Amen, you gained another sub, God Bless Brother 🕊🤍💛 A great movie who portrays Jesus is Ben Hur (the original one). Because you cannot see His face and it creates a mystery.
Colton, thank you for your thoughtful take on this touchy subject. I agree with you. I've never seen, nor will I see the Chosen. I have friends who love it. I think the thing that puts me off is what you said about people finding it difficult to read and understand the Bible while thinking that the Chosen is a good replacement. I've even had church members tell me we should use the Chosen for Bible Study; that's a big "no" for me - Bible study will focus on the Bible, not fiction. Now, for Christians in the Word, I don't think the Chosen should be taboo - but for those who don't read the Word, they need to get into the Word! And yeah, I've struggled with the consistency thing, too. I have a painting of Jesus on the cross, painted by a local painter (No, I'm not Catholic - I'm a WV Baptist pastor), and I enjoy classical artist renderings. Would I have a photo-realistic painting of Jesus in my home or office? No, for much the same reason you mentioned about an actor being, I don't know, not mistaken or viewed as Jesus, but the "image" of Jesus when praying or reading and imagining. Like you, I think the cons outweigh the pros.
Thank you for your thoughts. I believe "the chosen" is some of the best use of modern cinematography. For me, I dont watch TV. I dont watch series. I dont really watch movies. But the Chosen is worth the 'TV time" ! ....especially compared to anything else available to watch. Also we all have to be mature enough to NOT be the weaker brother. If Christ is sanctified in your minds, then how can anyone sin or act against His spirit?
I am a visual learner & it has helped me understand/see some things differently. I DO NOT idolize it whatsoever. I agree with you. Nobody knows what Jesus looks like, we all creat that image in our head & heart. Some folks I’m sure put their faith in the show. I also agree with you saying it has gotten people to the WORD more and that’s the most important thing! Amen & God bless you for your time & honesty!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I had not looked at it from that perspective, you brought up some very good points that I myself will have to think on and work through. My objection to it is that at its heart it is a historical drama based on facts, just as you mentioned. What I don't like is the inordinate amount of time given to storylines that are fictional in order to "fill out" the story. While I understand this may be thought necessary given the format and medium being used, I still don't like it. While I do believe that it is important to highlight an individual's struggle with accepting and following Jesus, given all the obstacles that this can entail, I feel there has been too much liberty taken in this area and this in turn dilutes the message trying to be conveyed.
I 100% agree with you and admire your forthrightness in processing your thoughts and sharing your inconsistencies. Thank you for that. Recently, I have even reconsidered all the Nativities I have collected thinking I was keeping Christ in Christmas by displaying them at Christmas. I am reexamining whether or not this is what God would want . I too, just want to be living in such a way as to be honoring to God, being faithful to keep His commandments.
I agree, brother. I watched up to the fourth season and stopped. I struggled in that I saw the actor’s face when I would think of Jesus. I also had an issue with how much more extrabiblical it got as the seasons progressed.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve heard arguments from friends who say that there is no way people will actually think of the actor when they pray. I have definitely heard otherwise and I appreciate your honesty about it.
I agree, another take away is the Bible states no one is to add or take away from the Bible, stories like the chosen ADD things to the Bible, no one knows what really what happened behind the scenes or how people, Bible characters, interacted with each other, other than what is in the Bible. Yes, the Bible is sufficient and it tells us not to do these things nor worship any graven image, this includes Christ as no one can say what he looked like and we should not pretend what Jesus looks like.
Hey sir if I may ask , what denomination are you ? Etc I’m Torah observant / whole Bible (but not Hebrew roots) , so no matter what you say it can’t be more hated than what I am lol . Good video ❤
@@coltonyarbrothank you . When you brought up not having images of Jesus etc , that’s something that makes sense to me but the Christians I talk to get mad when I say things like that . Awesome sir . Have a great Friday
First, it seems to me that you have a good understanding of Romans 14, and you are truly just discussing your thoughts on the topic. Bravo! I am thrilled with the parts of the series that are directly from the Bible. To see Jesus heal the man at the pool or Jesus meeting Nathaniel is so great for this visual learner. I know of someone who came to faith after watching it. We are called to be fishers of men, Dallas is using The Chosen as "bait". He encourages viewers to read the Bible for themselves. These are my thoughts. Also... I'd like to commend you on being a spiritual leader for you kids! Well done!
I've heard of it but like what you said most shows or movies of Jesus aren't that good. for me I don't watch it, and the bible gives us a clear vision of who Jesus is and how he does things.
As an ex Catholic I do not watch the chosen. When I discovered the second commandment had been changed by the Catholics I was angry. I think the chosen is not only against the second commandment “make nograven images” it distorts the scriptures and the people in them. it adds to the Bible.
I agree. for me i think it's more the algorithm on IG that makes me warry of it. you watch one clip then you get bombarded with other clips, and the clips of the actor who talks about things on a reel, and it's.... idk it's hard to describe on the feeling i get when I see from it, but it's just off to me. I'm sure it's a great show, more power to you, but I too will not watch it.
Dallas is adding to the Bible and that's why I quit watching. There's a reason why Jesus's first miracle wasn't first in the chosen. Dallas is dragging all of the actors in with him.
@@coltonyarbro He is putting words into Jesus's mouth that HE didn't say like 'I am the law of Moses". I warned Dallas by adding the scriptures that say do not add to the word. I warned him of where he is going. Pride will lead MANY to the lake of fire.

I have to disagree. This is a great series and the cast, crew, writers and director take it very serious. It is entertainment and you should give it a chance. This is done very well. Tv has so much garbage but this is not and people are not circumventing bible study or church because of entertainment.
Thanks for your reply. I definitely understand it from a perspective of all the garbage on tv. I still don’t think it’s for me, but I get where you are coming from.
I’m commenting only five minutes in, but I love your answer so far. There are too many “Jesus” pictures of Jim Caviezel and Johnathan Roumie. I watch The Chosen because it helps with my Bible study. Years ago, I watched that History Channel miniseries and Jesus goes into Lazarus’ tomb, kisses his cheek and whispers for him to get up. That’s not scriptural at all and it takes the power of Jesus away.
I have watched the Chosen or at least some seasons of it. I haven't donated to their cause to produce more seasons simply because I have better causes to contribute to. I have watched it for what it is which is simply a tv series. I don't think all the hype is worth it ,of course many television series as of late captivate audiences to an obsessive degree like Game of Thrones, Yellowstone and on and on. I believe the Chosen is in this category but is by no means a way to build a relationship with God.
@@coltonyarbro I do agree with your point of view as a father of young children and that you want them to have the right impression of our Savior and not a worldly view of Him. In my opinion that's "parenting 101". God bless.
Obviously, you are one of those cheezy theologians who won't read Paul because he said, 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. ... 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that... Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. You must also have serious problems with the Catholic church.

A question to ask watchers of The chosen:
Do you read your Bible more each day?
Does the Holy Spirit LEAD your life?
Very good questions for all of us to answer honestly.
