibles. That doesn't mean I wouldn't love one. I feel there is nothing wrong with owning and showing a premium Bible-unless it's to boast about being able to afford one, and we can't. From what I see watching your posts, you not only love the outside you also love the inside. I spend my days reading the Kindle version of the NLT Life Application Bible with the Mathew Henry commentary in unison. So in conclusion I believe it doesn't matter what the Bible looks like as long as you are studying God's word. Bless you, Colton, and continue your great content ' Your Brother in Christ Rex
I agree with you. I can't get totally devoted to the newer versions, especially getting into the ESV, then I always hear about an update. The NASB, NIV, and the NRSV have all reeled me in, and then an update pops up. I agree. I'm going to have to go with a Bible that has staying power. I'm still deciding on the KJV or the NKJV.
If I were to move it would be to the NKJV
Stuff like this can be helpful. However, I think all people should do the hard work and read primary sources to truly learn them. Read the Ordinatio by Bl. John Duns Scotus, Read the Writings of St. Bonaventure, and Read the Summa by St. Thomas Aquinas. Outside of this I have a book list of essentials in relation to logic, philosophy, and additional theology (specific studies within the broad category)
I understand where you are coming from, but the reality is a lot of people won’t. Not everyone has the time or the reading comprehension for those things. A book like this would help them at least get started in caring more about theology. Blessings.
I picked up a couple of these for my wife and I. It will used as part of our devotions in 2025.
Nice!
I picked up a copy of this on Pre-Order in Logos and have been reading through it bit by bit. And I will say even as someone who has a degree in theology, I have been enriched by the resource. Kevin DeYoung did a very good job in making doctrine accessible in easily digestible chunks day to day. Wonderful resource.
Yes 🙌🏻
Never used a clarion but I’m sure it’s awesome like all of their offerings. Shout out for the cheap man’s Clarion - NKJV Single column compact bible
Very good choices, but I would likely go ESV and NLT. ESV seems to be the best formal equivalence translation today, seems to have the most scholarship behind it. NLT has a GREAT team that has worked on the best thought for thought translation for ease of reading and understanding. For formal study, ESV. For comfortable reading, NLT. I still use many more and enjoy the NKJV for similar reasons to the NLT, my understanding is though that the NKJV is based solely on the KJV, which does not have or use transcripts that were discovered after the printing of the KJV. I also enjoy KJV for beautiful old style language. I also like to consult the NET version because the language scholarship behind it is amazing.
This is important and only possible with God.
We should *confess* the Creeds.
so.... in other words, just read the NKJV folks
Or NASB…
@coltonyarbro Except that NaSB reads awkward in many places and it doesn't contain all of the debated passages (like 1 John 5:7)
I hate seeing these types of videos and they have little to no likes. Just makes me sad that people aren't listening to the truth.
He's got 60 likes now 👍
Probably better to have a Bible reference book that provides the chronology as a study help.
Is this size ideal or do you like the new PSQ without the yapp?
@@pollycronopolis7648 haven’t ever held the one without the yapp so I couldn’t say.
@ gotcha is this Bible ideal size wise for you?
@ it’s a pretty great size in my opinion.
@ do you like the old size Schuyler PSQ ESV as much as the alpha?
@ I’ve never handled the old size either. Sorry I’m not very helpful.
Well said! As evangelicals, we tend to turn our backs on church history when there is so much out there that is valuable and profitable to us as it has been throughout the history of the church. The creeds help to guide us in correct belief and practice and I would love to see the various branches of evangelicalism embrace them more wholeheartedly. I especially adore the Apostles' Creed, but all the orthodox statements have a place in the church universal. The early Reformers did not desire to obliterate the whole of Christian history, but merely to refine it and take it back to a place where it was more doctrinally pure. The early creeds certainly reflect this doctrinal purity. As you say, they do not replace Scripture, but they are an important supplement to the Bible.
Hi I agree with you 100%very good job. 😊
Creeds might bring historical understanding, but do nothing for Biblical debates about things such as trinity. God didn’t give the creeds, men did and there for are subject to being flawed😢. We must stick to scripture given by God
But yet they are in line with the scripture so therefore your opinion is invalid
@ if they say what scripture does then they are not needed just use the scripture
It’s amazing how many things can be settled with creeds and confessions. Almost like that’s why the early church made them. Great video as always
I really enjoy your videos. Whether it be long form video like this or your Shorts (biblical humor and ones behind the pulpit).
Thanks brother
4:09 Resurrected Jesus 5:43 Emotional Manipulation 9:04 Love the Lord
One thing of note...We also need help in understanding the creeds. There are great resources out there for this as well.
Would you take a psq Schuyler or NASB history?
What is an NASB history? Never heard of that.
@ it’s a compact NASB 2020 that humble lamb designed and is full of art inside with a little color illumination
A chronological Bible is great when your intended purpose is to read the Bible chronologically. I purchased mine to do specifically that, and have been very happy with my experience. It’s not the best option if you’re new to Bible reading in general. This would seem obvious to us who’ve been Christians for a while, but new Christian’s most likely don’t understand why, not being familiar with why the canan is ordered they way it is and the different literary styles of each book. Thinking from the perspective of someone new to Bible reading, I can definitely imagine them making the mistake of choosing a chronological version because chronologically ordered historical literature seems to make the most sense at first glance.
Amen 🙏🙌❤
Amen!
I’m an usher at church and I’ve gotten so discouraged at counting the same 20-30 people. But you reminded me what faithfulness is by making me think of those 20-30 people. (Words are hard. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.)
Tim Nichols has a point. TR or no TR, NKJV is at least stable.
I enjoyed your review. You mirrored alot of my thoughts about this Bible as I am nearly at the end also. But I don't quite agree about 'one use' as I think it will be useful as reference material when reading other editions and wanting to check on the chronological order of events one is reading about. As for not being able to find specific passages it has a complete scripture index at the back of the book. I have found it to be really engaging to read throughout the year, especially where it gives the exact date in history of many of the prophecies.
Haha! Too funny! First time seeing your snake impression 😂😂
For note taking create your own simple index.
Is the ESV alpha your favorite EDC ESV?
@@pollycronopolis7648 at the moment, yes. Though I do also love the Cambridge Clarion
As a historian, the chronological order is incredibly helpful in teaching the flow of ideas and theology. I think you’re missing the point regarding notes.😊
Wouldn’t be the first point I’ve missed.
My dumb brain read it like this: Paul Gathering. Wood at Malta.
😂
I love these shorts because you actually have to have knowledge of the Bible to see the humor. 😂
😂
I am thinking of getting a chronological Bible for church history and biblical history e.g. a better picture of the biblical and church history perhaps? Yes or no? Would welcome your comments on this post Colton. Thank you!
@@craig3540 yes I think they are very helpful for that sort of thing.
Hi there, can you answer this question for me: Did the Lord Jesus Christ ever lie? Thank you.
Colton-would a Table of Contents fix the cons in your opinion?
Unfortunately no. The text is just to spread out due to the chronological layout.
@@ryanbrown-iw2oh also there is one in the back. They call it a “scripture index” and it takes up many pages. It’s definitely possible to find stuff, but would change the cons for me. Too much flipping around to simply get where you need to go.
