I agree with this preacher. I was brought up in a denomination that mainly used the RSV. I discovered the KJV as a young college student and fell in love with it. The KJV was put together at a time when educated men read lots of poetry and I think that the choice of words and the emphasis on style and beauty are what make the KJV great. Scholars also studied "Rhetoric" as a science AND art form back then. Modern Bible scholars (the orthodox ones) are well-intentioned but their prose comes across as somewhat leaden.
Me my dad and all of our fellowship was based on KJV only. I was taught verses in KJV in Sunday school and its so embedded in my head that once I wanted to try other translations and went to the Bible store and picked up like 7 different translations but I couldn't go outside the wall of KJV. However I am not a KJV only person. I have a lot of respect and reverence to all believers. If GOD wants to speak to you through NIV or NLT or CSB. Who am I to say anything about it. We as Christians need to have that love and reverence for each other. May GOD bless you and speak to you from whatever translation you like. 🙏🏼😇
I’m reading through the KJV right now, I’ve just made it to Ezekiel. Admittedly the psalms, Isaiah, and Jeremiah really captured my attention with the KJV language. I did struggle through king and chronicles, though.
I am 61 and grew up with the KJV as the only Bible I knew about but struggled to understand it. When I was about 17 discovered my grandmother had a Living Bible and secretly read it since I was in a KJV-only church. Thankfully, when I was 19 I joined a church with a well-educated pastor from Dallas Seminary who promoted the NIV. Reading NIV (1984) transformed my understanding of the Bible. I put the KJV aside for many years. I eventually studied Greek, Hebrew, German, and Shakespeare. This made the KJV understandable and I came to enjoy it. I really recommend people use the KJV in audio to truly enjoy it.
I love that you said the doctrines of the Bible are intact in the different translations. That is what I have always said. I think the most important thing is that you read your Bible ❤

Personally, in the Bible Studies that I lead, I've decided to use the Nasb1995 as my primary translation, but I'm always checking the Kjv because the Pastors at my Church preach from the Kjv. Esv is great, Nkjv is good too. I love the Hcsb. Niv 1984 was used mightily by God as well. I was actually using a Parallel Bible that had the Kjv, Nkjv, Niv1984 & and Nlt1996, because the guys going to my group were all using different versions [go figure]. I really just love the Word of God!! Note: when I asked my Church's Senior Pastor about Bible Translations, he stated that he used all of them, which is a good answer 😎
I missed the giveaway, that crossway woulda been mine if I would have made it in… The Psalms alone are a great reason to have a KJV in your library. Beautiful.
I didn't expect this. I really appreciate your take on the KJV! I started out on moderns for many years and started to fizzle out in my studies. Then switched to the KJV out of curiosity and it sort of rekindled my love for the Word. Sad to see some people stick their nose up at it. They dont know what they're missing! Ps. I am reading that exact Bible right now. Same leather and all. Amazing Bible!
I LOVE my KJV, and my NKJV, and my NASB, and ESV, and, more recently, the CSB and NLT! I was saved in 1988 in a KJV only church. I stumbled upon the NKJV while strolling around my local Christian bookstore in 1989 and immediately fell in love with it. For years and years I only used those two translations, even though I was starting to hear about other translations that were becoming more commonly used in other churches. I was introduced to the NASB in my women's Bible study group when we started using the Precept Inductive Bible Study method by Kay Arthur. I struggled with that translation for a while, I think because I was so used to The King. But I overcame the challenge and I have since learned to embrace the value of many other translations. I still have a love affair with The King though, truth be told!
Im new to the channel and i really enjoy your videos. Ive been watching for about a month now. At the moment im reading through an NIV study bible. Ive also purchased the ESV, NASB 95, KJV, NJKV, CSB, and the NLT. Ive been saved for about a year and a half and the Holy Spirit has really been on me to learn Gods word. I like to compare scripture when im putting together a word for Church or bible study. I thank you for doing what you do. Keep up the good work. God Bless 🙌 🙏
I went to a KJV only church when I was in the military. Fantastic people, great mission minded church, and I truly felt at home there. But the bible version had become an idol to them. The grammar and syntax aren't the important part, it is the subject at the center of every book in the Bible. I have a shelf full of Bibles, but my old Thompson Chain Reference KJV will likely always be the most worn. But I am more likely to grab the CSB, LSB, or NLT.
I have a Lockman new American standard Bible, a Cambridge nrsv with apocrypha, a New King James, LSB and a tiny King James which was a limited edition from 1950 I think. This is a difficult one, but I think my favourite translation is the new American standard Bible, but the NRSV is right up there with almost word for word. And lastly I would love to get a Schuylar and a Humble Lamb
I love the KJV the most, but I also enjoy other versions. KJV will always be my favorite. It's the Holy Spirit that teaches us what we need to know, and for some people, especially people new to reading a bible, I think those claiming KJV onlyism are doing a disservice by driving people away from reading the bible because those people struggle to understand its use of archaic words. Encourage people to read what they can understand easier, and the Holy Spirit will do His work in helping them understand HIS meaning. Isn't that what all Christians want... people to understand God's Word and live by it? Why would you discourage someone from learning more about God, or possibly even becoming saved by reading and finally understanding the Word?
This is a long comment as I’m copying a note I have been keeping on my phone for a while now. - Here are a few reasons why I personally end up avoiding modern Bibles and using the KJV as my primary (and why I end up recommending it over others). The copyright problem - I have a big problem with the idea of the rights to the Bible being owned by a company. The perpetual updates/revisions/translations problem - basically every year we either get a new translation, a revision, or an update of one of the major modern Bible translations. This is not free from negative consequences. The frankentext problem - the way the critical text is generated word by word, it creates a known problem where there are many places that even short sections of the CT are completely unique and match zero historical manuscripts. (Hard to explain, but once understood, this becomes a hard problem for me to overlook) The Sinaiticus and Vaticanus disagreement - basically all modern Bible translations consider these two manuscripts as “the oldest and best” and give them weight far above all other texts, including those that have been used by Christians for basically all of church history. If a modern Bible translation chooses a reading that is only supported by those manuscripts, they are directly saying that Christians possessed an incorrect Bible for centuries. That simply does not match with any idea of preservation I can agree with. Distrust of the modern education system - this one is a bit controversial and I hate to offend those who spend their lives working on Bible translations, but I personally have zero faith in the modern educational system.. including around theology. I have seen way too many BAD ideas come from those who are 'well educated.' Connected to tradition - It would bother me to use a Bible translation that wasn’t used by anyone more than a few years ago, and that won’t be in print by the time my children are adults. I do not consider myself KJVO, and everyone is free to take a path different from me but my personal dilemma is, the only Bible translation that can actually account for these points is the KJV. (The NKJV does get quite close and I use it regularly as a tool though.)
I liked the KJV earlier in my Christian life for a lot of the reasons that others do, it’s prose and romantic nature. Honestly, part of me felt I was more pious and reading a translation in common English. As I’ve read through it two or three times I’ve come to appreciate and desire versions that are “easier” to read and study from such as the LSB or ESV, without getting into the whole TR vs critical text debates. Between that and the “false friends” that caught me off guard in the text, ultimately has given me favor to faithful modern translations for devotional purposes.
I do enjoy reading from the KJV. And I have a few really nice copies in my collection. Although I really do enjoy reading from the ESV and CSB as well I am a proponent of reading as many translations as you can. And looking for the differences. I tend to find a lot of meaning where the translators choose, a different word or phrase.
I grew up KJVO, but I no longer hold that position. I agree that the KJV is an excellent translation, and shouldn't be rejected or spurned simply because some have taken it to the extreme. If you want a modern translation that is still based off the TR, check out the MEV that is my current favorite translation. It retains all the basic structure and flow of the KJV, but it uses modern words.
I love the KJV. I don't understand the whole KJVO thing, but I guess people need to feel like they belong to something. I've used the KJV my whole life, and I see no reason to change. I feel like one advantage of the newer versions is that they could be used to help someone who had difficulty understanding the KJV. In this way, they would be able to use the ample resources written for the KJV while the newer editions caught up.

There’s a world of difference between King James Only and King James Preferred. I’ve debated with the Onlyists for some 25 years and can’t think of a time when they were gracious or loving toward me because I disagreed with them. They had zero regard for the transformative and saving power of God in my life when I embraced Christ and was made alive by Him alone. That didn’t matter because it wasn’t followed by allegiance to the KJV alone as the perfect words of God. I’ve been verbally abused and called all sorts of derogatory things by them, and some have even questioned my salvation. I will admit that I’ve developed a disgust for them that has resulted in an avoidance of the KJV because I associate it with their cult-like, divisive, doubt fostering (ironically) behavior. They’re a festering cancer in the church and I encourage people to avoid them like the plague whenever they are mentioned.
